#shorts #davematthews #music - Hudba
Dave recently said there is no deep personal meaning to the lyrics & 41 may or may not have been the 41st song
I think old age is getting to Dave because he definitely told Rolling Stone it was about his split with Ross Hoffman back when it was released 😂
@@UncleRicoOSUor he just doesn't want to bring up the conflict again especially after all this time.
I think he says that stuff to people who interview him bc he doesn’t want to get into details anymore. He’s too old for that now. He doesn’t want to get tangled into it again
The song sounds like sex.
@nicolephillips2312 he's said as much over time. I've read that he said he's not going to talk about 41 anymore, but people still has, so he either skates around it or makes something up.
Beaufort's drum work on #41 is SUPERNATURAL - Hand's down my favorite DMB track 💯
The version of #41 with Dave and Tim Reynolds’s live at Radio City is absolutely breathtaking.
I was there OMG YES
#41 it’s one of the best songs!!! First song I heard from DMB.
When I heard Two Step for the first time, I was hooked. Then #41 bled into Say Goodbye, and it was a wrap! So talented, all of the band!
Same here man 41 does somthing to me every time it’s played live
Truth is, artists change ‘what the song is about’ all of the time. The only thing that is important is what the song means to you. Artists are within their right to assign multiple meanings to one piece of art, or zero meanings… they can also change the meaning. This is what art is about. As Dave Matthew’s recently stated (he is not the first, or 41st for that matter) once art is out into the world, the artist no longer owns it. The people own it and the people determine what it means to them. That what makes art, art. You can always ponder, argue, deliberate, of just think about what ‘the song is about’ or what it means or what it meant but what only really matters is what it means to you.
Well, the artists still own it as they created it. The people possess it in a different way. I like how your essay is about the changing relationship everyone has with music.
What it means to you is correct;)
One of my favorite songs ever made
My favorite DMB song
One of my favorite songs, Carter Beauford mastery of the kit makes this song amazing
"What Dave says [in 2015 about the lyrics] contradicts what he told Rolling Stone magazine around the release of the Crash album that #41 was about a lawsuit/lost friendship w/ manager Robb Hoffman (Referenced in, "Music For The People” by Nevin Martel). Early versions of #41 were played with improv lyrics, w/o a set theme, all throughout 1995. The final version was recorded in early 1996 then released on "Crash" in May of that year."
#41 is the song that my husband and I were slow dancing to when he proposed, it was also our song for our first dance after getting married. I knew what it was about but I didn’t care, I’ve always been of the belief that a song is whatever it makes you feel and that song always made me feel love ❤️
#41 is my second favorite Dave song. Second to warehouse!
I took a piss off the roof of the then Pink Warehouse, just 8-9 days ago
It was my freshman year at U of I. (Champaign) 1995. Satellite was out. Heard that “Satellite” band Dave Matthew’s was coming to Lincoln Hall. One of those spots you take 100 classes. Then the word said he was doin an acoustic show with some guy named Tim Renolds. Always loved music. Always loved shows. Was a classically trained pianist. Then 🤯 My life has never been the same. 😊
Crazy. It's one of my favorite songs of all time and I never truly understood the lyrics till now.
favorite song of daves
DMB wrote so many amazing songs. their Central Park concert was a highlight for live performances.
It's their best show, 4sure.
I was there. Warren Haynes came out and played. I then got onto a flight the next morning and saw him play 3 nights with the Phil Lesh Quintet in San Francisco.
Always one of my favorite DMB jams the extended live versions online today are fucking magic. I was lucky enough to see one of their 1st shows at Red Rocks in '95 ..I'll Never forget it..fantastic place and show that night.
I've been a DMB fan since '92 and saw many shows in the early days, that song had so many different lyrics to it over the years, because Dave adlibbed almost all of it in the studio. Hence the reason why its not tied to any deeper meaning other than "loss".
I thought it referred to Peter Griesar. In fact, I still do.
Was that his old guitar tutor that helped him come up with new chord shapes?
A name as creative as the "dave matthews band"
Funny I discovered DMB when Satalite hit X103 when I was in the 8th grade. While I love every genre of music from country western to rap & every genre in between DMB soon became my favorite band kicking The Final Cut by Pink Floyd out of my fav album replacing it with Crash. I'm now a KRUSTY 45 LOL & still have DMB as my favorite band & #41 is my favorite song. I think like many DMB fans 41 has a significant place in our hearts that serves as a personal representation of a timeless place in our lives that will always remain there.
Why isn't this song played on the airwaves? The only song I ever hear played is Crash. So many songs by Dave should be blasted on the radio, and they are not. So sad.
#41 is my favorite dmb song❤
Having a friend or mentor betray you is far worse than lost love.
"Hoffman". Name checks out...
It's never been played well again since Boyd. Sadly, hope they are able to one play it with a new violinist.
“ooooo…. kind of as creative as the Dave Matthews Band”
It's a good song by a great artist, nothing more, nothing less. Listen and enjoy it, or don't, it's up to you. Lots of crao music being made today, way too much. Dave remains true to his music and his vision and hopefully always will. Nothing worse than when an artist sells out...
He has said he really has no idea what he was talking about in #41
My fav song
Pretty sure in the past he said he doesn't know why or what it is about.
I've always thought it sounded like a message to his childhood, but everyone interprets the meaning of music their own way and that's the beauty of it.
I always thought it was about a love relationship
The version of #41 off of "live at Luther college" might be the best version of acoustic music I've ever heard!! It's definitely the best album I've ever heard, great from beginning to end.
My favorite song
41 and grey street are my fav
Favorite dmb made sweet sounds
He said in an interview it could be about a goat. He has little idea what its about. This is foolery
That’s already disproven by Dave himself. He says he has no idea why they called it 41, or what it’s about.
Hoffman
That's exactly why God gave us Hitmen ( male or female ) 🥀
Dave gives a very clear explanation here. czcams.com/video/Lz33OZf4Yx0/video.html
live at Luther College w Tim Reynolds is an amazing acoustic performance- with a great solo by Tim.
❤❤❤❤
Dave says all the time he didn’t write it…
C'mon man ... I sing that song all the time. Look at the lyrics and this doesn't sound right at all. "I wanted to loooove you ... why won't you go in the rain, let the water fall all over you (cue the fiddle and upbeat music)" I always interpret it as a longing love song."
When a government or religion does the public wrong, the public punishes those doing us wrong.
This song is called #41 creatively as it’s the 41st song that I wrote. Kind of as creative as the Dave Matthews band.
That’s from live at Luther college????? Taking a guess bc I’ve heard those words uttered many times but can’t remember which live album lol
I wonder if any of his songs are about "the poop incident"? 😂
Don't Drink the Water
How about the biggest F u being Dave's well over 400M networth
Yeah, not the 41st song
Coran is a legend and has put Dave right where he needs to be.
Dave Matthews would seem to disagree with your claim. 🤷♂️
I miss Trax
Dave debunked this story himself … it has absolutely nothing to do with that.
This sounds suspect please give your money to charity
The song arguably gets an upgrade when you substitute Polyphia's Playing God arrangement for the original #41 chords. I have a mashup of that
Where can I find that please?!?
@@ThestuffthatSaralikes I gave it an update and it's now up! It was just acoustic guitar, now it has more of those DMB sounds czcams.com/video/iUT-gUyg1Dc/video.html&ab_channel=The90sChildMashups
41 police
Yeah this what I came here to say. How can they explain this defunct version that came before #41, something doesn’t match up here.
But Dave in an interview says he had no idea what 41 is about. Did you just make up your own explanation. Why! Read the comments and delete this bro. It’s just not true.
I know that we live in this area of explaining everything and finding the reason behind everything but please stop..Please don’t explain a song or say what a song is about, Because when you listen to a song you have a special relationship with it and you assign meaning to The lyrics and the music but not hearing that this song is about a former manager just really screws up the experience...
It is not even the 41st song they wrote. DM says this in the GQ vlog that is legit, unlike this video.
This isnt true at all and dave csn been seen essily saying its not about anything and may not be the 41st song either so
WRONG
Lol so a guy wrote crAsh about another guy ??? Not 😊
Fake video. In a recent GQ interview Dave explicitly asks for someone to tell him what #41 means, admitting the song has no real meaning and that he’s not even sure if it was their 41st song.
I would say that his interviews and sound clips from 25 years ago probably were correct in the original meaning of the song, and Dave has long forgotten it or moved on from those feelings, so he no longer attaches a particular meaning to the song. Also artists tend to get tired of talking about song meaning or stories behind songs, so they say they dont know what its about.
That’s huge speculation brother. I’m just relaying what Dave has said as of 2023. And that is that the song has no meaning. There’s nothing more to speculate.
@Philip Hopper Not really speculation that for years he told the story that is relayed in the video. Also in that GQ interview, when speaking of #41 he mentions how he likes the idea that once you put a piece of art out there, you don't own the meaning anymore. That statement lends itself to the idea that he has long forgotten the emotions behind the song. Anyway, no reason to debate, but good to talk about stuff like this.
The idea that art loses its intended meaning when you release it to the world is not a new idea and not unique to Dave.
RECENT interviews Dave talks about the song having no meaning. Why are you hinting on what he’s said in the past? You’re choosing to believe a certain narrative that directly contradicts what Dave has literally just said only a few months ago.
@Philip Hopper When looking at something you did 30 years ago, do you have a better memory of why you did what you did now, or would you have been able to better explain the circumstances 28 years ago when it was fresher in your mind? The song was written almost 30 years ago, and since that time Dave's life has completely changed in almost every aspect, and I'm sure his emotions about the song have changed. If someone asked him about something like Halloween, do you think he would go into detail about his proposal being turned down three times and being frustrated by the situation? Probably not. He would probably say something similar to what he said about #41, as he has completely moved on from that part of his life.
Point is I would think his comments about the song in the 90's were probably closer to the true meaning behind the song than his comments in one interview 30 years later after he has played the song almost 1,000 times in concert.
This is false
I can't listen to his music . I see no talent at all.
Oh so that's what you think? Okay.🤣😎✌️
@@Taylor-444 go to bed . 🤡
@@HappyLife-vh2ey Think I'll Walk Around The Moon instead 🎶🎵 😘
@@HappyLife-vh2ey troll. The band is obviously talented, even if you don’t like them. They’re like a musician’s kind of band. Same with tool, very orchestral.
👹🧌 Comments troll. Go touch grass.
One of the worst bands of all time
Yet you somehow managed to end up on a video about them. And you’re subscribed to a bunch of fascists, so carry on.
False. I rank them up there with Zeppelin, that's how good they are, or at least were at some point.
They have the highest concert ticket sales number in the USA, doubt that would be possible if they are as bad as you think.
😂
Says somebody who clearly doesn't understand what Good Music or a Great Band is, lol.
Dave is worth $300 million. Blargh.
This same scuffle is mentioned in one of the only few books to be written about DMB. Dave stated the same reasons for the song. However I did see the recent interview where he states he has no idea. I just think he’s not man enough to own his music. He’s so wishy washy.
Blargh.
Yeah this isn't true.
Right. Haha. Agree.
