WORLDSCHOOLING / UNSCHOOLING / HOMESCHOOLING - Why we took our kids OUT of school!

- Worldschooling, Unschooling and Homeschooling- Here is WHY we took our kids out of school! We struggled with the daily grind while our kids were in school, I am not gonna lie! We realized school is a one size fits all and that didn't work out for our family. Our kids have different learning styles and to see your kid struggle is absolutley heartbreaking! I know all too well about that since that was pretty much the story of my life as a kid. If you are having a difficult time with your kiddos in school and can relate to our story please leave a message for us we would love to connect with you.
We initially thought of homeschooling until we heard about unschooling and worldschooling -that blew our minds! You truly get to know what your kids are interested in and explore that with them. Traveling is also an amazing way to learn from the world and experience firsthand opposed to learning from books. That is Skylar's favorite thing to say!
Here's the video we talked about- if you haven't seen if you MUST! We were honored to have met Prince Ea at Vidcon last year- he was amazing and chatted with us for a while-so fun!

Omg the meltdowns with the bottling up all day is happening with my 2 nd child. Thank u for a great video
Oh no! it is such a real thing isn't it! I think our children are giving us signs that we need to listen to. School is definitely not for all kids:)
I've been considering homeschooling for months now. Finally made the decision to do it. Been researching curriculums and it's all a bit overwhelming. I found this video and began to cry! I finally figured out what is meant for me and my kids! Unschooling!
Awwwwww OMG girl you are making me cry right now!!! So happy this video was helpful, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask away:) xoxo
When in til my daughter out of school I didnt know about unschooling , we both got so stressed trying to find a style to suit us, trying to find curriculums, worrying about her education. We are now radical unschoolers and very happy!
I love you guys. I love being a teacher and have been one for 18 years and the hardest part is when you can tell a child just is learning in their own way...not a wrong way. But the test scores say we must tell parents ABC. In my utopian world I would have had the opportunity to unschool. I am so glad my daughter and I got to meet you and I love what you and your family stand for.
Love this video! You said everything so well. I pulled my oldest out of school at 2nd grade. He has ADHD and teachers refused to give him more help instead avoided him because he was “too difficult to keep focused”. Besides getting constant grief from teachers he was bullied for being overly friendly by his peers. Everyday I’d pick him up and he would completely melt down. My oldest is now 12 and is so smart. He hyper focuses on the things he loves and loves to learn. My 4yr old is unschooled as well now and we have no intention of going back! I love seeing my kids so much happier!
Oh that breaks my heart to hear that and these stories are sooooo common it’s crazy. Good for you for taking charge of your kids education and protecting them. It is extremely harmful to go through the school system like that- i am so glad you stumbled upon this alternative style of learning my kids love it and so
do we:) thanks so much for sharing your story with us. xoxo
This sounds like the situation I was afraid of for my daughter. She doesn't have an ADHD diagnosis, but I feel like it may be a possibility. I used to take her to the library programs and it seemed like she was constantly being called out. She was so friendly with the other kids and some would avoid her because of that (which broke my heart.) For that and a few other reasons, I decided to homeschool her without a program and make my own curriculum. Not sure if that's considered unschooling, but she has learned so much, especially since I've learned to be flexible. Some days we do worksheets and writing practice and reading. Other days when I feel like her focus is off, we do hands on things like flashcards or educational games. I feel like had she went to public school, she would have been left behind. Thank you for reassuring me this was the right thing for her.
Omg I could cry. My 15 year is just starting homeschool - I wish I would have understood this sooner- but I’m so relieved and excited NOW. Thank you thank you thank you. Seriously. Deeply grateful. 😭🤯
so happy for you, yes if we were only born with a manual and all the different personalities and learning styles our kids need and have. luckily we can catch it while they were still children I know I went through my whole childhood feeling lost and not sure what my place was so I was able to spot it sooner with my daughter. congrats and good luck with everything:)
Been struggling with this for 13 years with my youngest daughter, I recognized it and tried to take some of the stress off of her by telling her I only expected her to do her best, not to be a straight A student, but the daily struggle to get her to even go to school was overwhelming. Watching this has me rethinking things, she has had amazing teachers that have noticed the way she thinks, but she was still stuck in a box. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, clearly there's a lot of parents out there that needed to hear this.
We LOVE being a homeschool family! Thank you for sharing your journey!
hey guys thank you so much for your comment. yes we do as well, You are very welcome thank you so much for watching
Ah you seem like such a lovely family! I am also unschooling my 3 kids. Our days consist of reading, watching documentaries, art projects, audio books and getting out in nature!! We love this lifestyle and freedom 💗💗💗💗
yes it is a super cool life and way of learning! Have an amazing journey!
I just found your video. I love your energy and your outlook on parenting and unschooling. I totally agree with you and have always felt this way. I wish my parents had known this and recognize my gifts and talents. My only child is 31 and I did not know this was a viable option when she was young. Thankfully she did not have any issues with school. I now have a 2 year old goddaughter and would love to be able to allow her to experience the world at her own choice and pace. My wife are just getting into wanting to RVing and travel. Watching your videos makes the passion burn that much greater. Thank you. ❤
I can relate to the school experiences so much, with myself and my children. No way of parenting or educating kids is easy but we really love unschooling and the many new perspectives it has given us. Thanks for this great video!
This sound sort of like university for kids. Freedom to learn what they want when they want. When I went to uni I thrived vs highschool/elementary - I did not well.
Yes exactly, You totally get it, I sucked in elementary and high school. I wish my mom did this with me when I was little.
@@tryNsomethingnew YOU didn't suck, THEY sucked.
I can relate to Sandi I was a restless spirit at school as well.
It’s amazing how much we clone in to the conformity of society. I wish I was more aware back in the day with my children. Even today non conformity gets frowned upon. I decided over a year ago to start a vlog channel at 51-52yrs old and people are like why🤷♂️ aren’t you too old. Just go for it guys because if our children are our future then your building a pretty bright one ☝️
yes isn’t that so true I know school was the final for me so I didn’t want to put my kids through that even though the summer season to have them in school then not. and good for you for starting a CZcams channel you are never too old and I hate that people think that way never listen to the judgments!
Children have a natural curiosity. Thanks for supporting that.
This video! I'm crying. My son is 8, in second grade, and by school standards "failing." I don't get it. He is so intelligent and bright. But in school he is the "bad" kid. I've been thinking of homeschooling but I just recently found out about unschooling. I am doing as much research as I can. Thank you for this so much!
awwww you are so welcome!!! don’t believe the nonsense school will tell you-i had sky tested for adhd because the teacher said she wasn’t paying attention-yea duh she was bored to death sitting in one spot the whole day. she loves freedom and nature-everything school is NOT! unschooling is an awesome way for kids to learn. Check out Sue the unschooling mom she is so comforting and reassuring!!!
How's it going? I'm rooting for you! I have a similar child and taking my kids out of school is one of the best decisions we've made as their parents. So much freedom!
I just found your channel this morning, specifically through this video, and all I can say is.... thank you, thank you, thank you for making this video!!!!! I have recently pulled my two from public school and decided to homeschool! Everything you said in this video confirmed exactly what I was thinking, and why I started this journey! This is such an amazing video, and I'm SO glad I found it!
Ahhh thank you so much!!! We have been getting so many comments about this video and how so many parents can relate and this is their story! This makes my heart so warm because i felt so alone and lost when the kids were in school. So happy this helps you! We need to not listen to the nonsense schools say-it’s just not true. My kid is amazing and is just not meant to sit at a desk all day to learn:) Good luck on your journey!!! xoxo
LOVE ❤️ this video! Our kids are in public school, but we relate to so much you said about following your gut, being ok with trying something new even if it ends up being the wrong thing, and letting our kids figure themselves out through exploration. So many great nuggets in here!
Aw thank you guys so much! It seriously makes us feel so good inside making this video, we get so many comments from parents saying they can relate so much. We knew we had to share our story because we knew in our hearts we were not alone. Thanks for your message we really appreciate it. Also if you have any questions please let me know! you can email me at sandi@trynsomethingnew.com
Thank you so much for this video. I am a mother of 6 children who ages range from newly turned 21 year old to newly turned 2 years old. As a teacher once myself who has tried and done homeschooling, public schooling, and even online schooling. All of these things still left me and my family stagnant. My kids uninterested sadden and depressed. Since I am an out of the box creature , well so are my children. They are there own individuals and they all have different needs and learning styles. One day I had an Epiphany , “UNSCHOOLING “ my children were all on board for this idea. Which leads me to how I found , liked and subscribed to your channel. This is the first time I have ever left a comment on anyone’s page. So I want to say thank you 🙏🏾 for giving me back the confidence in which I needed. I was battling myself with the decision that I was already doing with my children because I was still mentally trapped in how the world, my family or even friends view schooling. Sometimes all we need is a good support team and my children have always been my biggest cheerleaders. Once again thank you . So sorry for the long winded comment but it’s what I needed.
WOW WOW WOW thank you so much for such an awesome, honest comment! I feel you girl, that sounds so much like me. I was so frustrated as well as my kids with the whole school situation . My mind was blown when I heard that term unschooling lol I was like I don't know what it is but i love it! If you have any questions please feel free to email me sandi@trynsomethingnew.com GOOD LUCK on your new journey!!!
absolutely love this and really needed to hear this right now! thank you
Really great info. Everyone learns differently. The school systems are a closed box with no creativity. I so see this with the Covid thing going on. I could teach and reinvent these teachers that don't think outside of the box. I'm so fed up. I have twin 8yr old boys that are smart with ADHD. They will not sit still thru a zoom session. It is now up to me. I'm planning a camper van trip. I'm a educated person and also self taught. Teaching to read and math will help to devolop critical thinking techniques. Get out of the controlling gov't process. Only 100 years ago people took care of themselves and prospered. Take charge of your own life.
Yes I love that so true
Great video guys, thank you so much. I don't often comment but this was a must. So much reflecting what we have been through. Our kids were in the system (preschool) until lock downs. A year ago we were "forced" to homeschool and instantly loved it. We saw immediate change in kids behaviour, mood, connection with us and other adults and children. We have let them go back to school this year thinking it's only fair to give them the option. They lasted 3 days detesting every single one. We knew instantly. We won't be back soon. We are homeschoolers with online curriculum as this works for us. We cherish the freedom, flexibility, much less stress about silly things (drop offs, pick ups, lunch boxes, homework, communication with teachers, uniforms, etc etc). Kids excel. It took them one day to work out that 6 hours at the desk, with masks on even during sports and uncomfortable shoes is not a clever trade off for barefoot bech runs and flexibility to learn and follow what they actually interested and ready to learn. Cheerio guys, will be following you for more encouragement!
WOO HOOOOOOOo!!! love it! I just read your comment out loud to the whole family and we all had goosebumps! girl I totally get what you’re saying we were so bogged down and frustrated with the nonsense of just a simple task of our kids being in school that it was annoying as hell! The freedom that you get from taking your kids out of school is unbelievable! no more stressful mornings trying to get the kids ready for school figuring out what healthy lunches to give them the tears that come from China do homework every night with multiple kids, it’s endless... so happy for you and your family for listening to what works best for you all. Cheers you guys!!! xoxo
I unschool my 6 year old. I started with homeschool and I was getting so frustrated. My son hated workbooks and seat work. I found unschooling and we're so much happier. He loves building, engineering and science. We do a lot of these topics.
My family & I are planning to become full Time Rv life real soon. We are still trying to get our ducks in a row before we take off into this new adventure. I’ve been wondering how to go about home schooling and been stressed about it. My kids are in a similar situation with school right now and I was already considering home schooling before we took off. Already been thinking about taking my youngest who just started headstsrt this year out of school due to his increased health issues just from starting school. (He’s our unicorn) so stumbling upon this video made me cry. Hearing that you guys are doing this lifestyle with your kids and doing school of life made me realize even more that we are on the right path to do this. I couldn’t understand why I felt like this about their schooling, and hearing somebody else put it into perspective made me realize we’re not so alone on this type of thinking. Thank you for making these videos. They are inspiring ❤
Thank you for the honesty, sharing about your childhood, insecurities, uncertainties, parenting struggles....... Myself and hubby excelled at school, he is qualified in theology but currently has an IT company, I am qualified in BSC consumer science but currently a Montessori preschool teacher and music teacher. I have taught at a private school, and although the standard was excellent, many many students were deeply unhappy and not focussing on and developing their strengths, as you described with Skylar and Billy. I definitely do not want my 3 year old in mainstream schooling and have been researching world schooling for some time. She was born prem, has hydrocephalus and hypertonicity, is very imdependant and has many off days when she doesn't feel 100 percent. She also struggles in large social settings, sudden changes or new things. As parents we can already clearly see her strengths , she is excellent at music, art, dance, drama, communication and these aren't big subjects in most schools. I would love to do world schooling with her, or even just for a few weeks or months per year. My biggest concerns are safety, while travelling in unknown destinations and finances.
I’m 16 and went to public school all my life standardized tests ruined me and not fitting in did too i didn’t have many friends either obviously so we went into homeschooling and it’s not working I just feel so overwhelmed and I have anxiety which doesn’t help we are seriously thinking of unschooling and I’m so exited!
Thanks So Much!!😭❤️
Thank you for this video! We just started unschooling this year, & for the most part, we’re loving it! But I still struggle with the trust part, trusting that they’re going to learn “enough,” the right things, at the right time, be okay educationally when they get older, etc. Watching videos like this help me remember what this is about, what we were drawn to when we first started learning about this style of education. So thank you!
YES! girl we still feel that way but trust that they will be great. The other option is to have your kid sitting in a chair all day and in some cases not paying attention to anything being said or being absolutley miserable. School these days is way different from when we were in school, I think social media puts a whole different spin on life that is not fair to all of these kids. You are doing great- they are with the person they love and trust the most- their mom!
@@tryNsomethingnew Yes! Thanks for the encouragement! It’s so exciting to hear what they’re learning all on their own! Our 7 year old was reading so well just last night, much better than I’ve heard her read in a long time. It’s moments like these that make me feel okay. They don’t need to know everything, and they will learn how to learn whatever they need to learn. Love this so much! Thanks!
Aww love you guys. What beautiful parents. Love your inspirational video, thanks so much for the encouragement.
I LOVE this video. You have a new subscriber now. I love how you both are so passionate about your kids education. I think if more parents had the same passion public school would be very different today. But instead, so many parents perceive public school as free daycare. They really don't care about what they are learning. Not to even mention how many kids are bullied at school relentlessly and their parents still have them enrolled, unbelievable.
Thank you so much! Yep we totally agree, the things I hear and see going on in schools is unbelievable and so sad. Not even to mention how the learning style is just not the right fit for a lot of kids so they are left to struggle and feel inadequate. thanks for your comment:) xoxo
I see this video is a few years old but I have only just stumbled upon you guys. Just wanted to say your video totally resonated. So many resounding YES moments. My eldest was a similar story to your eldest and I hear the same story over and over again. He's a people pleaser, a sensitive soul and a deep deep thinker. He was a 'good' student and a bottler and exploder too. Your second child story is sooo common. So many beautiful unique creative souls who march to the beat of their own drum are labelled as difficult, behind or that there must be something wrong that must be diagnosed because they don't fit in a box or learn in a different way. It breaks my heart to think so many are having their sparkle dulled and made to feel that they are somehow less because they don't tick some ridiculous arbitrary boxes. Who chooses what knowledge is valuable or the mark of success?! Why is memorising our times tables deemed more important than figuring out how to build a bridge, growing vegetables or exploring music? is a child 'behind' if say they can't cook a meal or draw a plan of something they want to build by age 10? Of coarse not! These things are learnt over time as an interest or desire emerges, and skills built upon when they are ready and in a way that supports their learning in a meaningful and relevant way. Why is there a timeline on when a child should be reading at a particular level or they are labelled as behind? Reading is a pretty useful and important skill in life, and one I will support my children to have... but so is being able to cook a meal. I hope to support them to learn both. Maybe they will love reading for pleasure or a means to gain knowledge or maybe it will only ever be used to communicate or carry out a part of a job they love. Maybe they love cooking and being creative in the kitchen or maybe they spend as little time in the kitchen as possible, throwing together a meal to sustain them before getting back to writing their novel. It's the children who are allowed to follow passions, question, consider that there is more than one answer and explore things in creative ways that turn into future inventors, innovators, problem solvers and leaders of change; who add beauty to the world through music and art or just because they light the world up and help to show others a new way of seeing and living.
so inspired by you guys. I wish more parents took the time to school their kids
Bravo!! I've been home/unschooling combo for years. It's so amazing to see our kids discover themselves!
I totally agree! such a beautiful thing!
Thanks for this! Very helpful as we consider our options... Seriously. What kid wouldn't love to learn this way? So awesome 👍🏽
Right??? I wish I did this for my childhood! If they only knew how lucky they are.
So beautiful!!! We love you guys, you rock! Keep doing what you're doing!
we love you guys too and keep doing all the awesome things that you do as well!!!
I am so happy I found this channel, your idea of learning and schooling is a breath of fresh air . I was frustrated today and this just opened my eyes . Thankyou definitely subbed ☺️ 💓
Your family is an inspiration. My wife and I are planning to sell everything and journey across the country in the same way, although our children are grown and on their own
ADHD and Dyslexia in the late 80’s-early 2000’s had me labeled as Slow and Stupid. In college my English professor said “do you know you are adhd and dyslexic?” My reply was “yes!!!! I know im stupid, but im trying really hard.” She cried and I became an off grid farmer!! Now we farm and travel and unschool!! I have flourished and discovered my joy! Milking cows and rebuilding souls……. I geek out! We have 5 sizes that don’t fit in the box!!! ❤❤ they all love you guys, I know this is an old video, if we ever run into each other, I will be the crazy lady crying and hugging you guys!!
Love how you honor your kids' individuality 🥰
thank you so much. we are trying but you never feel like you are doing enough lol
All the FEELS! Ever bit of all of this! 🥰❤️ is why we do it too!
I’m so happy I found you. Your kiddos sound just like mine. My meadow is “late” with reading and everything. She wants to be outside or drawing. She definitely is a on her own time girl
Love this video 😍! I'm homeschooling but want to shift more to unschooling. And I totally relate to your childhood experience in school. I was labeled with a learning disability in 3rd grade. Didn't realize until I read the book Wild and Free that I was still carrying that label in my spirit as a 33 year old women! Well I felt like in that moment I shed the label and embraced the way I am made and was free☺️. Now I want that freedom for my sons. ❤️
hey Mallory, isnt that so crazy??? I totally did the same for years and years it pisses me off! I knew I couldn't do the same to my kids! If you have any questions shoot me an email sandi@trynsomethingnew.com
Really great video. Thanks so much for taking the time to make it.
Wow i have goosebumps listening to this video, i have tears in my eyes because the stories of ur kids is speaking to me so much right now
A so happy that you can relate to this, it is so crazy that our kids have to go through that:(
I loved this video!
You guys are awesome!
We’ve been unschooling for the last 3 years and it has been great!
Greetings from Livermore, CA
Hey guys! Thanks for sharing your amazing experience! My daughter is in the same situation, she changes completely her mood in the moment we cose the car’s door! 😢 I had never think about it! Now I fell braver to persuade new steps in our families life! I loved this video!
Wow thanks So much for your comment! isn't it so crazy how when you can understand your child's behavior you can really see what's going on? so happy we can help shed some light:)
Really enjoyed this so much!
so real and i am glad you made this video!!
Ok so I am late to y'alls videos and this one really hit home my son is 6 yrs old and he is just like ur daughter sky and ur words have really helped me thank u so much!!!
I happened onto unschooling a few years ago, and the other half's family hates my guts for doing it, but it's what I feel is best for my kids. We have to be the safe place for them and putting them in an institution that is increasingly unable to keep them safe, I can't imagine putting them in a brick-and-mortar school. Besides, like Dad said, they shouldn't have to fit into a box. Kudos to y'all for doing what works best for your babies❤
That is awesome guys. We are going on our 6 yr of homeschooling and loving it.
that is awesome!!
I agree with EVERY word of yours!!!
I love that you realized that for your youngest! My sister had a similar experience in kindergarten. Except my parents allowed them to medicate and try to force her(which didn't work) the thing with her was boredom. She went to an amazing Pre-K and was reading chapter books and that's what she wanted to do. She didn't want to sit down and color and do things she already knew. So instead of fostering her love learning they wanted force her to do they want. I knew I'd unschool while my 1st was barely a month old because of sister's and sos experience in school
Thank you so much for your comment, it's so nice to hear that you learned from your sister what a horrible experience it can be for a child that is not made for the school setting-if I wasn't the same way I might not have recognized it in Skylar. I love when I get comments like yours, it makes me so happy that we made these videos:) xoxo
I love every single bit of this! The best way to spark a love of history is to physically put them in the era. A trip to the USS Lexington sparked a love of world ward 2 in our son. After homeschooling for 15 years and it worked great for my girls. But our boy? We are full unschooling and it is the best!
love it Tiffany!!! it’s so awesome to be in control of your kids environment too, they have no walls up or any restrictions to be who they are.
What a great video! I remember when you were first figuring out what unschooling was and how it could work! I absolutely LOVE seeing how you totally embrace it - and want to help others do the same!!! Much love to you and your family!! 💞
Thanks so much Sue! It was great seeing you! I know right, its been a while and we still don't have it all figured out lol
@unschooling mom2mom heeeeeey, I just saw a video of yours that I'm about to watch next
@@Renewed85 How was it? Which one? :)
I am so sending this vid to my mom thank you so much!!!!
Thank you so much I really enjoyed your video.
Oh My God!!! I'm only by the 5th minute and it's exactly what happened with my kids!!!!! 😍😍😍
Thank you!!!
Aww you feel the pain huh isn't it so crazy how school is just horrible for some kids if not most kids? We are so happy we took them out when we did.
Thank you for this! I love hearing about everyone's different experiences. I have a 3 1/2 year old son and my dream is to homeschool/unschool. I am currently 34 years old in college to get my early childhood education degree (which is contradictory to what your discussing) but I have come a long way and I hated school my whole life and now I am truly enjoying it and getting all A's. It just shows that when we are interested in something we will apply ourselves to no end to learn more. Thank you so much for some enlightenment!
wow thanks so much! i know isn’t it crazy how if you want something you will naturally go after it no matter what. we know it’s the same for kids. so cool, good luck to you😍
@@tryNsomethingnew it really is! Thank you!
A lot of unschoolers do go to college!! The key is they usually want to and love learning because it wasn't "beat"out of them by stress. But they were able to learn things the like to learn about.
@@gabriellevalentino7319 yes I imagine they do because their interests were nurtured! I’m so happy to be learning about this!
Here in the uk a public school is a fee charging private school! I admire your ethic! Xx
What wonderful and loving Patents ! ❤❤

I love this!
Thank you Travis sorry for the late reply
Hi Guys! I LOVE IT when the traveling families I follow talk about their kid's education. There are NOT enough videos on worldschooling. I will be making one myself one day. I agreed with everything you guys said about education and the school system. The only thing I would add is that we have a great deal of privilege to be able to make the choice to take our kids out of school and educate them ourselves. Many would too, if they could, but don't have the resources to. Looking forward to more videos and meeting you in person at a worldschooling popup one day :)
hey there I know there are no videos of people talking about the schooling aspect. and I wish more people had the opportunity to take their kids out of school I think that’s why early on when I started having children and we saw our neighbors with no other option but to put their kids in daycare we need for us to have something different so we are aligned our life like that so we had the opportunity to stay home with them. Although working from home definitely has its challenges I will not lie LOL
Thank you for this video! I’ve been searching for an option for my son and I could honestly cry after watching this 😭 I’m so happy that I found something that fits his giant personally ❤️
OMG you gave me chills! Reading comments like yours it’s so heartwarming because I know exactly where you are right now. before I heard of this way of schooling your kids I felt so bad for my daughter. I was the same way in school and just had labels on me which didn’t help my confidence level.
School definitely dimmed my passion for learning and I didn’t want my son going through that. He’s due to start school next year and I knew if I didn’t find some alternative he would end up being labeled and held back for the way his mind works , brilliant but not the cookie cutter “good student” their looking for. I’m super grateful that their other parents like you who are so open and transparent, it’s helping us create a better future for our little ones ❤️
Your kids are very intelligent and a great explorer ... and They are so beautiful .Love from canada
This is amazing ❤
I don’t even have kids but I love this video, have always encouraged people to homeschool, school wasn’t my box either & I wish you were my parents! Simples… 😝
What a great video thank you for explaining the difference between homeschooling and unschooling it was an eye opener. 👁 I only wish I would have known about this 27 years ago. May God bless u and your family abundantly in name of Jesus amen 🙏
Love this idea. We sure will be going the same with our 4 kids.
If you have any questions please let us know we definitely don’t have all of the answers so far but do you have some experience now that we’ve been doing it for a bit
Amazing parents❤️
Love love love this. You guys just set me free💛
Awwww you just made me cry as I read your comment!!! if you ever want to talk about this send me an email sandi@trynsomethingnew.com
This gave me shivers and is remarkably helpful and reassuring. Thank you.
You're so welcome! sounds like you can relate huh glad we can share our story with you:)
Oh wow, what a cool idea to teach your kids! 👏👍😃😉 Unfortunately my sons are grew up 34 and 30 years old and would have loved to do it the way you do because they hated going to a normal school. Your children learn a lot, much more than you can ever learn in a school. Keep it up! 👍👏✌
Thanks so much! yes we are so happy that we found this alternate style of learning! the kids seem to enjoy it:)
This is nice, hope I'd be as cool parents as you are when I become one :)
you totally will all you have to do is do it:)
@@tryNsomethingnew will definitely do! 😍
Omg I lost my shit when you mentioned PRINCE EA!! IVE BEEN A HUGE FAN OF HIS FOR YEARS!! This video is a sign for me. Yup. Yes it is. YOU GUYS are about to change my kids lives. Thank youuuu!!!
Awwww girl you are gonna make me cry! and YES Prince Ea changed our world and then WE MET HIM!!! I almost died-and the best part, he was sooooo nice! If you have any questions please feel free to message me!
@@tryNsomethingnew Shall do! 💚😁
Whoooooooo?
This video is FIRE!!! 🔥🔥🔥 "EVERYTHING" you have mentioned, I have gone through as a parent as well. Thankful for like minded people like yourselves. You can te that you are truly connected to your kids. 👏👏👏❤️. P.S. yes, CZcams university 😂 I became a successful serial inventor because of it. You know when you're a lifetime learner when you listen to podcasts lol! God bless you and your family.
Thank you so much for your comment, isn't it crazy how many of us are out there but don't know each other yet?? I have gotten so many messages from this video, it's seriously crazy. I love that you have become a serial inventor what kind of stuff have you invented??
Great video! I would love to unschool my children. Unschooling is illegal in Greece so I can't. Glad you spread the word about unschooling.
I hope after all of this craziness what countries will be open to this style of learning it’s a beneficial for the children
I love you guys! Planning to head to Bali for 6 months so our daughters (15, 12) can breath a bit outside oppressive mainstream schooling!
I dont know why my comment keeps going away- so weird- I have responded numerous times. have an amazing time!
Oh my goodness. I just ran across you all video. I love y'all i think yall are amazing. And yall are doing a great job i think yall have amazing children. Yall seem like yall would be fun to hang out with. Yall have amazing parenting skills
Aww thank you so much Rena! You are too sweet:)
I've been homeschooling and it has been going okay. I've been looking into unschooling the last week and it seems like a better fit for us. I don't want my daughter to not like learning. I want her to love learning. I have to change some things... its scary, the change. Thank you for this video!
hey there I thank you so much for your message! yes it is pretty scary when you think you have your child education in your hands. but the one thing I know is that if you give them the freedom to learn and learn about what they’re interested in in addition to the basics it is really exciting for them. i know
my kids much rather this than sitting in a class room for years to come:)
@@tryNsomethingnew thank you!! I've been watching so many videos and reading so much, I'm learning I need to deschool first. So that is what we will be doing 🙂🙂
Thank you
Loooooove this!! Just pulled our son from public school and have been leaning towards this! I wish my parents would have known about it for me!!
hey Shelby, I hear ya, same for me when I was little. Congrats on taking your son out-let the fun begin!
This is amazing. Both of our kids have issues with school. My son has been asking to be homeschooled for years and Sedona gets into so much drama with other girls at school that it's making her miserable. I would love to do what you do but I wouldn't know where to start...💖💖💖😍
There are so many fb groups. There are COMMUNITIES of homeschool, Unschooling, wild schooling etc.
DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!
Hey did you go ahead and start? How is it going? I leave in Germany and under normal circumstances it is not allowed to homeschool. But now with the pandemic that has changed. How has it been working for you?
First figure out the local laws. In Florida we have an amazing free private umbrella school I plan to use. But our county homeschool isn't too bad either. You just have to keep a portfolio that could be pictures or assignments they did ect. I just know with my track record of losing things or forgetting certain things(psychological issue) the umbrella school is currently a better fit lol
just start!!!
This was so informative.. we are going through the meltdowns with our 5 year old now. I found you guys through world inspired community on FB! Hope to meet you on your travels!
oh yes we feel you on the meltdowns and we would love to meet you guys in the world someday!
You guys are great parents!
hey Caleb! That is so sweet of you! It's never easy lol
I went to public school back in the mid 60's. Back then, just like it is today, a public school education is a one-size-fits-all education. I had emotional problems when I was in public school. I was crying and carrying on in class, and yelling at the teachers. There was an average of 40 kids in a class in the public schools back in the 60's. Whereas in the Catholic schools back then, I believe there were about 60 kids in a class. In fact, when I was about to start first grade back in 1963, there was a really tough and wicked nun in the first grade there, and my mother didn't think that she (the nun) wouldn't be so understanding. Therefore, my mother sent me to public school instead. But I still had to this same Catholic school when I was in second, third, and fourth grade for Catechism classes. Only this time, these classes were taught by much nicer nuns. Even though I went to public school, my mother still wanted both me, my brothers, and my sister to have a Catholic education.
After fourth grade, my parents sent me to special education schools because the public school that I went to said that I needed a much smaller class. And believe me, it was for the best. On average, there were 10 kids in a class compared to 40 kids in the public schools. Gradually, I started to calm down, and I started to have more respect for the teachers.
Both the regular public school and the Catholic school teachers simply don't have the time to deal with special needs students. They are under a lot of pressure from school administrators to teach on schedule, to teach what both the schools and the states want them to teach, to tell their students to keep up with their studies, and focus on those infamous test scores.
This is exactly what I want/need to do with my kids. Over the past couple months of having my kids do school at home I have definitely seen the deficiency in my kids education. I have one that just kept being pushed ahead in school without understanding the material. The other 2 have always been way ahead of the other kids in their grade. But they were stuck doing the same thing as all the other kids. I started asking them what they wanted to learn about this week/day and just build everything else off of that. Now they say that they want keep homeschooling next year.
yes I think this whole coronavirus thing has really change the way people think about their kids and what kind of education they’re getting in school. I think tailoring some thing for each kid is way more beneficial in the long run and actually now too! Would love to hear from put what you’re doing
Bravo! cannot agree more, wish I would have been one of your kids, LOL
I love these two!
Thank you so much Doc!
Teachers make the difference and you are wonderful hands-on teachers 🤩 Love how you support your kids' individuality and learning styles 💖 and how you've modeled a curiosity-driven lifelong learning environment 🦄
thank you so much I really appreciate that. it’s not an easy road but it’s so worth it:)
I just discovered you around your decision to swap land with water. This video just popped up. Just common sense. You are fabulous individuals, parents and family. I removed my daughter from a brilliant school due to my health. We went on the road visiting family. I needed help. During that time my daughter was 'her'. Much easier for both of us. She ended up back in school ... and the system stepped in - all of it. For us - disturbing. Her father died when she was almost fourteen. My health was still poor. The education system was a negative impact and so so unsupportive. QLD, Australia. I like the Green School in Bali. Would do what you are doing if I had my time over again. Big hug xx 🤍
hey Bobbie, thanks so much for your message! Thank you for sharing your story with us. We feel the same way about the school system I'm sorry to hear that your daughter was affected. Thanks so much for such kind words, we are still learning as we are growing together. We wish you well with your health and your little girl. If you ever have any questions for us please reach out at sandi@trynsomethingnew.com
Yes the green school is aweosome!
I absolutely love your video!! I just took all 6 of my kids out of public school I have a freshman,8th,7th,5th,2nd and kindergarten and I'm so interested in unschooling but feel totally lost at the same time! we had a huge fall out at the school so it was an something that I did before doing a lot of research on any advice would be amazing Thank you so much :)
thank you so much Lindsay! OMG you have 6 kids??? Major props to you girl! I felt completely lost too so I did some research and got some relief from this woman called the Unschooling Mom Sue- she has a ton of great info and makes you feel good about your choice. It really is amazing and depending on your personality type- super organized- or not (like me) get your self situated so your life doesn't go haywire lol we still are trying to figure it all out but its so cool being with he kiddos all the time and knowing they aren't in situations that aren't healthy for them. xoxo much love to you and remember to breathe! :)
I admire your philosophy. 15 years ago I handed back my British citizenship and became a citizen of the world. I'm now following your videos and enjoy them. Please forgive my sometimes off-beat comments which have no ill intent, I assure you. ONE LOVE.
haha no worries! Thanks for watching and congrats on being a citizen of the world!
I love your video so much. There are a few basic proven educational principles people should look into. You need to teach and enforce you philosphy and mindset by the age of 9 yrs old or so. Just because a child has ADHD or defiant they can still learn. Adventure is some of the best stimulus for the mind creation. Reading and math is very important in order to comprehend and create clinical thinking.
Sandy your story is just like mine🥺
I love this so much guys couldn’t agree more ☺️
Yaaaa We are so happy we found this was way of life! It has been amazing! Did your kids ever go to school?
Yeah Bella was 8 years old and Taj was 10 when we pulled them out.
What scares me as well is that the Vegas school system is crap! I live here in Vegas and worried my son will get lost in the shuffle of all the kids! I’m glad I watched this!
girl that was our situation! our daughter would have been in a horrible situation if we didn’t take her out. if you have any questions please ask away
You love you kids. Planning on homeschooling my kids. More of an unschooling person myself, but like the idea of using a circulation as my foundation. I need discipline. I'm flexible enough to put something down when it's not going to vibe with my children. Of course, I want to make sure that they have lasting friendship and form relationships with others. That's my hang up right now and making sure our family is not too connected to tech.
hey Lisa! thanks so much for your comment:) yes we love the flexibility its awesome especially while traveling.
@@tryNsomethingnew Can I just mention book real quick? "How to teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons" It's been great for my 4 year old. Very compact and effective method. It covers a lot of ground in short lessons.
It focuses on the letter sounds exclusively. So we taught her those with a letter puzzle before beginning.(short vowel sounds first) but others could do it differently, I'm sure.
The focus on the letter sounds, avoids all of the "extra translating" that comes with thinking of the name first and then having to think of the sound.
When she sees the "sound symbol" it on the page, she's automatically thinking of the sound, already "reading" the symbols. It made for a much smoother transition.
It also handles thing like "th" "sh" "ch" by joining those letters together visually, and then has the child learn the "sound symbol" of the 2 letters combined. So smart! No explaining rules, just reading!
Its been a very, very effective and low stress. I'm doing it in it's entirety, but I adapt it subtly as we move through it to make it more dynamic. I mean, I'm her mom. I know what's up!:) G*d bless you!
Omg yaaasss prince ea is so amazing
Love this idea! How do you/ would you deal with the kids wanting to only be on electronic games at home instead of “learning”?
Oh my goodness! Your kiddos sound exactly like mine. I took mine out of school for the same exact reasons. We homeschool, but I'm ready to take the jump and whole unschool. My 2nd born girl is obsessed with creepy and slimy animals as well.
oh yes it is awesome and maybe it’s something with the 2nd born lol
ik you probably wont see this through all the comments but you guys are very blessed. i would love to know how to get started doing something like this. i am 18 years old and the world keeps telling me i have to go to a job i want to do youtube and i would love to live in a van and have my future kids learn from the world. my mom doesnt understand that youtube pays and i would love to maybe be on one of your videos or even just to chat with you would be a blessing. thank you! hope to speak with yall soon!
hey Nicole! thank you so much for your comment:) that is awesome you want to live in a van, what an adventure! i can see what your mom is saying, as a parent you want to make sure your kid can support themselves but it’s also amazing to do something that you love. Maybe you can intertwine the two for now. Or set a goal to do a trip and document it. We see lots of young people doing this and it’s an amazing adventure! Good luck to you! shoot em an email if you like sandi@trynsomethingnew.com
i love this video!
Thank you so much! can you relate to it?
