I think the cancellation came about because this mod suffered the same root problems that 3.0 suffered with, I looked at Exeternal on Funkipedia and the amount of content they had planned even eclipses that of 3.0, it was far too ambitious and to be honest I think maybe 60% of the scrapped content wouldn't have been very interesting to most people, there's tons of videos explaining why 3.0 failed so there's probably no need for me to repeat what has already been said. If a mod is going to be this big project with a team working on it then the mod team needs to show some restraint and control, TGT V4 is an example of a perfect mod team, the presentation of the mod just tells me that this mod has been developed under an extremely controlled environment with a fully motivated team of people, when it comes to mod teams in FNF I have never seen anything like it before it's just amazing. TGT V4 noticeably lacks for remixes and *unnecessary* side content, maybe 20& of TGT V4 is side content with everything else being what everyone actually wants to see, Sonic.EXE 3.0 was something like 90% side content with 10% of the stuff most of us go to the mod for, when you have so much side content most of it is just going to be forgotten, from 3.0 the only side content I remember is the stuff with Starved Eggman, everything else is quite forgettable to me, even if it's good it's better to have less content but all of it blows you away instead of having more content with most of it only being good.
I dunno what to say... EXEternal was basically everything the team wanted to achieve, it just goes to show you what you can do to something as good as this.
Man, I can't stand to see so many restorations being cancelled... I'm going to take everything the internet has done and put it all in one mod >:( so get ready for a 4gb mod! (I think)
2:432:55 I kinda like the New Classic Sonic.exe and New Classic Fleetway here cuz he have a golden buckle on his shoes, like a little bit of "Modern". Unfortunately it was rated as "unused" sprites because the sprites must be like old Classic Sonic, because in the old games like Sonic 1,2 and 3&K, his golden buckles wasn't on his shoes. That's what they trying to do on VS Sonic.EXE mod, make him classic and like old games.

I honestly dislike that Fleetway looks more like Classic Sonic. Not that it’s bad, but I think it would be better to make it more accurate to the Fleetway comics with his proportions.
@@SomedudecalledLiam Like have you somehow not played Sonic R, Characters aren't meant to be blocky. @Apoenzyme asked a good question, because Sonic R avatars are not meant to be blocky, they are supposed to have a low poly circular head but ofc I wouldn't expect an FNF fan that prob thinks Sonic is from FNF know this 💀
