I see in the 2018 example they had one part be an ellipse, I know that some learners had forgotten how to draw it since we only drew ellipses in Grade 10, maybe a bit in Grade 11, so if they ask an ellipse I am sure a lot of learners would be stuck on that

HI Mr Kleyn, i wanted to ask, the drawing at 13:45 has some black colored in hatching of some sort, what is that? Also, apart from webs, and fasteners what else are'nt we supposed to cut, do gears apply? i noticed that some part of the gear they hatch and others they do not. Thank you in advance

Hi Mr Engine, thanks for the question... With regard to the exceptions for hatching, the following is included: Ribs, shafts, bolts, nuts, rivets, rods, keys, pins and similar components used as fasteners should not be sectioned when the cutting plane passes longitudinally through them. I believe the same would go for a gear in my opinion when cut longitudinally. With regard to the solid black part, that is the Rubber Seal Ring and was specified as such in the question I believe.
