Another awesome video. Little Bear, those are called oak apple galls. These galls are formed on oak leaves by a small, stingless wasp, known as a Cynipid Wasp. When the female lays her egg on the oak tree leaf, she injects a growth regulator that causes the leaf tissue to form around the egg. The galls protect the developing wasps from the elements and predators. Hope that helps. Also, the gators are a great idea. Not only from things getting in your shoes, but also provides some protection from posion ivy and posion oak vines (3 leafs) that are low to the ground. It's really bad now here in the mountains. May God continue to keep and bless you both.
I wanted to know too ❤
Excellent comment dpresnell1!
Thanks for sharing the information.
THANK you for the explanation ( I am in Johannesburg South Africa), always learnimg🤗👊
Can these grow on Pecan trees? We have something growing on ours.
I open your adventures on my tablet so I can comment, but and watch at CZcams on TV. Your light and energy along with the beautiful scenery fill the room, and bring me joy. ❤ Gail in Franklin, NC
Thank you so much! We’re glad you’re a part of our journey. 🙏🏼💙
The green balls are oak gall. Made by tiny wasps. It has a tiny larva in side.
My highlight today was Little Bear’s giggles🤣
😮 Yard sales! LB's gonna love the gaiters. 9:38
Treat your feet. They treat the body. Make it so much easier.
Awesome 😎
I LIKE ALL THE POSTIVITY AND SUPPORT FROM THIS PAGE!!!! GREAT NIGHT'S REST. TRAIL JOURNEY, RAIN, WATERFALLS AND GOOD LAUGHS. 😊
Y’all are doing so amazingly awesome! Journey on! 🌻✌️❤️🦆donnie duck
Thank you! 🙏🏼 💙
That ball (gall) comes from oak trees, when they start to dry up and get brown, there is purple stuff inside. They used to make ink from it.
I can't tell you how much I enjoy watching you and little bears experience hiking The AT. Your videos are done in such a way that I am really enjoying your perspective! Also you seem to be such beautiful and genuine People which the world could use more of❤
I remember being that age and getting the giggles for no apparent reason. 😂
My daughter did, too. She used to get her whole girl scout troop going. They nicknamed her Giggles the Clown 😂
Giggle fits. Absolutely adorable. That’s when you know when your tired when everything is funny😂😂
That coupling you used to backflush can be also used to hang your cnoc and attach bottle and filter! It is fantastic! Just put a little cord on your cnoc tab and then you can hang it on a tree or at shelters!
I was hoping to see you at trail days but I realized after seeing these last few videos you were past there!
Yal are amazing keep it up!
Thanks for the tip! I didn’t realize that! 😊
The little green ball looks like a May Apple. Not from a tree but from the umbrella looking plants on the ground.
You have both given me inspiration to walk every single day. I have given myself a challenge to walk 10,000 steps every day for one month. I have achieved my goal for the last 6 days and I could not be happier! Keep up the great work!
I walk more too now. And even in the rain :-)
So happy to hear that! That’s great!! Don’t stop. One foot in front of the other. 🙏🏼💙
Another great day of hiking. Applause for Little Bear's pickup of dropped hiking stick in creek! Good problem solving skill. The trail life teaches so much.
That waterfall went on for a while. Very pretty, and loud. More rain again I see. Always nice to have a fresh pair of shoes. Little Bear got bit by the giggle bug I think.lol
Way to go ladies. 🎊
✌️🫶
I spy with my little eye the tyvek lunch mat!
💙💙💙 Still use it very often! Thank you!
The giggles are the best way to let out all of the stresses of the day. Hope you continue to have happy trails ahead. Thanks for taking us along. You've got this.
💙🙏🏼
Great to see both again. Enjoyed your video. Very impressed with Little Bears tracking pole recovery while crossing the stream! The ending was pure joy and love between you two! Catch you tomorrow morning!🐱🧸🐻🥾⛰️👍
If the blue thing fits on the cnoc it would probably be easier to backflush with that then the bottle, more squeezable
Word of advice. Sawyer filters do not recommend back flushing your filter with tap water. The lime and water treatment they put into tap water can ruin the filter.
Thank you. 🙏🏼
I suspect that every single step you both take is character building. You both are so gracious on trail. I can’t believe how much Damascus has changed since I stomped thru there in my younger days. The B&B was amazingly beautiful! Poles safely down Ladies! God bless and keep you and yours!!✌️🙂❤️🥾
Oak apple wasp gall. The wasp hijacks a leaf on an oak and forms that green gall.
Thanks for the explanation. I have always wondered what these were on my hikes as well. I liked Little Bear's description of it as "alien" - it does have a weirdness to it as if it is from a plant and yet not from a plant.
The best laughing is just like that when you can’t stop!! Fun one
Happy for your giggles, LB! "Laughter is good medicine!"
Laughter is the best medicine! Little Bear your giggles are contagious 🤣 What a beautiful day for you guys! Joyful hiking 💕💕🥾🏕️🌲🌳
💙🙏🏼💙
I'm seeing this video a week late and you're about a week behind in uploads but If you fill your water bottle all the way to the top before back flushing the filters it will work better and be a lot easier as water isn't compressible like air in the bottle is.
Thanks for the tip! 😊
What a great day you had! Nice breakfast too before back on trail 😊 I continue to pray for both of your safety and fun northbound! ❤❤🙏🙏
Thanks so much🙏🏼
Hello to you ladies. Enjoyed the video. Was so glad you were able to get off trail. Blessings to you both and your family back home. Journey On!
Such a wonderful zero day in Damascus. The Old Mill Inn looks like a fabulous place to stay with such awesome new innkeepers! So thankful you had good weather on your trek out today and found a nice place to camp. Love those giggles LB! 😆
I do enjoy watching your videos and seeing how Little Bear just keeps trucking along with her continuous smile on her face
Great video! Love it when you put the guitar music in...(I'm assuming it's your son playing it)...wonderful! Cheering you onward!
Thank you! Yes, my son sends us original pieces and it makes my heart so happy to hear it. 😊
@@wildflowersadventures you have such a talented family! Proud mama!
Loved the giggles from Little Bear at end of video!!
.... Suggestion ,, backflush a Sawyer water filter with sterile boiled water or filtered bottled water ,, DO NOT back flush with household tap water ,, especially small towns ..... too many minerals including calcium can clog filter element .... Do you both carry a water filter ?? .. or only one ..
Thanks.
We both carry a filter.
Excellent pole recovery LB!
Such a nice hike, and good miles. About those interesting balls y'all found on the ground, someone else may have suggested this, but you ought to put the Picture This app on your phones and use it to identify plants along the way. I have so much fun with mine, and even identified a garden plant in someone's CZcams video! As long as you don't need long-term storage for the plants you identify, you can use the free version. If it's ever wrong, it's usually because the plant is not mature enough to be identified correctly. Thanks for sharing the beautiful picture of Jadyn. Little Bear, it seems both you and Elle were being silly tonight; glad she decided to make an appearance. 😄 Continuing to pray for wisdom and safety as you head north.
Another beautiful hike!
Go Mama Bear & Little Bear Go!
👟🐻🐻👍🏼
I enjoyed watching the river as you walked today.
Love watching you both and following along with your journey!! Thank you for sharing!!
You guys are doing great! It’s cool to see some of the chores that need to be done when you’re in civilization.
I need to get one of those back flushing tools!
Love the giggles ❤😂 Giggles are always great ❤ Glad your day was a good one 😊
I love all the pretty wooden bridges over that glorious water! 😊
Is it toxic? Well let’s all pray it isn’t!!! Love seeing the enjoyment through her eyes. Prayers for safety and lots more giggles.
19:32 The cringe face! 😂 Your modesty is absolutely charming, bears. 😊
That was an Oak apple wasp gall.
I loved it when LB was giggling! That’s cool! You both are awesome!! I’m super enjoying the videos!!!!
... AAAUUG !!! Little Bear desecrated a "Space Creature" .. Limb from Limb ...lol ..
Pretty vlog today. It’s really cute watching Little Bear giggling like a ten year old. ❤️
Little Bear with the giggles 🤭. Mama Bear you probably already know this but you can save space and weight in your food bag by repacking the freeze dry meal into a quart freezer bag and cooking in that. Really does save space!
Yep, we do that most days. Thanks! 😊
Looks like a great day on trail. The climb out of Damascus is pretty narrow and steep but you both made it look easy
Almost 9k subscribers!!! 🎉❤ I love this for your channel!
Thank you! 😊
Giggle Bear, Ellie, Mama Bear ❤
When you get the giggles the best thing is to just let the laughter out! Great day MB and LB. 12.8 miles and you look so vibrant closing out. Love and hugs. ❤❤
Thanks for sharing the journey. Loved the old mill place. Looked like a nice place to stay. 👍🥾🐻
Beautiful water crossing today!! 😊 Congratulations Little Bear for fishing out that pole! You did great!! 👍 goodnight 💤😘 stay safe and keep on giggling LB. ❤️🏕️🥾🧗♀️😂 Hike On!
🚶♀️🐻👟👟🚶♀️🐻😺👟👟⛺🌞 I have found them same balls in my yard and found out their stink less wasp Little Bear did an amazing job getting that trekking pole didn't even have to bend over I love hearing the sound of the rivers love and light to you both stay safe and happy hiking and goodnight Ellie 🐈😺
The green balls are called oak Galls they come from oak trees
🎉Start your day with a classic PUD coming out of Damascus, but later Blessed along the creek. Nice filmmaking 💞
Love those giggles, they are the best! Safe travels you adventurous bears. 😂🐻🐻💞
Great video today. Nice to see LB with the giggles. So sweet. And she almost gave them to you. I loved it. Would have loved walking next to a rushing river. Hope you enjoyed it for me. Good to see Ellie. She was trying to hide under the quilt and had to be dragged out. LB, how many times have you had to remove Ellie from places she was hiding. Plenty, I'm sure, especially as a kitten. Ya'll take care of each other. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.
Great Job!
Osage orange. Little bear there is an app called Seek. and if you take a picture through that app it will identify the type of plant.
🙂
Osage orange is only a guess.
Absolutely beautiful section of trail
Awesome day to leave town, some great things to see. Have an awesome monday.🌲👍
You can use that blue tool when filtering water too it holds bottles to the filter. Great job! Keep on truckin!
Wife and I have that adapter and use it in just that way!
You are keeping up a good pace. Well done both. My bit of
Scotland is warm today and we also had a short rain shower. Everything is green and smelling fresh.
Great day and so enjoy the videos. Get some rest and be safe!!
Nice trail alongside the river. Good day hiking.
Good video with lots of good views, so let's keep on hiking 😊 on a bad rainy day 😢
❤️❤️🐈
.. Wow ,, I enjoy wandering through yard and garage sales ,, don't need or buy much ,, but you never know what pops up .. Would be hard to just put blinders on and walk by ...
Little Bear, you're looking at an Oak Ball. They are part of the Black Oak or Red Oak tree that is not a part of the acorn. Some trees have more than others.
Beautiful hike!!! 😊great video! Keep on hiking
Another great video thanks for sharing
👍👍❤️❤️
Maypop - or passion flower. They are a type of passionfruit native to SE (including FL). The fruit is edible. I remember them around my grandparents place outside Atl. when I was young, but haven't seen them in forever.
May pops grow low on plants on the ground. Wasp galls would be up in trees in the leaves (don't eat wasps)
There is a better way to filter your water. It's the titanium geopress by grayl it filters and purifies and is built into the water bottle and takes only 8 seconds to purify your water from any water source. And the titanium outside cover can be used to your burner to heat up your water and it comes with an attachment that you can lower the bottle say from a bridge or at someplace where water is below you. Filters out all known unhealthy things that are in the water. It's a water bun bottle that can also be used as canister to heat up your food. The actual bottle fits inside ou ta 24 oz. Check it out on line. It cost around 100 dollars but clean water is a necessity. Do do have the plastic version thats a lighter weight.
1½ pounds. NO THANKS
And doesn’t freeze & crack.
Only 4oz more then a 20 oz
Yea….thats heavy. Sawyer squeeze is still the staple of the AT. Filters to about 0.1 microns. Not virus proof…but bacteria and giardia get stopped. PS … there are about 5 percent of hikers that don’t filter at all. Straight drinking from the water source…even streams and small rivers. I didn’t do that…but was fascinated by those that did…
Wow, yeah, no thank you. The Sawyer works well.
❤and🔦
OMG.. are you cat people too? 💞
Good choice on gaiters little bear! I happen to have the same color. Nice vid! As i …and many other hikers watching your channel have said…there are many opportunities in va and south pa to log bigger miles than you plan. Stay happy and positive and enjoy your hike. Don’t worry or work too hard on vlogging please…this is your hike…and vlogging…as you know…is just a side issue and not really that important. Just keep us updated at your convenience. Anyway…enjoying it all. Sailor Jack
Thanks. I think we have a great balance.
Our vlog is super important to us. It’s a lot of work, but a true labor of love.
The whole point is to have memories for both Little Bear and I to look back on for years to come. Imagine us watching with her children one day….she can say, “look what me and your grandmama did when I was 11.” Plus, the videos help to include our family in our experience as well, and that very important to us. 💙🙏🏼
✌️❤️
way cool
❤️❤️❤️❤️
💙💙💙
😄
Do the gators attach to your shoes? Are they so that little twigs and stones don’t go in your shoes?
Yup…and i have the same color as little bear. She has good taste….haha!
Love your videos and following along on your journey! 😊
You 2 are doing so great! Such a joy to follow. Can I ask what phone you have. Your photos are amazing!
Thank you! I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Did you walk thru a poppy field? That might explain the sleepies. And the giggle s 😹 #wizardofozreference
They're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Katahdin!🎼
What kind of gaiters is little bear wearing? They look extra tall and protective.
Dirty Girl Gaiters
Can you share how your new sleeping pads are working out? Thanks!
Nemo Tensor Insulated…they are great!
Thank You! I live in St Augustine, FL but spend my high school years in Rockledge, FL. Fun watching two FL Bears on the AT!
Looks like a may pop we used to call them.when the are green they are enabled but probably wanna cook em. We used to pop them when we were little. Grab them off and step on them. Made a delightful pop.
Y’all are an exceptional team. You wake smiling, and end the day smiling. Y’all seem to easily meet and exceed the challenges of each day. LB. I would have not thought of reaching for my hiking pole as you did when you dropped it in the stream. Y’all are doing great. Sorry. Had to brag on y’all a bit.
Thank you so much! 💙🙏🏼
It's an Osage Hedge Apple.
Curious, how are you holding the camera, it is so steady. What kind of phone are you using?
Just holding it with my hand. It’s an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
We live in Va Beach, would love to meet you and do a trail magic if that works for you. Let us know what you think and would need.
Thank you! 🙏🏼
DO YOU SET AN ALARM FOR THE MORNING
Yes
Don't take anyone's word on here telling you something is edible. It's very hard to tell from a video, but those look more like wasp galls.
Thanks. I would never risk eating things out here from social media advice. One of my favorite books is, “Into the Wild.” 😊
You fell prey to the "purest" nonsense about the Creeper Trail. It is a wonderful trail that takes you to the exact same place.
Nah, we didn’t fall prey to anything. We’re not that easily influenced. It’s important to LB that we hit the white blazes, and i respect that. 😊
Just curious on average how many mikes you hike a day? 🥾🏕️⛰️🐻🐾
It depends, but I think we’re around 13-14.
