Hi, this is Stephen Key and Andrew Krauss. We are here to help you make money from your ideas. We started our company inventRight over two decades ago to teach people how to license (aka rent) their ideas to companies in exchange for royalties.
This process is called “product licensing.”
On our channel, we show you exactly how you to take an idea and license it to companies in exchange for passive income.
Today, you do not have to start a business to make money from an idea.
With product licensing, you don’t have to write a business plan, raise money, manufacture, market, sell, or distribute any longer.

It’s been a year since this video was posted I don’t know if my appreciation will reach you but this was the most informative and easy to understand video I saw about patents and this video is so important to new innovators.
If my patent is approved I’ll be back and comment here first ❤
Thank you so much!
The main issue I have with patents is that it puts exactly your amazing idea in full-description into the hands of people that know how to produce it, so if the patent office guys is getting a kickback from the massive manufacturers in China then he just tells them the latest hottest idea...they create a bogus prior-art patent real quick and now you have nothing, you just gave it to them for free...you even paid them! But if your idea is junk they wont say a word, they take your money for a patent and pay their bills. The best way to do this is get a small group of private investors to go in and get the thing made, then right before it gets off the boat run your patent, get ahead of the game.
Hello everyone and best wishes for your future endeavors..
Thank you so much
I am an inventor and just found your videos today. I love the way you explain things in such a down to earth and easy to understand way.
Thank you!
@@inventRight You're so very welcome! I am thrilled that I found your channel.

Absolutely the best content on inventions, licensing, and provisional patent applications! I've been developing a process to make a material that I believe can be used for many applications. I have found prior art in an expired patent. The patent was for a specific application in the medical industry. I have produced and tested the material in a few applications and it works well. I will be manufacturing a simple product with this material myself after I file a PPA. I do believe there are many applications that I could license this material for. Do I need to file a PPA for each application? I will be using your SmartIP for my PPA.
Depends on your strategy. If you would like to have multiple patents pending you could do them separately. If not, you can combine them all. They will be probably be separated later through an office action once you file your non-Provisional the application. I am not a patent attorney. I am not giving legal advice.
Thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Tjis is pure gold ! I am presently in this process, this helps a lot ! Thank you Stephen !
I’m so glad this is helpful!
Thanks for this great content! Love the format and all the sage advice. I’m for sure going sign up for your monthly DIY as I get motivated and focused to keep going after so many years of roadblocks and learning curves.
Sounds wonderful David!
@@inventRight Hi Stephen. I watched video you did with a chap that has experience/connections doing licensing deals with NFL, NHL, NBA. I can’t find it. Are you able to share the link or let me know his name? Thanks in advance
I don’t know.

Goldmine of good ideas for drafting a PPA. Thanks!
Great!
I love it Steven thank you so much I got great understanding from this. Of course it's going to take me awhile to really understand what you're saying completely because I've never done this before but I grasp the logistic of it all. Thank you so very much
Thank you Mr.Key
Thank you for watching!

Wonderful info. It sure will help me avoid screwing everything up. Thank You.
Thank you
I am reading your book, listening to the audio version, it is excellent!
Thank you very much!
Keep educating yourself on this process it can get extremely expensive.
I am working with Smart IP right now on my first product idea. This is very helpful!
Thank you for your comment. I do believe it’s the best program out there, since it was designed from a inventors point of view, and from a business point of you.
OMG!!! I'm blown away! I am almost late for an apt because I couldn't stop watching haha! I'm at the PPA level after 6 months of intense work and R & D, I'm so excited as it seems I'm doing everything right. I think I heard you mention a PPA Template or am I dreaming? I don't think I saw a link but either way, would you be kind enough to send me where I should go to start writing my PPA if I understood correctly? I need to start this process and I think you also mentioned a fee that I'm reading to buy, I can't wait to start this. Thank you so much Stephen for this priceless info. I subscribed and will be keeping a close eye on all your clips. ;-)
Please see the comment below.
I don't see the link?

Thank you for posting this. Your videos have helped me a lot over the years. This one was needed, and delivered at the right time!
John, I’m glad you liked it. If you need more help let us know. It’s very difficult to do this by yourself.
Great information, thank you, Instead of drawings can you provide a video of the invention in use for the provisional patent? While giving the specs and dimensions.
Just add the videos to your patent. The more info about your invention, the better

Helpful. Many thanks. This is not Trinity getting a download of helicopter skills. But it's close.
Thanks for this fantastic content. I have 2 ( what i feel are ) great ideas. One for an educational video game. The other for a great website that could potentially go global. Im definitely going to work on the provisional patent application to see where it goes.

I am just getting started as an inventor. Finding new solutions for everyday problems comes very easy for me, and I want to explore this space. I have an idea that I would like to use to start my inventor journey and am interested in your Smart IP solution. Can you tell me more?
Keep educating yourself. Smart IP, I believe is the best software to file a provisional patent application.
Hi, thank you for all this great information.
What do you know about Invent help? Are they reputable?
Hey Stephen Key! I love this information and video! Can you believe it gave me TWO new product ideas? Thanks a lot! 😊
I’m so glad you liked it!
That's a good point about being broad in the description of workarounds. Let's say you created an invention that uses a physics principle but it could be achieved in 2 different implementations of that physics principle. Instead of filing 2 different patents, you could file a patent that describes the use of the output of the physics principle instead of describing how you implemented the physics principle. Is that the point?
Thank you so much. I wish you guys in the future work with cell phone apps.😅
Hi Stephen thanks for the video. More or less how long does it take to obtain a PPA for start of application ?
I’m not quite sure. I know what you mean.
Drafting a PPA can be fairly quick. Filing it is fairly easy as well. Thank you for this question. And please considering subscribing if you haven’t already.
@inventRightTV Thank you, for sharing your knowledge! New subscriber here; I have been trying to find information on how to submit a PPA, for a process that uses another product (chemical), previously patented by someone else for a different use. I am having a hard time finding guidance! Could you point me to any materials dealing with that? Thank you!
Please send me an email.

I can help.
Stephen, you are a legend thank you!
You are very kind!
Whats a coversheet and how many specific "docs" is required during the filing process?
If you have any questions, I highly recommend you call the US PTO customer service. They’re extremely helpful.
Use broad language. That means I assume to employ words such as for a runner track that holds another item that moves in it you would not state any particular shape for that track as that would limit your Patent and someone else could redesign and swipe your idea!?
I would consult with a Patent attorney.
Where do you add this info about your point of difference in the application?
I recomend you study a little more about Provisional Patent Applications. Our Smart IP software will help you as well. Question buddy... I forgot to leave my phone number on my certification of Micro Entity Status form. I did sign and date. Is this or will this cause an issue? My telephone number is listed a few times on the SB16 Cover Sheet which i also submitted.
What about trademarks? How do I file for those?
I typically don’t file for Trademarks. Companies usually determined the names they want to use. But I have filed for Trademarks and have received 13 of them. It’s not that difficult.
I thought that if you filed a new PPA then that starts the 1 year clock over? You seem to suggest here that basically you can amend an already submitted PPA and retain the date. I'm sure I've seen other invent right videos that say you can't amend? I'm confused.
You cannot amend a PPA. But you can bring them all together before the year is up. When you file a new provisional patent application with clock starts over. I’m not a patent attorney I’m not giving legal advice.
@@inventRight I see...so basically all the subsequent PPA's are like placeholders to make sure the product is protected and they become throw aways once their year expires?
I think you should get legal help.
@@inventRight Can you maybe explain what you mean in the video? I'm not quite at the stage where I need a lawyer.
Hey Stephen, i just wanted to know if i sell my provisional patent to any company then who is going to file for the utility patent? Me or the company?
Companies typically do not purchase provisional patent applications or patents. They might pay for them, but you still manage them and own them.
I applied for a patent, which was rejected, but the application is published by USPTO. However, as I understand it, the PPA is never published, so if you abandon it there is no public record. So, it sounds like once you file the PPA, the clock starts ticking.
I’m not a patent attorney, so I’m not giving you legal advice. Yes the clock starts once you file your PPA but if you don’t publicly disclose you can be file it again. The only thing you’re losing is your previous date.
Most applications are rejected the first time around. Don't let it deter you.
@@binarygalaxy5731 When the patent is rejected, Does it come with an explanation of what needs to be rectified? I would think so, But I have no clue of this process.
Don't bother with the provisional drafting program they have. Finished writing one up and found out it is set up to submit to the old EFS system a week after they took it down. I'm not good with computers, the patent office isn't very helpful for us little people, local counsel used to give one an hour pro bono, now they won't talk to me or take my money. Been trying everything for weeks, change to pdf, abstract over 150 words, it just keep bouncing back at me.
Thank you for commenting. It looks like you need some help.
1.Join your local inventors group.
2.Get a coach
3.Find a mentor
4.Call the USPTO they have great customer service.
Thanx for cracking me up, nice for us that I'm not angry about it, isn't it? You might have mentioned that it's still possible to file by paper, which is what I'm about to do. And an actual example of what a completed application should have looked like would have helped quite a bit as well. @@inventRight
Two questions good sir. First, is it better to file a PPA or a NPA? Secondly, should you file a PPA/NPA before you construct a prototype with an engineer? Thanks!
The first point was answered in this or similar videos - PPA is valuable as you will have a year to fine tune and potentially combine multiple PPAs into a single non provisional application. It will also give you time to make your prototypes, market test, and do other validations before you spend big $$$ on the real one. So that should answer your second point - no you don't need to wait to do your prototype. If your idea isn't viable you have arguably wasted your time with the PPA, but it's up to you to decide if you want to do it early. It could turn out your idea doesn't work, and that is totally ok, you can file anyway.

How are you Stephen....Can you tell me what is the biggest percentage royalty I can get from a company?
There’s a range. 3% to 10%. 5% is about average.
@@inventRight Appreciate it
i am from India, where do i have to file my PPA, is it on US site or on Indian site, if i file PPA in India is it mean i get protected for all countries or someone can use it in other countries.
( i am filing on software, i am going to reach some US investors, ) i want to know what is the role of countries on PPA, where do i have to file PPA or is that i have to file it separately for all countries i want to protect it.
is there anything like " international PPA "
You can file in the US. Please educate yourself on PPAs.
If I make a provisional patent with just problem and the solution(as i have not yet comeup with the prototype), is there chances that people will look at my provisional patent and come up with their prototype ideas and they patent with my solution? if yes when should i apply for provisional patent and how
Your solution is your prototype.
IMPORTANT QUESTION: ASSUMING ONE FOLLOWS ALL THE STEPS OUTLINED HERE TO FORMULATE A TRANSACTION READY PROVISIONAL, MUST YOU LATER FOR CERTAIN OBTAIN A NON-PROVISIONAL PATENT OR CAN YOU SELL THE PROVISIONAL TO POTENTIAL INVESTORS WITHOUT THE NEED OF THE NON-PROVISIONAL?
I don’t know of anyone that has sold their provisional patent application.
@@inventRight - Thank you for the prompt response.
With provisional there is not event a patent search done! so what good is it if 90% of searches are rejected and you find out a year later you just wasted your time. Pat attorneys persuade you to go this route just to make more money.
Please reach for prior art.
Why does not putting manufacturing in make the patent not have value?
How can you indicate that how its manufactured is irrelivant? Like for a chair, it could be hand made, 3d printed, moulded, or made with a robot. It could be made with hard wood, soft wood, metal or plastic. It could have wheels, be ergonomic, have an adjustible incline. If you hold the patent that says its hand made of oak, couldnt someone just come along and say "well mine is birch"?
Over 97% of all patents are absolutely worthless. Those patents are basically just concepts.
If you cannot make your invention, efficiently, cost-effectively, it’s not worth anything.
Always include workarounds, variations to create your invention.Steal it from yourself. It’s the best protection. Put that information in your patent application. I highly recommend you watch more videos..
These are great questions, but you can find the answers another videos.
@@inventRight thank you for the response, ive watched a bunch of videos and havnt found those answers yet but ill keep at it.
You’re welcome.
That's what I'm afraid of, some Slug stealing my idea
