New FUZZ pedal from Wampler - the Fuzztration

  • Well hey hey! A new Fuzz from Wampler. This one is quite a bit more aggressive than the Velvet, and includes an independent octave circuit in it. Full 3 band EQ, two different types of fuzz (with the "tight" mode being somewhat based around BMP gain stage topology), the fuzztration picks up where the Velvet fuzz left off. If the velvet was the nice neighbor next door, then the Fuzztration would be the unruly psychopath who terrorizes the neighborhood. Hope you enjoy it! Make sure you check it out at your local retailer, or at www.wamplerpeda...

    I replaced my EHX Op-amp Big Muff and Octavix Octave Fuzz with the Wampler Fuzztration, and am very satisfied with my decision. The Fuzztration achieves the sound of both pedals, offers more tonal options, and is available at a lower price point than using the EHX pedals together. The Fuzztration also offers a very high-gain octave fuzz, reminiscent of Billy Corgan's work in the early Smashing Pumpkins, which has been hard to find.

    I own a Velvet Fuzz and am obsessed with the lead tones I get in the ‘tight’ mode! That being said....every little example on here is gold! I especially love the tele and Les Paul tones with the octave side engaged and octave only.

    I JUST bought this pedal as an early Christmas present to myself. I love love love the tone shaping ability on this thing. It sounds incredible on P-90s and gets gnarly as hell in the tight mode with the octave on. It doesn't really like to clean up with the guitars volume even on a strat. But man I can achieve almost every tone I want from a fuzz with a little tweaking. And again... The tone controls on this pedal are divine. Excellent job Brian!

  • @jasong546

    It’s funny I hadn’t heard you say that about the velvet fuzz, but I realize that is why I bought it. It could be tuned into a fairly refined raunch instead of just sputtering chaos, which I just don’t know how to use well. I think the velvet is in my top 5 favorites. With this new one, once again I think it is something I would do better with and I prefer the tones with it set to open, but I can’t describe why. It sounds more familiar I guess. I would choose this pedal now because I love that you put the switchable octave on it. It adds value, so much more than older fuzzes that are just on or off. It’s great you included a really killer octave to a really useful musical sounding fuzz. Awesome senior wampler!

    I know what I'm getting for Christmas. It sounds like a massively tweakable version of the boost function of my Triple Wreck, which I love. I still love the Velvet Fuzz; it's the only pedal I know that has the pick attack compression you get from old amps out of coulombs. But the Fuzzstration sounds like you have managed to trick out one of my favorite fuzztones of all time. It sounds like the great grandson of the Jordan Boss Tone that Randy California took the stage with in 1967 at the old Fillmore in SF running into a Sears Silvertone 2x12 and tearing down the house. I worked with RG Keen when he was at IBM in Austin to duplicate the BT sound, squelch and all (listen to Spirit's Mechanical World to hear it cut off), but we never quite got it. But several generations later, the spirit of the Boss Tone shines on.

    People who don't like fuzz don't deserve fuzz. They can't appreciate the importance of refining your sound over weeks, considering amps, pickups, strings, tonewood, etc. in order to achieve absolutely perfect tone, and then completely destroying it with a beautiful fuzz! The aural equivalent of the 'burn what you love' philosophy.
    Edited to mention how much I dig that Fuzztration, awesome sound!

Then I wanted to play the Pantheon with a Tumnus deluxe that I own and they didn’t have one, however they did have a Pinnacle. Now I’ll have a Tumnus, Pinnacle(maybe deluxe), a Fuzztration, and I’m sure I won’t walk away from the Pantheon! Damn it they’re great pedals man... • @CLaw-tb5gg
    @CLaw-tb5gg Před 5 lety

    Something I'd really love to see (which for all I know is what you've done here, but I don't think so) is a modern take on the Boss FZ-2, which is a wonderful pedal but sadly not without its problems. I think it'd be dramatically improved if an aggressive LPF was added pre-gain (which clarifies the sound a lot) and more of a mid-hump added post-gain, and the Gain II and boost modes got rid of. Even with the bass and treble on zero it's not got enough mids for my liking. Given the FZ-2 is a bit of a cult pedal these days, with prices steadily rising to match, and it hasn't been made for years people'd probably eat it up.

    • @EversonBernardes
      @EversonBernardes Před 5 lety +1

      @CLaw-tb5gg Před 5 lety +1

      @@EversonBernardes I'm surprised there isn't an FZ-2W already, especially considering that, of all things, there's a Waza Metal Zone. Which is apparently one of their highest-selling pedals, but I really doubt the sort of people buying them (read: 15-year-old metalheads in their bedrooms) are going to spring for a high-end version.

      @EversonBernardes Před 5 lety

Sounds similar to a Foxx Tone Machine on steroids. Very cool sounding pedal.
