The correct translation is 'Woman from the end of the world'. In the end, she is saying 'let me sing 'till the end', which she actually did. This song is so beautiful cause it can translate some of the tragic aspect of carnaval. It is a beautiful, colorful aspect of our culture, but also cariies this duality of happines and sadness, begginings and endings, life and dead, which she can put brilliantly here. Rest in power and peace, Elza.
The end is desperate for sure, but the meaning is "let me sing till the end". It also serve as a personal message because this video marked her first videoclip and her presenting herself to a new generation of listeners in Brazil.
I was Elza's big fan. I've seen her performing countless. Don't feel sorry for her. I've never, ever heard her complaning of anything. No mater what, she would never complain or show any ressentment thorts anyone or anything ... she was the kind that could easily laugh about herself. Elza, a trully "malandra", trully carioca. No resentment, no complaints, whatsoever.
This alcoholic husband was just Garrincha, one of the greatest players in the world, some say even bigger than Pelé.
Frank, thank you for your sensitivity and respect. Elza is also a feminist symbol of the fight against racism. It was comforting to watch this video.

It wasn't the Voice only, but the energy. Like a force of the Nature. And we can feel ALL that suffering in her performances but in a positive way. Great artists never die while there's somebody singing or listening to their songs. Because death is to be forgotten.
She lived in Rome for a few years, with her husband Garrincha. She even recorded a few songs in Italian (avaliable on Spotify)

She's an icon. Elza's history is Brazil's history - the kind of history the books rarely approach -, in every sense possible. She was a fearless artist and a fearless warrior with a fearless heart. Her legacy will live on forever.
