Winter with the BMW G87 M2 & GT4RS Allocation Dilemma

- In this video, I share my experiences about the unusually warm winter in Ottawa and driving my M2 during this season. Despite working from home, I take out the M2 occasionally and appreciate its sporty handling and the thrill of its rear-wheel-drive layout. I also bring up the decision of reinstalling the auto ID lip on my car, despite the risks in winter, just for the aesthetics. Compared to my Audi RS5, the M2 proves to be a more challenging yet rewarding drive. An interesting part of the video brings up a dilemma I'm facing: I have received an allocation for a GT4 RS but am unsure if I should swap it for my existing GT3 RS and am seeking your opinions. I've been thinking about fitting an exhaust for the M2, but I'm concerned about it being too loud for a daily use car, what do you all think? Ending the video, I express my gratitude for the support and engagement from you all, and encourage continued support. Don't forget to like and subscribe!

Love your GT3RS, but let’s do this allocation!!
😂😂 it’s not a 911 man. 😂 I love both cars equally. This is why it’s hard 😃
I believe the GT4 RS in a 5-10 year time frame will be the over all more desirable and more valuable vehicle. This is Porsche unleashing their mode engine platform. The cayman complex was broken just for that one car. It’s far more hardcore than a 3RS, I believe it’s a true dose of Porsche RS car. There will ever only be one GT4 RS generation. Opposed to multiple 3rs generations to choose from and compare.
You are not making it easy regarding my decision 😃😂
I agree with you. Short term prices normalizing for the Gt4RS. And over time it will be that unicorn car.
991.2 GT3RS in 5-10 years would be the 3RS with more beautiful lines and an era before the bonkers 3RS with DRS with all kinds of electronics suspension. It’s like how the 997 GT3RS last 3RS with a manual.
It’s a tough tough call. I wish I had a 💰 tree 😃😂
But you're forgetting the GT3RS is a 911 and the GT4 RS is not
Prabhul, I am a BMW dealer in California and have been enjoying your content for some time. You have a fun circle of likeminded friends which is always a plus. Love the set up on your M2. Cheers and do let me know if you happen to be visiting So Cal. Cheers. Sean
Great video and fantastic you have the opportunity. Had a 718 GT4 and it was straight-up the best car I owned. Had an experience day at Road America in a 911 GTS and have been pulled back into the 911 camp, delivery date determined and car arrives this summer. But I think given 911s are here to stay and available with an ICE. If my dealer called and said I could get a GT4RS at MSRP, I'd go down the rabbit hole. Get that GT4RS. Can always go back, not like the car won’t hold a significant amount of its value. Can't wait to see some of your epic videos in one.
Thank you for your comment and insights 😃
I am leaning towards keeping my 3RS at the moment. The spec I have, apart from it not being weissach, it is the perfect spec. Love the color too. Finding something like this now costs a lot more than I had paid for mine.
If the Gt4RS was a PTS option, that would have been a slam dunk. With the color options they have now for the 4RS it does not give me butterflies when looking at it in contrast it the 3RS
Great to hear from you again! Always good to see your beautiful M. As to the 4rs, don’t even think of swapping your gt3rs for it. That’s my humble opinion. Many reasons for that some you mentioned. The rest im sure you know 😊 🙏🏼
Thank you for the comment. I have passed on the Gt4RS 😃🙌
Awesome video as always ! To drive daily and enjoy = GT3RS, to speculate on value in couple years down the road = GT4RS. The GT4RS is an anomaly in the Porsche catalog. Up until the GT4RS, there was never a 911 engine in a Cayman, boxer or spyder. Then on this platform, they went crazy after the Cayman GT4 and went all in. This is not the usual Porsche. But again, it depends what the goal is. As for the exhaust, I would not for a daily. You already have the GT3RS for the music.
All valid points. I don’t daily the Gt3RS, I unfortunately do not have the time during the week. But these GT cars are meant to be weekend warriors and the occasional track day sessions 😃
@@thedevthing 100% with you on this. I did daily every week-end for 2+ years a 991.2 GT3Rs and this year will start doing so with a 992 GT3RS. Doing so with the 991.2 I never felt any discomfort, cabin noise was always decent and ride comfort was impeccable considering the car. The GT4RS is very hardcore but also so unique. The problem you have is not so bad, if you end up not liking it for any reasons, moving it is not gonna be a problem and you can always get another 991 GT3RS. BTW, I am from Montreal and the roads are ... horrible.
This is such a dilemma. In China, my father faced the same question a year ago. He had the GT4RS on order and sent to the dealer, however he switched the order to a 992 Turbo S at the end of the day. The 911 will always look timeless in my opinion, compared to the exterior look of the Cayman. I’d stick with your current GT3RS, it represents the most uncontroversial car in the car community to this day.
I change the exhaust on all my cars/motorcycles. It’s a must, mate! Whip is 🔥😎
💯 I have a system in the works for the M2. Hopefully finalize it in the next month or 2 😃🙌
For the M2 exhaust, I'm only doing AA EL mid pipe. It's all I need for awesome aggressive sound, not over the top, and quite when needed
100% thats what I was thinking of doing too. Just what folks have said with their G8X M3/M4. A mid-pipe would definitely be the way to go.
Agree
I simply can't compare a Cayman to a 911. The GT4RS is still and always will be a Cayman, which is a Boxster floorpan with a roof, it's a different car. Don't sell the 991.2 GT3 RS you'll regret it !
Please keep your GT3RS it’s amazing, the GT4 is nice but there are many around and everyone I know who has had them has sold them on after a short while. I think you would likely really miss your GT3RS
Logical upgrade would be GT2RS, I would say going to GT4RS is a step in the wrong direction
I don't think getting an exhaust on the M2 would be unbearable in any way like you mentioned. Especially since you can go from Sport to Comfort mode on the fly. It's a project car... Have fun with it 😁
Appreciate that 😃🙌🙏 I have something in the works. Working through details 😃
Glad to hear it. Your M2 build is by far my favorite I've seen. Do you think you will ever tune your M2 if the process becomes easier than what it is currently for these newer BMWs? @@thedevthing
I likely won't tune the car as its an instant red flag with BMW warranty now. Techs have to plug the car in and it auto detects a tune and voids the warranty. I guess those piggy back systems would bypass it.
Honestly for me, I don't feel like I need more power. I rather more engagement. So maybe mods that improve steering and handling.
I'm on the same boat as you. I have a 2023 M240i and I am holding off on a tune as of now. As of the piggybacks, I have seen forums/heard that dealers can determine previous boost readings and see that they were higher than stock. Even if it was removed prior to bringing the car in. I guess it really depends on the dealer and how deep they are willing to look, or if they will even care.@@thedevthing
Yeah unfortunately don’t think you should do it. GT3 RS will always be greater than the GT4 RS. Needs to be a +1 car and have both. “Champaign problems” though… 👍
you should get the GT4-RS in a insane spec. The GT4-RS is the better car imo i love the way it looks!
It’s too bad I can’t do PTS. If so it would have been a slam dunk. I would not think twice 😃
Definitely GT4-RS
I am leaning on keeping my GT3RS at the moment.
Stick with the GT3 RS and project the M2 and get the exhaust. The M2 is such a looker and it’s going to be an iconic M car down the road 👍
This is the direction I am leaning towards also.
M2CS is starting to pop up in spy pics. It’s going to be interesting also. Rumours are there won’t be a manual in the M2CS
@@thedevthing And apparently an AWD version coming in 2026 on top of the CS 👌
I'm In Ottawa too
🙌😃🙌
@@thedevthing the M2 is my dream car ...when ever you near the city hall I'm the parking attendant..I have a Scion FRS
Hi @Prabhul Dev, what is the porsche sales figure trend chart website called that it is shown in this video?
It’s www.classic.com/
@@thedevthing thank you!
If it was me, I’d barely drive the GT3RS because it’s so special. So I’d opt for a GTS manual that I can “daily” haha.
But just to live live and do things different, why not do a GT4RS? Have you owned a 718 yet, you might love the platform. And if you don’t, you can always move to something else!
Oh man. I was in the same boat last year. I was afraid to drive the Gt3RS as I didn’t want to risk anything and was debating on getting a GTS myself. But I got over that mind twist 😂
I have driven the 718 platform, but t was a lot of fun when I drove it during the Porsche experience days. It was just so much playful compared to the 911. The 911 felt big in comparison.
My worry is that if I get the Gt4RS and the market crashes I would have to sit on the 4RS for many many many years. So I ask myself if I was to be stuck with one GT car for the next 5 years which would it be? And I keep leaning to the 3RS
GT3RS, you’ll regret getting rid of it. Plus I hear that the gt4rs sound gets a bit much since it’s right next to your ear
Yeah it all the same stuff have been hearing too. Which makes me worried that I would want to get back into a 3RS
Keep your gtr3rs - I’ve been in the 4rs and it’s too loud and tiring on long road trips, with helmet and track different story - depends on your use case
💯 for me it’s a weekend warrior car. The occasional road trips, cars and coffee, coffee run etc.
What happened to the edelweiss wheels!? 🤷🏽
Those are my summer wheels 😃
GT4
🙌😃🙌
GT3 ALL DAY!!!!!
Hehehe. Thanks man 😃
There are so many gt3 RS générations but only ONE gt4 RS... I would get the Cayman, sell the M2 and buy a Manual 997 gts. With this two cars you'll have the 2 last hurra of Porsche.
This is a good idea 🤔😅
Name of wheels? Can't find them online
They changed the name of the company they are here

@@thedevthing Thank you!
Is it limited garage space preventing gt3+gt4 rs? or the huge amt of money. If garage space - easy answer. Send the M2 packing :)
It’s not the space limitation, it’s more about the $$
It would be amazing to have both, I would have done it 2 years ago. Not in todays market 😅🤔
@@thedevthing yeah, def huge money! I figured that might be the case :)
Hey bud! Well i think you need to ask yourself.. are you going back to lapping 8-10 times a year? Gt4rs is epic on a track we all know.. so is your gt3rs…just get a g80 😂
😂😂 I am not a hardcore track rat. I will 4 or 5 times a year maybe.
If I give up on the allocation, I am likely giving up on future GT allocations. That’s the only worry about passing on it now. My final destination would be a 992.2 GT3 manual
Might be more $$$ in your current gt3rs?! You have the right card to get a gt3 right away!!!
Im sorry but you are out of your mind if you give up a gt3rs for a gt4rs
😃😂😂 I know right 😂 someone needs to knock some sense into me 😂
