  • Diagnose and service or change the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor on most Fords. The engine featured is a Zetec 2.0 in a Focus Mk1, but the principle is applicable to most cars.
    Dirty or faulty MAF sensors can lead to problems with engine start, idling, other problems. It's good practice to service them by just cleaning from time to time.
    Or if faulty, it will need replacing. For the model shown try Amazon links ~

    Few years ago my Wife's Fiesta was playing up....running very badly and just doing this solved it.
    Always worth cleaning during servicing.

    Hi Craig. I have a 2008 MK 2 Ford Focus hatchback 1.6tdi. It is on a french plate as I live in France. The car we bought has been nothing but trouble, it has had a new turbo core, a mixture valve ( that sites behind the encased diesel filter) and lots of other things. We have to keep the car because we have spent so much on it. (better the devil you know).ok so now I have an orange engine warning lights again, the turbo stops working and has reduced power, and the warning says the engine malfunction ( french Engine Default ). I have just removed the air filter system to gain access to the air flow sensor. That does not seem to be too bad a condition, though the box holding the filter was pretty dirty. We took it to this mechanic who ran a diagnostic and told us it was a sensor on the other side of the engine it sits in a square housing ( tube system that seems to be the intake / outlet pipe. He gave us the part number from HELLA car parts. That Nummer he gave us was 6app 009400521. I do not see where that part fits, can you help me out, please?. The warning alarm continues constantly to go off and it's driving me crazy. The French, all they want is money and don't do any work if you could lead us to that part from a UK dealer that would be really nice of you and maybe some help on accessing the area I need to fit the part.I don't even know if it is that part.I wish I had an old mk 3 escort or something , becase these cars now days , nothing but trouble.Thanks Craig.

      I can't help you with diesels sorry I just have no experience. That Hella part # seems to be a boost pressure sensor for your turbo system - but for a Citroen not Ford (possibly it's generic). You need to get the code(s) off the car's ECU with a scan tool and see for yourself what's causing the engine light. Although, replacing the referenced part doesn't guarantee a fix of course as you need to know why it's a problem. If the sensor has actually failed and is either dead (after checking its wiring) or isn't giving a sensible readout even after cleaning, then I guess replace and clean entire air intake upstream, replace air filter, and go from there. If it's oily then you need to check PCV system as well (valve & integrity of vacuum hoses). If you get stuck in France maybe hold your nose and try a Ford dealership with a decent workshop attached, not cheap but at least they should have techs familiar with the car and easy access to the right parts. Buy a Citroen next time I guess. Good luck.

      Sorry confirming that is a generic MAP sensor and apparently suits the Ford 1.6 TDCI as well - see Ford #s down the page here - www.vehiclepartsdatabase.com/vehicles/allprivateroadvehicles/ford/cmax/16tdci/g8dd/26524/airmanifoldpressuremapsensors/hella/6pp009400521

      All I am going to say is sell it, get rid of it. Those engines are awful. I blew mine up because of faulty seals on the turbo and injectors.

    Thank you so much for your helpful videos. I’ve seen most of them and I really appreciate them. Could you please tell me where I can locate the MAF sensor on Ford FOCUS 1.8 petrol , 2007. As I am struggling to find it. I doubt actually that mine has one.
    Thank you in advance Craig.

      That's a Duratec HE engine, not the Zetec shown here. Search my other videos for Duratec or Mondeo, not a Focus but same engine. There is no MAF sensor, only a T-MAP on the front of the intake manifold. I have a few videos that cover that.

Mass air flow meater thanx

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  Před rokem

      I know the Duratec engines (Focus Mk II+) only have T-MAPS on the intake manifold, check which is your engine.

    hi thanks for the video , One question what is the "tool" called that you attached the "T20 security torx drive bit too or link to at amazon? Thanks again.

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  Před 4 lety

      It's just a ratcheting screwdriver with hex drive bits, it comes with a whole set of different bits. For just this purpose you could buy a simple T20 security torx screwdriver, or a set like mine would be more generally useful. Take your pick amzn.to/2UOr9Ju

      You would remove the -ve not +ve, but no it's not necessary, just ensure the ignition is off.
