It’s frankly a super historical model. It would have looked much more subdued but the fact that Porsche was on the brink of acquisition inspired Lai to pen one of the most forward thinking 911 designs. I hope they get more appreciation!

Yet another 996 video I'm excited about. I have it in guards red and updated the side markers with a clear look. I thought about wheels like yours to be more modern but I have the classic wheels and we'll it's simply a work of art.

Well done mate. I always thought the brown interiors...Savanna, was too much also. The addition of black looks great. I thought my turn indicator on my ‘81 928 not resetting after left turns was just because it was old. Kinda glad to know that it is a common problem and prevalent on newer cars too.

I was going to suggest the 'GT3 centre console delete' but you've got your gauges in there... would've saved several important grams!

Lovely video. My wife bought me a ‘02 996.2 for my decade birthday, and it’s been a blast. Had to sink some money into it to get a few kinks worked out but I’m getting there!

Great vid!! I bought a 2001 996 Carrera with 21,170 miles. The car is like new. Manual gear box and it is a joy to drive. I've been thinking of modding it but, it's so perfect as it is. Had the IMS done right when i bought it.
It sounds like a car that you probably won't modify being a manual and low miles but over time you never know. There are plenty of bolt on mods that are upgrades that are worth investigating to improve the performance of an already great car.
Beautiful 996. Makes a average guy like me feel like maybe I could actually afford to have a 911.

I've been torn between an early 996 or a C5 Z06 for my next project. I've seen amazing builds using both, so there is no bad choice. Love this one. Tasteful and fast is a win/win. Cheers.

Having bought a 996TT recently, I can't agree more with Alan and his superb car! As Scott mentioned my 993 in Dxb; due to Covid boredom I also installed the bell works paddle shifter, and man, together with my 4.0L upgrade, does it makes a difference! I just didn't liked the (far away) paddle position in combination with my dished Momo steering wheel. So i did my own paddles, located closer to the wheel, easy to do and now easier to reach, which is important on the track. And Scott, i promise the 996 will stay stock ... ... mostly :P
Hopefully the boarders will open in Australia at some point and I'll be able to head over to Dxb and see this new engine move you around Yas again.

its an amazing car tiptronic as well, aircon water cooled everyday driver , 18" turbo twists on mine and taco wing almost spitting image of the one today, dark blue interior so lucked out. I did get the headlight covers from pelicanparts... wow upgrades the face.. thanks again and subbed

Love that Silver Tip, great mods, and nothing wrong with Tips, they're great above 4000rpm and with paddles and that momo difficult to beat

Really tastefully done. A 996.1 aero is a beautiful thing. The mk2 skirts look much sharper, along with the Oz wheels and gives it a nice stance. Love the PPs and steering wheel

Absolutely nothing wrong with the Tiptronic gearbox. It shifts faster than anyone could manage in a manual car! I bet 99% of people who criticise it have never used one....

I think the wing is classic 996. I worked at the Porsche dealership in college during the first years of the 996 and almost every new 996 we got in initially had that aero kit fitted. Now you don’t see them that often.
this one is an aftermarket one but I understand what you mean with some of the options from Porsche

Greeting from Scotland. I am in Ayr, your 996 is lovely. As a keen enthusiast I have a 991.1 c4gts. I am interested in purchasing a 996. C4s What is the gear box like as most people recommend a manual and I am interested in what the difference is.
Great content. I was getting motion sickness from your video; you could do with a camera/ phone with stabilisation, or just use a modernish iPhone.
I use a camera without a gimbal with gives an authentic wobble effect ::)
I do a lot of these on my own so carrying equipment is an issue but its definitely worth a thought. Glad you enjoyed the video :)

A gimbal would be ideal, or even a cheap tripod. These days a newish mobile phone does the job very well too.

I drive 996.2 Tiptronics and wonder what brand is the Japaness shifting paddles? I will get it with the momo steering wheel. That is my goal for ride now.

Nice touches, I would change the interior to black though the cream doesn't match the seats or steering wheel. Get a master upholsterer to do it

Yep sorry, EBC Big Red and OEM calipers. I have recently gone over to a Ferodo Performance Brake Pads, got to say way better bite and zero fade. Although the brake dust is unbelievable 😮
I do believe EBC pulled out of Australia, and now only available online.
Just read this again ,,. ok so you have standard calipers, so what were the brake disks that you were talking about installing wrong way around? Were these standard Porsche disks? So then, the only part that is not porsche in the video was the EBC 'fast road and track' brake pads... Am I correct? Again, apologies for being so pedantic, its just we have identical cars and I am ready to do the brakes .,... cheers, Adam

WELL DONE. Freaking gorgeous example of 996. Why would anyone spend time and money on an Asian import when you can have something like this around the same cost. I see 2000 WRX's blown up on Craigslist for $12,000 I just don't get it. I've seen _prime_ examples of 996 for as low as $15k USD. This car has proper pedigree from the factory gates.

@@markusionescu3957 dont get me wrong i like gas cars and 911s with standard transmission s but that IMS bearing is a big issue on 996s and i believe 997 s u know and i mean doesn't it sound cool a 996 that is electric like the car can run till it 40 plus years old thats almost like a restomod. Also i want a car that i can drive around my home town and isent much of a big deal but at the same time kinda is the 996 offers that unlike the 997 its also cheap. O yeah if i get a 996 im also putting a 996 to 997 rear front conversion kit 😂😂😂 i think i might get a tesla conversion kit , out of any other Porsche car the 996 would be the only car i would do this to well also some old classic 911s if ever got any older model's o yeah another reason i would like to do that to it is to add stealth elements to is

The owner got this one through the Porsche grapevine, mate knew a mate who had one. Think $2500 was the asking price, but a genuine GT3 wing.

911 is my all time fave auto and the G1 996 would be my choice. What i don't get is buying one thing and trying to make it look like something else by tacking bits on. Must be getting old. 👍🖖😎🏍🦼🐶🦴
I own a 99 996 coupe and I wish I had as much enthusiasm for the car as others do. It's my fault because in 2015 I set out for a 70s - 80s air cooled SC but settled for the 996 based on it being less than half the price. My question to all 996 owners is all the love for the 996, is it mostly based on the price? My issue is mostly related to my belief that older and vintage is just plain cooler and trumps all modern, and in my view, the 996 is too big and too modern.
A 996 and a 911 SC are very very different cars. I think it’s all perspective and the drivers choice. Yes the 996 is a bigger water cooled car but it’s so small compared to the newer 911’s.

Hi. I am also in Melb. Would like to get the same wheel and paddles on my 996.1 but how did you get it legal? From what I know it’s against Vicroads mods guide 13.4 for vehicles after June 1995. I’m hoping there is a way…
Now that's a very good question and I'm not sure about the answer to that, I'll look that up.

Been looking at this cars but $35k repair bill added a slight doubt, hope it was dumb bad luck
Lobster claws (strictly "forks") are 10kg not 15kg, not bad for 19 inch wheels. They're about the lightest Porsche wheel there is for these cars. I eventually found the OZ 18s to be 8.7kg, so slightly lighter, but an inch smaller.

GT3 spec springs? Unless he has GT3 dampers, that is impossible lol... GT3 springs will not fit a standard 996 shock.

My 996.2 has no rear wiper stock.
That has come up a few time including on our instagram page, it must have been an option.
