When people mention Messi and Ronaldo as being two of the best players ever they are not wrong. Wayne Rooney is cut from the same cloth and should not be forgotten he was a monster a prodigy a freak a once in a lifetime player from the age of 16 playing in the Premier league until his 30s you can count on one hand when he wasn't the best player on the pitch. Born to play football he was probably a good keeper too.
The best for me ever in his, he could score, pass and defend. All over the field always, and super aggressive.
So happy I'm old enough to have experienced the utd of old.. painfull to watch them theses days
What a player he was. Some players were born to play football such as Wayne. From his full debut at 16 I have never seen a more complete attacking footballer. Could do everything, had workrate, desire, technique, strength, vision, and a brilliant footballing brain.
One day he will get his flowers, for me one of the best ever.
This is the only video on youtube which truly justifies his incredible ability.

How i wish he could play for us now. NO one in United's current squad can touch him. We lack truly world class talent in our squad now.
Back then Rooney had a drive, a type of drive which could destroy the strongest of teams.
what a legend. if he took care of himself like cr7 or messi, he would be regarded as one of the best to ever play the game.
Not his fault tbh. Players like him are always good in their prime but lose legs later.
His prime lasted a decade though most players can’t do that either
He is one of the best ever. He was 16 years old playing in the Premier league until he was in his 30s he had the same natural ability as Messi the dedication of and heart of Brian Robson . He was an enigma a truly amazing football player. Born to play football if he didn't make it as a professional he would have played for his local pub. He just knew how to play football I bet he was a half decent goalkeeper as well. One of the best ever.
There's no arguing the fact that Rooney is one of the very best to have played the game. No player, past or present, is actually better than him.

Arguably Rooney had more natural god given talent than Ronaldo. Wayne Rooney is one of the all time greats. It was great to see him start his coaching career here in Washington DC!

Some excellent observations on here& it's difficult to improve!! .But i was thinking, Rooney was like a great Artist,constantly striving to create something special! U see with the goals he scored all,both feet& Head,from long shots to tap ins,from dribbling past player's,to little smart ' One two's' u name it he did it& then if he wasn't scoring or doing something special himself,he was knuckling down,defending& helping the team grind out a result! Yep thry broke the mould with this 'Dude'!
And then he went to the U.S and like Zlatan and Seb Schweinsteiger he improved the image of the expensive oversea players, whose image was suffering..And Rooney was a tremendous example!
