Look, we can talk about Schumacher all day and how much of a GOAT he was and how he demonstrated his skill in this quali but i think that Sato's second place here was quite impressive. Coincidentally, 2004 was also his best F1 year, finishing 8th in the WDC and managing a 3rd place in USA GP. Sure, Sato was overall no contest for Button but still you can see how happy Sato is to even achieve front row in quali (his only time).
Just watching this, and footage from that period v modern f1 cars, the steering input when collecting the car (especially over steer) seem to be far more snappy now than back then Just look at how Michael scoops up the rear end going into the chicane, nothing to aggressive, just a smooth deep input, today that would’ve been a massive stab of opposite lock I wonder why that is? 🤔 because the cars are heavier now?
First, it's an exceptional lap by Michael. Then, one must consider the weight/wheelbase of cars, the characteristics of the tyres, and general aero rules. It's harder to save a car now when it gets out of shape, given it's got such a long wheelbase.
@@EmoDKTsuchiya it’s something I’ve never really picked up on because all the drivers change at the same time, so it’s gradual but watching videos like this and other highlights just makes it so much more obvious
First, it's also the length of the cars, a longer car off needs more steering input to collect it from oversteer. Second, MS is extremely good, he predicts that the car will oversteer, and is able to give his input to collect the car, not as a reaction to what is happening, but at as a prediction of what is about to happen.
Goosebumps all over me. THESE ENGINES BRING EM BACK!
Michael Schumacher was a phenomenal driver.
in that race he was a total beast undestroyable...
He was helped by the fact Kimi held up the entire grid by somehow ending up in 2nd in that McLaren after Lap 1.@@raychev982

Now that mentioned it, it's incredible to witness the delicate steering

Not much of a battle in the end was it?
better days of the world.
hearing another language on top of the drivers is decrepit. use subs below other broadcasts can do it
Michael was extremely special indeed.
"Magic"💀💀 casually being outqualified by the better driver Trulli. Slow coach 😜
