  • In my new lure making tutorial I'm showing alternative method of making needle fish stickbait using balsa wood. The easiest way would be to use the lathe, but if you don't have one check the video for detailed step by step 😉

    Very nice lure,very nice craft,in the middle of video when you put tungsten 0,6 weight in the middle of lure,I have a trick,that you can try,when you put super glue over to cover the tungsten and hole,on that super glue while is wet,put some baking soda,it will harden fast the superglue,than you dont need to cover it again with 2 part kit,only sand this hard mix super glue and baking soda,and you are good,I have tried it on different types of wood,it works very well,but for balsa I am not sure because it is soft type of wood,did not try it,you can try( because balsa is not hard type of wood,it is soft and this mix will be hard and when you sand it with grit paper ,I am not sure how will balsa respond). Also when fishing with this type of surface floating lure,the best tactic for predators is to make small pauses(3,4,5 seconds)while you reel lure towards shore( give it a try and you will be suprised),lots of times fish like amberjack will hit or miss the lure during this pause, several times before it actualy bites it,the amount time of pausing reeling lure is not always the same ,it depends on wind,sea currents etc.

      @SuchaJerkCustomLures  Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks for the tips 🎣 I will try to incorporate some pauses 👍 so far I caught one blue fin trevally on it in Seychelles and some Asp in freshwater 😉 when it comes to SG + BS ita not suitable for balsa, exactly for the reason you've mentioned, the wood getting sanded faster then the covered patch 😉 so for balsa lures putty is my go to, for hard wood lures and big salt water lures I ise SG + BS to cover and secure the through wire 😉

      And another tip for needlefish lure,if you want to make slow sinking version of this lure,the wood for this purpose is called in our country Croatia Bukva( latin name:Fagus sylvatica),it is much harder then balsa,and it can be beautifuly carved and sanded,and for this type of lure, I use harder stronger treble hooks then normal ,it has marks 2x,3x or even 4x, because the amberjack can easy open the one side of treble hook and then you lose it

      @@EmersonIvankovic yeah, I know this wood, hard motherfucker 😅 I use few time to make carved pike jerk bait 😉 unfortunately I do not leave on the sea, so I have ocasion to fish for salt water species only once, or twice per year during holidays 🫣

    Can pine wood or cedar be used ??

    • @SuchaJerkCustomLures
      @SuchaJerkCustomLures  Před rokem +1

      I guess so, they're both fairly buoyant woods, I never tried cedar, but when it comes to pine, I really don't like the hard sap rings, that made carving and sanding difficult. So if you don't want to use balsa, probably good alternative would be bass/linden wood

      I don't know specific fish names for all the tropical fish, the lure type is needle fish, also most likely I googled needle fish, if they suggested ballyhoo photo instead, so be it 😉 the lure works nice, ai caught blue fin Trevally on it in Seychelles ☺️
