Babri demolition was very much result of Rajiv Gandhi's indifferent leadership. Muslims didn't vote congress because they believed in secular liberal values. They voted congress because they could continue to arm twist government on secular policies. Tolerance of Hindus was taken for granted. Rajiv Gandhi was forced to open Ram temple and perform shilanyas and rest is history

    2) During an election campaign, he claimed that the construction of Rama temple at ayodhya was necessary 'to save the honour of the Hindu community' (The Times of India, 13 May 1991)
    3) The compromise of 'honour' was repeated in 1998.
4)On 6 December he said, 'The project for constructing Rama temple in Ayodhya was the expression of nationalist feelings. The work has not yet been completed' (The Hindu, 7 December 2000)
    5) Since 1986, Vajpayee had tirelessly claimed that the site belonged to the Hindus and construction of a temple on it would correct a wrong done to them. (Excerpt from The Babri masjid question)
    6) On 6 April 1989, he demanded, ' Hand over the site to Hindus for that is the only solution for the Ramjanamabhimi-Babri Masjid dispute in ayodhya.' He said he spoke as a Swayamsevak of RSS and as a Hindu (Indian express, 7 April 1989)
    7) On 12 May 1991, he stressed the need for constructing the temple 'to save the honour of the Hindu community and to protect the cultural heritage of the country ' (The Times of India, 13 May 1991)
    8) On 5th December 1992, he said, 'The Central government should acquire the disputed structure at ayodhya and hand it over to VHP to construct the Rama temple there. Construction of the Rama temple at the birthplace was to consolidate cultural heritage '
    9) On 17 May 1989, he said, ' It was not possible to pin point the exact place where Rama was born thousands of years ago. The temple was built and rebuilt over the age and had existed since emperor vikramaditya's time' (The Hindustan Times, 18 May 1989

Atleast he had guts to give an interview for incident...Whereas the current PM don't even dare to say a word about incident in Manipur...what's surprising is Atalji really belived in the person who would eventually betray his trust. All in All Vajpayee is the kind of leader whom we want who are honest and atleast when something goes wrong, they take responsibility and face people and media and answer them.

AB Vajpayee was not the PM in 1992. It was PV Narasimha Rao. Vajpayee was then the leader of the Opposition. He became PM for the first time in 1996.
He was indeed a gentleman, whom critics called the Nehru of the Right Wing. He was sincere, decent and a man of principles. May his soul rest in peace. He is my only personal favourite among all the BJP leaders.

An interview way ahead of its time, especially considering the current flock don't even care or dare to give one to journalists. As much as I admire Mr Vajpayee, looking back it looks like a great political move both for the party and him. Him acknowledging it and statements like saying the party regrets it, well it turned out well for them.

The late Vajpayee , the late prime minister of India , by perchance was a claptrap. The plan for demolition of the Babri Mosque had been pte-determined on the wintry night December 1948 itself when the idol of Ram was surreptitiously installed by three extremist sages of Ayodhya. The demolition plan was premeditated and the gruesome polirician Advani vaporized the plan in parallel to Mandal Commission promulgation.
Vajpayee had been a scapegoat which he had proved himself then and there.
    1. When ordering to deport from India an English correspondent who had reported in the press that Vajpayee used to ' drink ' every night before to bed.
    2. In the same podium where he sat along with Nelson Mandela, the latter when inquired whether he could be a mediator in the Indo - Pak regarding Jammu & Kashmir , in the same podium Vajpayee repudiated openly Mr. Mandela , of his service of mediation unnecessary.
Mr. Vajpayee was just a lozenge in the hands of the Sangh Parivar.
    3. Vajpayee tried his hands during his reign as prime minister to crown with Bharat Ratna for Gokwalker and Hegdewar - the Hinutva protagonists , but was thwarted by the Opposition parties. 😅😅😅

Why don't we remember Vajpayee's double speak about Babri Masjid throughout that period? All details are given in the relevant chapter of the book written by Home Secretary, Madhav Godbole Unfinished Innings. There is the truth. Everything else is what politicians say to cover up the truth. Only V P Singh and Lalu Yadav did the right thing on the Mandir Masjid issue. Noone else. Not Rajiv Gandhi or Advani either. This is what history will write. Watch the documentary Ram ke Naam. Didn't this poor country need anything more important to do for its people than THIS to fight over?
