    Thank you - the ambiance when having one lit outside in the evening ;
    with your favorite drink and friend,
    is something everyone should experience. I love my Colemans for tasks but my kerosene for relaxing.

    Very well made video and beautiful lanterns. My favorite is the one with the blue globe. One question: were these all in working condition when you acquired them or did you have to restore some to get them working?

      The Winfield needed an air tube resoldered and the CT Ham I cleaned up quite a bit... you couldn’t tell it had the tinning still on it when I got it. Other than that I just had to add wicks and lamp oil.

    To me, 'font' is a type choice for publishing. I have no glass fount lanterns, think it's a shame they aren't made anymore. My favorite Dietz, strangely enough, is my hot blast Monarch. I love the yellower flame, will often have mine giving off soft light in my den. Great video!

    i think the fount font comes from a french word i believe to remember
    and it had to do with the ink containers for fountain pens
    as the container was the fountain and that is why it was named
    fount in these lanterns . its been years since and i cant for the life of me remember where i read it

    thank you for the informative vid... I would like to know the Quality of a New Dietz... (made in china) ... particularly the Solid Brass #76 ... is it worth what they charge ???

    • @reallanterns
      @reallanterns  Před rokem +2

      Daniel, thanks for watching. The Dietz lanterns made in China I would rate maybe a 6-7 out of 10. They are lighter weight, much due to the thinner globes. You should get good use from them though. There aren't a lot of current lantern manufacturers... Dietz, WT Kirkman, and Feuerhand would be the ones I would go with if I was going to use it. Lamplight Farms & V&O seem just a step above the real cheapy ones (Stansport, Florasense, others) which are only good for decoration. The brass means they won't rust which is probably why the premium. There are a whole lot of better quality, good burning antique ones out there one eBay, etc. if you are looking for one to burn.

    As you asked what the Fo(u)nt is called in our native languages. Here is the German Word for it:
    Brennstoffbehälter

    • @reallanterns
      @reallanterns  Před rokem +2

      I love how literal German is.. Brennstoffbehälter... "Fuel Holder". Makes sense to me :)

    • @theikomitdermaico
      @theikomitdermaico Před rokem +1

      @@reallanterns
      Even the "fuel" part (Brennstoff) can be broken down to "Brenn" and "Stoff" so literaly burning stuff 😄

    Nice video. I just recently discovered lanterns. I have a question. Are there no glass fount lanterns that are cold blast design? If not, what’s the reason? Thanks.

    • @reallanterns
      @reallanterns  Před 2 lety +1

      Bubba... that’s a great question. I never thought about it, but no there aren’t any cold blast (short globe) lanterns that I’ve ever heard of with a glass fount. Timing wise the cold blast lanterns like the Dietz D-lite really became popular around 1915-1920 at the end of the glass fount “era”. Perhaps the popularity or lower cost of the cold blast lanterns led to the switch from the glass founts.
