  • Cliffside Erosion caused by multiple storms along the Pacifica California coast has endangered small homes on Sharon Way and several small businesses on Palmetto Ave between Manor Dr.and Paloma Ave.
Pacifica California is a seaside community located along Hwy 1 between San Francisco/Daly City and Half Moon Bay.
Cliff side erosion has been a problem in Pacifica for the last several decades. In the 1990's several small homes were lost due to erosion and in 2010 two small apartment complexes along the Esplanade and Manor Dr.were red tagged as uninhabitable due to the danger of falling from the cliff side they were built on due to several heavy storms soaking the cliffs. #davekent #drones #davekentlive

A resident was interviewed & asked how concerned she was about the land falling into the ocean. She commented that she wasn't as concerned about what was happening behind their properties as much as she was about "these ppl" coming in & telling residents they needed to move bc...they had no place to go...
    WHAT??? :-0
It's either fall into the ocean with their homes or apts, or do what officials are telling them to do: GET OUT!

I worked on the construction of the RV park shown in the video, (4:00) some 25+ yrs ago. I used to sit on the cliff edge at lunch and watch the pelicans and the occasional whale. The cliff edge has crept back about 35 feet since then, if memory serves.
The cliffs were eroding back then and everyone knew it. They're just compacted sand! Global climate change bringing higher sea levels and more violent storms and the Pacific Ocean will eat every structure seen in the video in ten years. Maybe less.

They'll find someone. It will be the taxpayers and/or insurance companies. They do this on the flood plains of the Mississippi River, the Outer Banks of NC, the Gulf Coast. Natural evolution of the land causes destruction and they rebuild on the same spot of ground. Einstein once said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

Won't that pillar shoring wall and boulder repository in front of the mobile home park work?
      1:01

    • @ralphaverill2001
      @ralphaverill2001 Před 7 lety +4

The shoring and boulders will buy some time. Because neighboring properties didn't use the pillar shoring, the RV park will have extend the shoring around its flanks as it slowly become a peninsula and eventually an island. (There are many such islands along the northern Pacific coast, a couple of them off Pacifica not far from where the video was shot.) At some point it simply won't be worth it any more, and they will throw in the towel.
Also, there is still erosion from wind and rain, although nowhere near as rapid as wave erosion.
The developers' investment/return time line is limited. Nature's time line extends to infinity.

Take a look at the 3:10 mark and notice the road about 300 feet back. The entire area between the road and the waters edge should be cleared and sloped from the roadside to the water and rip rapped with large stones to gradually smaller ones about halfway and then sodded the rest of the way. This would put an end to the erosion and make maintenance of 'blowouts' easier to manage and restore after big storms. Failure to do this will result in the 'cliff' continuing to move inward and eventually claim the entire community! I suppose they could leave a buildable area, say 60-80 feet, by the street on the seaward side so the property owners don't lose everything but they better act soon as to what they are going to do!

Dave my first comments on this vid were at the end of Jan "2016" and I just received responses to them a few days ago Feb "2017". This is happening with other channels too. I actually commented on a vid with an important and urgent question on a medical issue in June "2014", got the response a few days ago, Feb "2017". Two and a half years! I am under the impression that it has something to do with data-mining. The United Nations runs the web now. Good, bad or ugly, that's the way it is.It was signed over by Mr ZerO in recent months.

Three theories or forces dominate or control upon the planet of the earth...
First:The force or theory that dominates upon the atmosphere is the end of the of the first theory of climate change and global warming (dynamic horizontal movement)...
Second:The force or theory that dominates upon Tsunami, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, sinkholes, dry lakes and rivers, flow of sweet water from the bank of dead sea,the formation of new mountains or islands, collaps of mountains ,& ,& ,&...
