I don't use Telegram and no I won't ask you to message me for free stuff.
They tried me
I did report the bugger, I knew it wasn't you, over the years we dealt with that same crap on our channel, just wanted to give you a heads up, someone was in your comment section trying to sucker ppl, thanks for the awesome content as usual!!
I got one too. Knew it was a scam!
Ya mean, Sean doesn't wanna make me a _Scared Guitar?!!?_ 🎸
Me too, I don’t know what it is even about. Stupid people with nothing better to do.
Dang, man. First time viewer, love your work. Couldn't agree more about the stolen Valor stuff. But I gotta say, I'm an old guy, 67 and change. My social security would NEVER cover even an entry level Gibson. But for $308 to my door, I got a chibby 3 pickup SG that absolutely smokes! SINCE I bought it under no illusions, and tell everyone who admires it what it is, and would NEVER sell it, no not never, I think no one is hurt (no even Gibson, since I wasn't gonna buy one anyway). Had 2 years of joy from that guitar, and I ain't sorry for a bit of it. Peace.
I'm an Army vet. I don't think it's at all like stolen valor. It's just business. Gibson are merely too greedy. If their instruments were worth the money, I wouldn't complain.
If Gibson weren't so blatantly cash grabbing, (making so many substandard "limited editions"), I would never consider buying a Chibson. However, Gibson are, and I am.
They have almost the same QC issues as Gibson and Epiphone.
I love my Gibson SG ,but I feel like Gibson has gone way to expensive! That's why I probably never buy another one. I'd rather buy a Chibson or any other type guitar that's affordable and rebuild it myself, Shawn! You did an excellent rebuild on that Greeny! If I wouldn't have this Cancer and now really can't afford to purchase even a cheap Chibson or any other type guitar right now , but I'm winning the battle so far, soon I will be able to purchase one and get you to rebuild it!
Keep up the great work! 👍
It's only counterfeit if you try to sell it as a genuine Gibson. I have a copy 335 - I swapped out the tuners with Grovers, Epiphone pickups with Golden Age, mickey mouse pots and switch with CTS and switchcraft. It plays and sounds great - and it didn't cost me 3500 bucks and I'm not worried about scratches or it getting lifted as much as if it were a genuine one. When people ask about it, I tell them it is a Chinese copy. A quick way to tell the difference is to look at the truss rod adjuster - Chinese use Allen sockets , Gibson use acorn nuts. I also have a genuine 57 Les Paul Custom - with an acorn nut - but it cost me a fortune and I never take it out of the house - now that was a waste of 7500.
The problem with Gibson is, not everyone has $3000.00 plus for a guitar to sit in their living room playing the three cords to sweet home Alabama.
I solved that problem with a Made in Indonesia PRS SE single cut twin humbucker. Excellent quality and setup. Puts Gibsons own Eppiphones to shame.
@@stephanguitar9778PRS at every price tier beats pretty much everything. I own several Gibsons and several PRS ..if I had to pick one out of all of them as “best” it be the PRS CE-24. It actually splits and sounds like a true single coil .. I had to replicate the “TCI” thing for pickups as it didn’t have that . But , I figured out the ‘recipe’ for the TCI for the 85/15 pickups . It will probably work in yours to if they have 85/15s .. cost about 40-45 bucks to do
You took the words right out of my mouth when you was talking about the relic finish. When I buy a new guitar I want it to look new . I can do enough damage to the finish trying to baby it.
Absolutely correct. Don't support sellers who are stealing another brand's identity. Outright theft.
they should just leave the damn logos off and sell them as no names at least. but then the headstock shape would be the only complaint??!! you are a great repairman!!!! peace
If it were only the headstock shape, they'd be no different than Japanese brands make for markets outside the US. I mean, not the quality, but you know what I mean.
Sean and Cathy are putting in the work!
I'm with you on the relic thing - it's another stolen valor issue. But the counterfeiting is a worse sin. I'm glad you sanded it out - the grain is rather spectacular on that one!
a strat headstock with no logo looks KILLER. not sure why people want to represent something false.
I bought a Chibson to use on stage and not take my expensive Les Paul and get it stolen or broken.
Mine looks fabulous and plays very well. Replaced the pickups with PAF pickups from GFS.
AND...I replaced the nut and tuners.
Other than that, it plays like my real Gibson and sounds just the same for $480, total including the extra parts.
Now, if someone knocks my LP over, I will not go mental....as my real LP is safely at home on the wall.
MAN you're like the Bob Ross of guitar repair!
The man worked his magic and turned a lemon into a cherry.
Great job, Sean !!!!
This is becoming one of my favorite channels!
This is my favorite channel!
I want to hear some of kathys pick ups with push pull pots. Great job sounds great
I’m with you on the relic weirdness that’s all the rage these days. When I build a guitar, I spend a lot of time on the finish. I’m not going to take a hammer to it so someone can fake old. There’s too much fake going on; I’m not going to add to it.
I finally made it to the end of the internet, thought I had seen it all, but now I see a relict guitar turned into a new guitar...
IMHO, the greatest Gibson that never was is Slash's Glodie. The guitar that saved Gibson and even they couldn't make a good replica.
The “Gibsons” used on Guns and Roses Appetite For Destruction” were Counterfeit guitar made by LA Luthiers. Ironically Gibson sells several Slash signature LP marketed as Gibsons were the originals weren’t Gibsons for $3.2k!! Each…Although Henry is gone, the BS goes on. Gibson guitars deserve the Chibsons for overcharging, raising prices, gouging the consumer, and alienating the Mom and Pop guitar shops. And yes there are top of the line Gibsons that need to be Scarred Guitar (sent out in need of a set up) yes Guitar Center I am referring to you…
Wow, that relic’ing is quite exquisite. You can really see the Bamboo showing through the paint work.
I think relicing should be earned by time and playing normal wear.
Relic should be natural wear from the player, nothing else 🫡
As long as it is sold without the Gibson or whatever brand they are knocking off's logo, then im okay with Chibsons, particularly when some of them are as good or better (or can be) than the flagship brand for a weeks worth of Mcdonalds meals money. Then do exactly what Sean did and drop in a couple SH18 whole lotta humbuckers for 100-200 used/new, change the tuners, oil the nut, and wala!
A replica is one thing but my biggest issue with Chibsons is that they could easily be set with after market pickups and passed off as 'real' not saying on a large scale but why spend your money on something like a Chibson in stead of a Harley Benton or Firefly guitar
@@I.am_Groot I believe HB and Firefly are of the Chibson Ilk, arent they? Youre right to be concerned about authenticating a guitar, also.
@@_Yep_Yep_ They are all made in the same region but HB is its own brand no desire to rip off other names. Firefly does some questionable stuff like with their EVH 'tribute' but also makes good entry level guitars that don't direct copy others
I don’t get why people are paying $50k for a Murphy Lab Gibson LP Custom Shop guitar? If I’m buying a new guitar I want it to look new!
They're collector items. The Gibson and Epiphone production models don't have that.
Play with you 100% fella I don't know what a girl I don't understand it either I don't understand what anyone would pay $5 to take a brand new guitar and have it turned into something that looks old it's it's the craziness of the the Gen z is the craziness of woke it's all that crap it's all falls into the same category when the lump it all together it's Insanity I always tried the hardest to keep my guitars looking as nice as possible polishing them cleaning them after using them since I've gone blind slowly over the years and I can't see anything going on with the finish of my guitar as much anymore anyway unless I hold them underneath a bright light and I can see that they shine LOL that's about it hopefully right that they shine That's the whole idea of a new guitar and a nice guitar but yeah so I've given up on worrying about if they get dinged or banged I don't like that feel it anymore its just accept it but that's a far cry from buying or having someone take my car and make it look like a piece of s***so I guess in a long, I agree with you 110% sincerely Bob the blind bags on guitar
Glad someone else said it too. I don’t understand relicing, but I didn’t understand preworn jeans either
Very informative video. What type of paint did you use on the back and sides. Did you have to use a primer and did you spray the clear coat on it afterwards?
Loving these daily videos!
Now me, I wanna get some CHIBSON and CHENDER waterslides made just for guitars like these as I agree with you in not putting someone else's name on guitars they never made.
That looks sooo much better, I agree Sean, I've never understood the relic look, I prefer to relic mine the natural way TIME and playing. Great video, looking forward to the next, have a great week
Ask anyone that would pay extra for a brand new scratched up guitar if they would pay more for a reliced brand new car.
Im about to put a tone pros bridge on a firefly like that. The post holes are too small.
If i take the right size drill bit, will it be easy to drill them out bigger? Or will it tear out like hell?
All of my relics earned their marks lol. I don’t understand doing it to new ones either.
One of your best episodes ever, so much info. Great camera work today! I'm loving this channel!
If you make these I will buy one. Love that tone.
I agree with you , I don't get the relic crap. I buy new guitars for a reason and I try to keep them in perfect condition , I don't want something I spent money on to look like shit. SMH!!!
I hope you don’t have as much shit to worry about in your life as me bc trying to keep my guitars in perfect condition sounds like a good way to ruin every playing sesh with hypervigalance and anxiety 🤯
@@terrorbirds9835 Sounds to me like you're the one with anxiety , just because I take care of my guitar's doesn't mean I don't enjoy playing them. I just don't beat on them or bang them around , I play at home and put my guitars in the racks when done , it's actually pretty simple. There's no reason any guitar should be all dented and scratched up if you're playing it normally , of course you'll get some scratches around the pickguard and wear on the fretboard. That's different from your guitar looking like it fell off a roof...
I don't get the relic thing either. Just "relic" it with your playing .
My nephew worked in Asia for one of the Chibson sellers. It's the Wild West (East). Until their governments crack down sadly there's not much the manufacturers can do.
Can a Chibson be as good or better than a Gibson - with modifications and pro set up - ABSOLUTELY YES! AND, I want my guitar relic'ed - BY YEARS OF GIGGING AND NATURAL WEAR AND TEAR - nothing else.
Not gonna lie, I was thinking "here we go again, another Chibson upgrade guy" but I was loving it man!
You're not only a very knowledgeable and skillfull Luthier but also an entertainer.... good combo for these types of videos.
You got yourself another subscriber.
thanks Fraja!
AS usual great work, Sean! I would like to hear it with Cathy's pickups...
You're a genius! Maybe I missed it, but what did you use to maximize grainage at 10:22? HUGE improvement!
I got a great Epi LP Standard for $550 with Whole Lotta Humbuckers. A 2016. Wanted those original pickups. but the guy who changed them put in a boost into the guitar with a battery compartment well done in the back. Absolutely visceral!
I hate relicking. If it happens after years, fine. But not brand new.
Why did you put the neck pick up back backwards, part of the greeny was it was out of phase from the factory!!! Put it back quick before he sees it!!! Love you all and have a blessed day!! The greeny wasalways outofphase!!!!
Gibson LOVES the Chibsons. People who buy them are not in the market for a $2750 Les Paul Standard, but they might buy some Gibson parts to put on their cheep knockoff. It's brilliant actually. They probable fund them lol
They might come out of the epiphone factory?
What did you use to bring out the grain? What color name was the final stain color used over the tiger stripes? You do beautiful work man!
I'm with you 100% on the reliced guitar thing . I mean......why??
Sean, you've come a long way since we first met back in the day! I guess we both have! Kudos to us! Survivors, and thrivers!
Relic-ing makes about as much sense as buying a new car and asking the car lot to key and wreck the front end first!
I have a 2021 firefly blue bat, done no mods other than polishing the frets and it plays and sounds as good as any Gibson I’ve ever played.
If you drop it and the head falls off, it's a real Gibson! 😂
I bought a pearly gates a looonnnggg time ago, and it still is an amazing guitar. It was light, the neck was nice. I put real Gibson parts on it, kluson tuners , CTS, sprague orange drops, bone nut, tweaked the action and intonation …A set of Duncan JB 6 and 8….and it’s a monster. I have $700 in it, and I’m not afraid to have a beer thrown at me anymore.
I have a kit guitar coming next month with a flame top, what type of dye do you use to make the flame pop like that?
You nailed it with this one Sean. Guess your neck ain't as red as I sometimes thought🤣 Really important message for everyone to keep in mind and not just about guitars. Good on ya mate.
I'm pretty sure it's just as red as you thought it was lol
I completely agree with not supporting misbranded products or anyone buying and showcasing these black market products, whats terrible is youtubers raving about these pirate ☠️ products and trying to justify their actions when confronted.
******WAY TO GO SEAN!***** for taking a proper stand on this issue!
Another awesome makeover. Excellent skills at work. Hard to believe that’s the instrument from the beginning of the video. Big kudos.
When you were buffing that lacquer, I could almost smell it. I guess I've done that before lol
Have to agree about the relic thing. I’ll do it myself over time.
Your allusion of the medals made so much sense to me… you know I’ve seen on eBay a knock of of Mike ness 1976 Les Paul gold top reliced and it looks good . 330$ but , if I’d get it I’d ask them to put 1945 on the headstock ( one of his song title) instead of Gibson. ❤
Thanks Sean for the push/pull tutorial. Makes more sense now.
One of my favorite videos you’ve done. Great refit job !
It is an odd world. I play for a livin'. Have for 40+ years.
Honestly, I want folks to see that I only need a Grote guitar and a solid state amp and a few fx to pull off a gig.
I would feel goofy showing up to a gig that paid 100$ per man with a 3000$ guitar and a boutique amp.
If I needed 5000$ worth of gear to play a bar gig, then I probably should choose another occupation.🤔
If it takes a 1000$ rifle with a 300$ scope to bag a deer at 40 yds......well I ain't impressed.
Gr8 work on making this guitar better than it was Sean, especially the top!
Man you have a true gift. That thing looks amazing and sounds great
If you want a cheap Les Paul go for japanese models. I had an Edwards (Esp) Les Paul and it was awesome. It sounded great and was really precise both in the construction and the sound. I sold it becaus i liked my Gibson LP studio better. IMO a good Gibson (even the tribute, melody maker entry level ones) can't be beaten, theres just that certain vibe and tonal quality that really inspires me. However you can find awesome guitars for much cheaper, and be completely satisfied with it. We all agree that consumerism is bad, but if the market demands Gibsons even with old designs and flaws than there's a reason.
he dont give a shit he is just putterfucking around for views, just trying to make a living
Baseball shirt. If you played baseball growing up, you were either a catcher or first base. I would say catcher. 😂
GREAT FINISH JOB! I would have used imperial size pick up rings myself, imports are way to big, other than that: PERFECTION
Could you give us a parts list of some of the hardware and pickups that you used on the Chibson guitar??
Thanks! 😊
Cathy does a real good job of keeping you straight lol
Hey love your show, what's the ruby red guitar hanging in the background? Looks really nice.
I hate relicing too, and I agree with the chibson thing too. If I ever bought one I’d ask for it to not be labelled.
You took that guitar and made it a beauty, no shock there, but it looks gorgeous now.
Murphy labs can bite me 😅
Pretty amazing what some quality hardware and pickups can do for a guitty!
Really liked this transformation. This was a great video.
Loved this got a tobacco chib qnd live ir . Replaced wire harness qnd put in plug in fat pat pickups. Looks and sounds sweet.
The positive side of things is, you can use those stock pickups as a microphone, should you need one!
Relic-ing a guitar is just more stolen glory. My mid-'90s LP was brand new 30 years ago, and has some dings and scratches (but it's original unbroken headstock!). Unless the relic-process somehow makes it sound or play better, its just baloney. LOVE that people pay extra for someone to beat up their guitar for no reason. If anyone wants, I will happily relic your guitar for $1000. Sound like a scam? So does the custom shoppe doing it! :D
Damn good job all the way around, dude. I'm totally impressed with your skills. That turned out nice.
The idea I like (don't know if irs possible) is my Gibson SG without a headstock like those new headless guitars, the main reason is to help with tuning, it's tettiffic to play and I've heard of them string butlers with rollers that's supposed to help. Is a mod like that possible, it'd also help with neck dive the SG is infamous for. Rock on dude. Love the channel by the way I've subscribed as it's entertaining and informative especially to us guitar players \m/
Headless guitars aren't a new thing, I had a made in USA Steinberger GM thirty years ago. Like a dumbass I traded for a badass 44 magnum, which I still have. I really wish I still had that Steiny though
The neck dive is an easy fix. Get a different strap with some texture to it like leather instead of nylon, or check out guitar gummies. Or do what I did. Get one of those gel inserts for shoes. Cut a strip off, and attach it to your strap at the shoulder. Bam! No more neck dive.
Not a fan of these Chibsons . Seen a guy buy one for $1500 thought it was real it looked great till my tech pointed out everything even a average player may miss. ( Purchase is always from road side rent a space sale at Farmers markets ) not a problem at music stores most in my area ( that still exist almost extinct ) will honor a fake ' if it got by the counter kid thats rare . Its not a big deal till people sell them as Gibson's , I actually like the Ace Frehley's LP, I couldnt buy the metal flake for what the ax cost its the resale people who aint cool on disclosure its a fake. Really like how the flame pops after your re- finishes ' . I , have learned something' about foame tops. That LP special with the bolt beck looked amazing. Good skills you show, ill subscribe ! JB up in Delaware
I just got the Ace Frehely blue sparkle Chibson LP. Beautiful guitar. Intonation was dam close right out of the box. The tuners are sloppy but still hold tune good enough. The 3-way switch doesn't work all the time. I will be replacing it. The way they have the volume and 3way switch hooked up, you can use the 3way as a killswitch, kinda fun. The Ace blue sparkle chibson could never be sold as a real Gibson because only one was ever made by Gibson, and I bet Ace still has it.
Double Comment, your out look on RELIC GUITARS is spot on .
Yo Sean the 10.4 is the saddle width or like we associate 52mm at the bridge and 50 at the neck.
Um, why would they put the saddle width on the pickup? Two completely different companies making the products...you're saying the pickup company sent a Chinese email to another Chinese company and asked them to stamp the saddle width on their pickups?
@@jritechnology String spacing?
I like the way you make it look like it takes just a few minutes to do all the stuff. Ha! You and I know it takes a lot of time.😵💫
I disagree with your soldier analogy, but that’s just my opinion. Those guys that fight in a war, are in a whole other degree of balls/guts and everything!!!! Can’t compare guitar things to that! Nope!! Not even close…
Anywaaaaaay… I enjoy ya. It’s a lot of fun watching you have fun with what you Love to do.
Thanks for the videos! I saw your guitars on Amazon… and that’s very Cool! Great job getting out there and doing it. Getting a business going is no joke, so props.
Shawn, I am digging your channel!!!
I've got three counterfeit Chibsons and Chenders. I bought them AFTER I popped for big bucks on the real deals, and I use them to hone my luthier skills on. That way, I won't devalue a good guitar. I won't sell them, probably, because they're now pretty good guitars, and if I do, I'll be up front on what they are. Man, that's the best I can do.
What are the two things going on there before the clear coat? Looks REAL nice!!
great vid thanks this was fun these def needed some help Scarred perfectly
I could really use that tool that you used to remove the volume & tone knob nuts/ hardware. Looking for the correct size socket or box end wrench gets old. I like that tool you used! Where can I obtain one?
His wife got his off of temu under "guitar tools"

1. Awesome Job Lad ! Love the sounds - both Single Coils & Double Coils.
2. You'd be Perfect for one of them Hollywood "Westerns" - Yeah 🤠 !
I love that brown top! I once saw a used rootbeer brown Gibson Les Paul Supreme hanging at the local music store. Absolutely loved the look of that guitar
Line 6 UX2! I still have mine too.
I’m with you on that relicing stuff……
Holy smokes!!!! You made that guitar waaaaayyy better!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Oh my that relic job ? Man I agree don't relic any guitar ! Hey Guitar Madness makes nice pickups and look well done . Nice Post 💫
Has anybody ever told you you have the same voice as Ernest P Worrell?
Nice the way the finish turns out. Good work I'd like to get yall to build me a Tele bridge pickup. Good video
Sounds good too. Only thing that's not for me is the back but the dude likes it so that's all that matters. Nice axe, now.
What finish is on the back?
I have a 1970's Jedson LP Custom... and it's amazing.
What a great great show really appreciate all the articulate things that you do to these guitars. I’ll be at a counterfeit guitar, but you basically stripped it. Put on all new everything so now it’s a Scared Chibson! Go buddy
