  • Today I'll be making a simple little 8 noted pan flute from some scrap bamboo. I didn't tune each piece to a specific note because I was curious what sounds I could get out of it just by freestyling it. This was a relatively easy build, just make sure the bottoms are completely plugged up.

Are there other ways to secure the pipes together, like a thin strip of wood? I need something to teach to a large homeschool group, something like this wood be great, but I'd need to simplify it just a bit. But this project would be nice! Thanks for sharing this craft. This is really neat!! I think I'll try to make one for myself.

Cool video! If you want to play them more than look at them though, I recommend tuning each column with a tuning app on your phone or something similar before assembling

Do the plugs completely cover the hole?

Yes, imagine blowing over the top of a soda bottle to make a sound. Same concept, so they need to be air tight on the bottoms.

Could you not cut one end on the other side of the knot and the bottom would be sealed, just a bit of sanding .

Can we use other wood to cover the hole other than wooden clogs

      That's what I'm wondering. I'm thinking corks.

What happens if my flute doesn’t make any sounds I just hear the air going in and out

je les règle avec un appareil, a l'aide d'un bouchon normal si pas de bouchon a une extrémité le vent passe de l'autre côté. Puis il faut savoir soufflé également.

I actually have cut bamboo reeds (just came on here to figure out how to assemble it). First thing I left the divider sections intact so I didn't have to put plugs in.
2nd I discovered some cuts had a very slight angle. Rotating the angle while blowing helped me find the sweet spots.

Do u sell the stuff u make? Where can I make a purchase & do u do custom design instruments? I’m currently learning both pan flute & lyre.
Also would like a video on how to paint a lyre. As I have one & would love to paint it.
