As Kashmira @⁨Kashmira Rakesh Shah⁩ and I stepped onto the St. Kitts Scenic Railway, we felt a sense of anticipation for the adventure that lay ahead.
The sun shone brightly overhead, casting a warm glow on the island's lush tropical landscape.
The narrow-gauge train, a testament to the island's rich history, awaited us with open-air upper decks, perfect for taking in the vibrant scenery.

We boarded the train at Sandy Point Town, a charming village nestled on the northern part of the island.
The air was filled with a sweet, intoxicating aroma of the sea and the island's flora.
As the train began its leisurely journey, our friendly guide and host introduced themselves, ready to share the rich history and culture of St. Kitts with their captive audience. 🏘️🌊🌺
The St. Kitts Scenic Railway built between 1912 and 1926, was once a lifeline for the island's flourishing sugar industry, transporting sugar cane from the plantations to the capital city of Basseterre.
Today, it serves as a gateway to the island's past, allowing visitors to experience the breathtaking beauty of St. Kitts and learn about its fascinating history. 🕰️🌾📚
As we traveled along the 18-mile railway, we marveled at the sights that unfolded before our eyes.
The train chugged past rolling fields of sugar cane, vibrant green hills, and the majestic volcanic peaks that dominate the island's skyline.
We passed through quaint towns and villages, each with its unique charm and history.
And at each stop, our guide regaled us with stories of the island's past, from its days as a British colony to its present-day status as an independent nation. 🌋🌳🇰🇳
Our journey took us to the historic Wingfield Estate, an 18th-century sugar plantation that has been restored and preserved. As we passed it, we couldn't help but feel a deep connection to the island's history and the people who once toiled in these fields to produce the sweet cane that fueled the island's economy. 🏰🌱👩‍🌾
Another highlight of our adventure was the breathtaking Brimstone Hill Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This 17th-century fortress, built by the British to protect their interests in the Caribbean, offers stunning panoramic views of the island and the azure waters that surround it. 🏯🌅📸
Throughout the journey, we were treated to complimentary drinks, including refreshing water and - the pièce de résistance - rum! 🥤🍹
Obviously, we don’t drink alcohol so we opted for a delicious non-alcoholic virgin Piña colada.
The train was well-equipped with comfortable seats and restrooms, making for a truly enjoyable experience.

As our journey on the St. Kitts Scenic Railway came to an end, Kashmira and I disembarked at Needsmust train station, our hearts full of gratitude for the unforgettable memories we had made.

This train ride was excellent! The scenery was amazing as the heading shows. Sweet P was very funny and gave a lot information about St. Kitts. The rum was flowing every minute, LOL! If and when you visit St. Kitts, this train ride is a must. You'll have a lot of fun.
