DIY chamfering plane

In this video, I will show you how to make this easy chamfering jig with one block of hard Maple.

My friend, you made things very complicated. Your colleagues' tutorials are much nicer and to the point. All you need to make a champer plane is a block of wood and it's tiny blade to fit in. God bless you, !

Just about the most simple solution I've seen to date. I've watched quite a few tutorials on making a jig to transform a simple, inexpensive block plane into a chamfer plane. Why? Well, yes, you can chamfer freehand with a block plane, but realistically that only works on short work pieces. Once you get into putting a chamfer on longer projects - where you have to walk and plane - it becomes more difficult to remain consistent.
Initially, I looked at the various out-of-the-box solutions, but they are either poor quality (Amazon) or come with eye watering price tags (Woodpecker). I already own quite a few block planes, so I'll be popping into the garage next year to give this excellent solution a bash. Thank you for taking the time to share.

Let me know how it goes with you, the only tip I’d like to add is to use a strong magnet to hold the plane firm to the block or in addition to this ,keep your thumb pressing the plane against the block to avoid it being lift by the pressure when pressing it against the edge you want to chamfer. ​@TheWoodCrafter1 Yes, I did notice a bit of movement when you were using the jig. As mentioned, I do have several block planes, and would probably dedicate one to this specific task. I'll keep you posted.

Nice to read that you like it, if you like you can also add a stop somewhere above the hand plane if the magnets were not enough to keep it firmly attached to the jig! Or hold it firmly while using it. Good luck
