Mary, I hope you read this... as inspirational and surreal your journey has been, your beach moment reminds me of when I was staying in an island village in the Carribbean (known for beaches of course). With only dirt floors and no nunning water, my Peace corp volunteer friend and I came across a beautiful group of kids who despite being a 17minute car ride to the ocean, they had never seen a beach in their lives. Teenagers thought their village was the entire world (before social media days). After organising transport for them, we will never forget the joy they had touching sand, being fascinated by water and being completely clueless that a wave would knock them out 😊 they had zero reference points. Hope you acquire all the reference you need at Princeton to continue to get the highest points in your life!
Choose to be around a better class of people who have goals and a forward looking life stay away from substance abuse and always known that you matter to you first in your life. And 😊
Happy to know a person got saved from low self esteem, trauma, drugs, and made an effort to break cycles in her family. Hope other people can learn to escape their own mental prisons and from real prisons. Stay safe and away from chaos. May your children achieve their own goals and not fall into self imposed limitations. Teaching them to stay strong in adversity and believe in hope and faith with some help from above. God is always with those that most need him. Amen.

Read the rest of the comments. Yours is in the significant minority. If nobody gives them a second chance, they end up with no job, back on the street, maybe back in drugs, and potentially committing more crimes to survive. Degrees and therefore jobs give people a purpose to keep living on the straight and narrow and thus contributing positively to society. Take off your blinders and look at the big picture for your own society’s sake.
