I watched pretty much all your hair loss videos in one night. next morning anxiety was gone, depression was gone and feeling optimistic about continued use. ive been losing my hair since 16 im now 27 . I can tell you its extremely easy to fall into depression when youre losing hair at a young age. Finasteride or not.. i took prozac in the early days but nothing can substitute the damage of losing your hair sometimes its finasteride.. rightfully so it can take 2 years to get full results from it. Hair recovery is a very long painful process. Not saying some people dont get extreme side effects but i can firmly say hairloss is often the root cause for depression more often than not.

I’ve never been a “comment-er” on CZcams vids but I feel strongly enough about this subject I feel I should share my experience for all the men out there on the fence about this drug. 2 years ago I took the leap and got on fin. After months of research of course. I went into it like any long term plan or goal. I took baby steps and monitored how I felt and looked weekly. I started off using the smallest dose possible. 0.25 once a week! I made a decision to not increase it after a few months because I felt I was seeing a difference with very little side effects. In fact, I think any “side effects” I may have felt could have been literally caused by anything including placebo. My advice for anyone either on the drug or thinking about taking the drug would be to first define what your goal is and secondly develop a plan and stick to it. It’s all about consistency over the long term. Don’t let fear make decisions for you.

      @subie1019 Před 4 lety +6

Garret Watson most of the side effects(not all) such as depression, anxiety, Low lobido and erectile dysfunction are actually linked to psychological issues. I’m not saying that Finasteride doesn’t cause all these problems but the fact that all these problems can be traced to psychology means that Finasteride aren’t necessary the root of these problems. All I can say is talk to your doctor or a few Doctors, ask them about their patients who are taking Finasteride and the % of them having side effects/ Long term use etc. It would give you a peace of mind although side effects do happen only a small percentage will be affected, it is up to you whether you want to take the small risk for a large benefit and stay away from the internet, the internet is anecdotal!!!

I just started derma-needling and minoxidil. I really feel that if I lost more hair and went bald, it would absolutely destroy me mentally forever. It just makes sense to take it because honestly being destroyed mentally from going bald is in my opinion just as bad as the side effects of finasteride. Think about it...you have a higher risk of going bald and being destroyed mentally, lose confidence, lose your identity and sexual appeal etc. Vs. the minimal 1% side effects of finasteride. First of all, I love that in a lot of your videos you have some kind of The Witcher merchandise showing, haha. I'm a huge fan myself. Now to the point. This is how I see the cost benefit of Finasteride side effect. For some time I considered taking Fin, but then I thought to myself that my receding hairline wasn't that bad, and that the fin sides (as well as pfs which I've read on these UNSCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN forums) outweighed the benefits. Now that my receding hairline has also begun to become thin, I finally took the step to contact my doctor, and ask about a prescription, and this is why: If I don't take fin, I know I will become more and more bald, and thereby become depressed, have a lower libido etc. However, if I take fin I know I will have around 2-3% chance of suffering from the same. So what my point is, is that ofc I will suffer from depression if I become bald by the age of 26 and single. But I would only have a 2% chance by taking Fin to become depressed.

This evening (about an hour after watching your video), I had an appointment with my doctor about a sports injury. He noted that I have been taking Finasteride for 1.5 years and "strongly discourage[d]" me from continuing with it despite me not having experienced any significant or adverse sides. He explained that it's because there exists so little data on the long term effects. He said that have few apprehensions around prescribing it to older patients (the long term effects, whatever they may be, never being relevant because the patient only has a couple decades left to live) but that no one knows what the effects of the drug will be on someone who has been taking it since their mid 20s when they reach 50+. Admittedly, it did give me pause for thought. I wonder if you have any comment.

22 yo, been on finasteride for a month. My hair feels thicker, before I was getting to a point where my hair was feeling thin, and it didn’t look good at times and looked light and dull for what it usually looked like. Idk if it’s in my head, but I swear I have some baby hairs I can feel around my hair line or where it should start. As for side effects, I have not lost sex drive, if anything it may have increased but probably still the same, same for erections. I sometimes feel tingling in the testicles but that’s been it so far. My dosage is 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday). My shedding may have also increased a bit but per my research that’s normal as the medication is working.

Hopefully I don’t jinx myself but i have been taking fin for almost almost 2 months to the day, and my shedding has significantly reduced over the last couple of days. I started taking fin everyday a week ago. My hair feels very good as well. Hopefully I get more regrowth but if I don’t and my shedding continues to stop it’s still a win. Don’t be afraid to start guys, thanks Kevin for helping me be more sure of starting.

Officially my 3 month mark. I have been taking fin daily for just over a month from the 3x a week I started on, and as for sides they are the same as in my previous posts in the thread (luckily none). Earlier in May I took a supplement for 2 days and it had a lot of caffeine. My shedding really ramped up temporarily but I didn’t take it again. Some days I find I have less shedding than others but today I feel my hair looks and feels the best it has since I’ve started with fin. The baby hairs I was talking about in my first post at my original hair line have definetley grown more and I can feel other hairs on my scalp coming in longer as well near the crown. Hopefully my shedding continues to reduce but it’s obvious the shedding I have had hasn’t all been bad shedding as my hair has definetley regrown what I was shedding and it came back stronger. Only month 3 today so I’m hoping to have more success and hopefully next month I can say shedding has decreased more. Again I started early (vertex 3, 22 yo), but I wish I started last year. Don’t be scared.

He’s right though. There is no evidence to support that Finasteride gives you permanent side effects. That’s why they have clinical trials. There is always a pattern with medication. That’s how they can determine the percentage rate of how likely you are to get side effects, through tests and studying patterns. Medications don’t just randomly give you something new on its own. Remember no one claimed ‘post Finasteride syndrome’ until 20 years after it had been around! Medication aren’t some cursed thing like pennywise the clown from IT who only strikes ever 36 years. Clearly this ‘post Finasteride syndrome’ is related to the INDIVIDUAL. Clearly there is some underlying problem with that individual that has caused PFS, whether that be mentally or physically. Absolutely no evidence whatsoever to support that the drug Finasteride can independently cause long term side effects, absolutely none.

I had been using it for 7 months and then stopped to take it since i was dealing with some depression problem that i linked to finasteride. It had none effect on my erection whatsoever, just a slight, like quite small, libido decreasing moments i felt was probably just normal as everyone experiences time to time. Therefore, i had testicle pain for 2 week or so but ceased after. In addition to that, important to say that i have read side effects beforehand, even though i thought a lot about it, didn't have any prominent sides. When i used it, the outcomes were so nice; hairs came back alive, weren't faded but shiny and regrowth some at front side. Thinking now, i was working so much in those days, and depression was probably because of that. I still have feeling of depressed sometimes, and i think it's because of my disposition. So all in all, it is not a poisonus stuff to try as others hugely exaggerationg, side effects were so mild on my behalf.

Hey Kevin. I personally have gone through post-finasteride syndrome and it is truly a terrible experience. I many side effects, including depression, insomnia, and suicidal thoughts. Not trying to scare anyone though, just being honest. There is a website/forum for all men who have gone through this called propeciahelp.com, which is a great resource for reading about first hand experiences from men who have gone through this.
On the other hand, my brother takes finasteride and I believe he's been taking it for over a year now. To my knowledge, he has had no side effects and I think its helped him. So I am aware that many people can use finasteride and it will improve their life. People who had bad side effects like myself are just a small percentage.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone, but I gotta say Kevin, your demeanor comes off as pretty harsh towards people who have gone through post-finasteride syndrome. It is something that exists and people should be aware of ALL possible side effects when they're taking a drug like this. It is not a matter of scaring or fear-mongering, but educating others on what can happen if you take finasteride. Like I said though, people like me are part of a small minority, and most people should have no trouble taking it.

indecisiveness is by far the worst thing u can do.
    here are the scenarios:
worrying about how your thinning hair looks and spending hours thinking about it and wsaste unknown $$ and being very insecure .. and see ur hair progressively get even worst and think 'what if' when it's too late
or just pop the pill forget about it, let it run its course. if u get the side effects, then stop it or alter dosage.
indecisiveness and insecurity and regret are already a demasculine traits to have. that's probably going to lower ur androgens regardless lol

I've also seen studies identifying decreased neurogenesis. Continued useo of lowered neurosteroids isn't something you would necessarily 'feel', but it may worsen cognitive function over time, theoretically. I am at a higher risk for Alzheimer's due to the E4 gene so this scares me significantly. How are people not worried about this? Would love some incite on this. Hi Kevin. Still loving the vids. Could you possibly do a video specific on finesteride shedding, as I feel this is a very controversial topic among your viewers. I have seen from studies, though minimal, that it can speed up anagen to telogen phases. Thus, converting around 30% of hairs at any given time, rather than 10%, being the average, thus dramatic shedding. I would like a little more knowledge on it. I believe this to be the cause of my shedding. I will shed for a few weeks then it will look great a month later etc and just keeps repeating in a cycle. I’m now just approaching the month 5 mark. I will add that gradually I am seeing results. One side of my hairline has dropped down significant...just waiting further other side lol. So it’s definitely working, just going through ups and downs along the way by the look of it.

Just took 0.25mg today. I felt all day like someone kicked me in the balls really hard. Penis shrunk down a lot and I probably couldn't get hard to save my own life. I'm never going to take it again and can only hope to make a recovery. My advice is this: don't fuck with 5ARI's. There's no telling how your body will react. If you're used to high DHT even the smallest dose is enough to shock your system. The 1% chance of sides thing is absolute bullshit. For reference I'm an otherwise healthy 25 year old male, fit, high libido, NW2 progressing to NW3. Took the smallest dose possible over 12 hours ago and 30 minutes in I started feeling numb all over..but that was about the only neurological side which went away fast. However my nuts and my d shrunk down and kind of retracted in and i'm left with this constant ache like someone kicked in it or something. All I can do is wait it out and hope for a recovery. Now I see things differently..no amount of hair is worth it for this. I wish I would've never taken it.

@@haircafekevin I think that most people that are not on exogenous test will suffer long term from fin use especially at high dosages like 1mg and up because there's simply not enough androgens to support sexual function. Although in studies they say that only a minority of men suffered *any* side effects I've heard more often than not from men the same tell: they had a slight ball ache, reduction of libido and loss of morning wood as soon as they took the first dose - and that can't be a good thing. That's not to say that there aren't cases of men taking it for years with no side effects that kept their hair. But my experience validated to me what the PFS guys claim..it really feels like a 'crash' that comes with multiple symptoms and I could easily see it as becoming permanent in a minority of individuals. And since there's no way to know if that will happen or not it's probably safer to not even risk it. It's also worrying how a lot of people who complain about PFS said they took it for a while(sometimes years) before experiencing a crash that took a long time to resolve - if ever. Again in light of my recent experience I see that happening a lot more often than .001% of the time, considering that Fin accumulates in the system and it's technically possible that it would alter the DNA of the 5AR enzyme given enough time.
As far as I'm concerned I consider myself lucky. Yesterday was horrible but I woke up feeling a lot better already, testicular function is fine, no brain fog or depression or anything, but I'm pretty sure that had I taken a full dose it would've taken me probably at least 10x more to recover(so 1-2 weeks). There's a chance that if I keep taking it that my body would get accustomed to it and I could run it long term but that's not a gamble i'm willing to make. When you're sitting there with a dead dick it's a horrible feeling and you realize that there's worse things in life than having to wear a hat or whatever. My MPB is not particularly bad yet anyway, so I'm just gonna use minox/fin until something better comes along like Breezula.
I'm a fan of your content and I know you're a thinking man, you were a big reason why I got the confidence to take it in the first place but you gotta understand that 5AR is just not something that should be inhibited that easily and that strongly in the general public. It's not like with test where you can always inject more, it's used in a lot of tissues and i suggest you read that rodent study which showed that castrated mice did not recover erection function after castration until they were treated with *both* test and DHT. DHT is imporatant in the body, and so is 5AR. So regardless of what the (possibly Merck backed) long term study said it's nowhere near as safe as claimed and the consequences can be dire if unlucky.

For anyone considering starting on finesteride. The biggest issue/delay I had was doubting wether or not it would work. My recommendation is to just do it. The sooner you start the better. I waited two years because I was deciding and my hair got worse and worse. I finally decided to start and my hair came back thicker and stopped receding, and my crown filled out a bit more. However because I waited so long I will now need to consider a transplant to restore my hairline after I was able to confirm which hair follicles were already dead before I started on finesteride. Watching videos is good for your own education but don’t delay on your decision to start. It’s either do it or don’t. Make it a priority decision and it will relieve some of your future stresses in life.

Hair is the same, still haven’t had the transplant. I only take the medication 1mg fin + 1mg min oral 2-3 times a week and it still works. No notable side affects, however I have started developing lipoma bumps on my back under skin, however there is strong evidence that it is hereditary in my family through my dad. I also spoke to Russel Knudsen about this from the hair loss show and he said with certainty that the medication isn’t causing it. I should be going for my transplant this year. Libido is the same but I’m experiencing a hair shed similar to dutasteride, which didn’t result in regrowth. I’ve heard different things that spiro doesn’t actually lower t but lowers aldosterone which isn’t androgenic apparently? If that’s the case do you know what this shed may be a result of if it’s not from lowering androgens which I originally thought?

Kevinn, I'm sorry to say you are completely wrong.
Surely some people dont undergo the side effects and we don't know why. But remember that the fact that they are not touched now do not mean they wont be touched one day. For some people it happened after one month from beginning of treatment, for others it happened years later. But when it is there, the thing is it's mostly irreversible. It's for life. And it's terrible. People must know that finasteride is precisely an endocrine disruptor. While the whole society is trying to struggle again endocrine disruptors that you can find at small doses in food for example, beside, with finasteride, you willingly stuff your body with it.
Finasteride blocks production of DHT, which is the male hormone you absolutely need.. to be a man sexually, for the shape of your body, your muscles, your genitals, your libido, your coginitive potential...etc.. With the loss of DHT, victims come in deep depression, no more sexual activities, they lose wife or girl-friend, job, family, even friends that cant understand your state.
Supressing DHT has a devastating effect, and you cannot say that the victims only try to draw money from chemical companies. No. All the money in the world can't cure you from those side effects. That's the reason why some victims commit suicide.
And contrary to what you say, an everyday wider range of scientific studies validate the side effects.
And as maybe you know today, Reuters recently unvailed the fact that Merck's downloaded the side effects in its studies.
    www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-courts-secrecy-propecia/
Good luck to you with finasteride, Kevinn. You have been informed, it's your choice.
But please be a responsible man, don't commit other people to use it.

Very true, Kevin. This also applies for medication with SSRIs/SNRIs. People get crazy over PSSD/PFS, when - in fact - there is no publication that proves the existence of such.
My explanation for the case of antidepressants is as follows: I realized that in most double blind studies around 10-30% of men in the placebo group claim that they got some kind of sexual dysfunction (even though they received just a placebo). This share of people who have any kind of dysfunctions for whatever reasons are always likely to blame the treatment

Is it possible that post-finasteride syndrome is confused with the long time the drug remains on the skin? It is said that a simple dose of 1mg can remain on the skin for at least 30 days, so daily intake would lead to an over-accumulation in the body. In addition, it takes 3-6 months for the body to rid itself of the drug.
