The kacang ijo (mung bean) soup isn't really considered a "dessert." There are some Indonesian dishes that don't fall into any category, they just... exist. 😂 it's understandable they'd be put off by it if they were expecting something 'traditionally' sweet.
ps: no one says "selamat tinggal." For farewells we'll say sampai jumpa lagi (formal) or sampai ketemu lagi (informal)

kacang ijo is considered porridge category in here, not soup. if you want soup dessert street food, try sekoteng. its warm sweet ginger soup dessert with lotsa texture in it. it has diced bread in it, roasted peanuts, pacar cina (something boba sphere but diferent colour and shape), added with little condensed milk

Hallo, I would like to give some information.
First, the difference between sop and Soto is how to cook. Sop ingredients are usually cooked with the soup. So it stands to reason that all the SOP stuffing is done together. But, soto, the ingredients used are not cooked together. Certain ingredients of stuffing as cabbage and bean sprouts are often included in raw material.
The second difference is the ingredients. Almost every kind of vegetable is prepared with soup. But surely not for soto. Beans, corn, ain't fit for soto.
For example like Chicken Soup or Asparagus Soup or like Kimlo Soup.
The third difference is the taste. Sop gives a taste that is soft, not strong, and lightweight (Indonesian Chicken Soup, like the way My Mom cooked it. So light dan refreshing). As opposed to soto, the same soup as soto, it hits your tongue with a powerful flavor of spices. From one bowl of gravy, the difference was growing.
Also there's one more difference between sop and soto not knowing. Soto's presentation is always accompanied by Fried tempe, and a lot of types of sate (like sate usus or sate kulit). And the presentation of sop is usually customary.
For the Kacang Hijau, i don't think it's a dessert since i never (and have never seen any fellow Indonesian) eat that as a dessert. We eat kacang hijau as a breakfast sometimes or just like an evening snack (like i usually do at home on weekends), but never eat that as a dessert.
So, I do not think it's right to called those food as "Soup" since it isn't eventhough they share the same like texture (soupy?).
But, I do really appreaciate the effort and everything on making this video, also trully happy that you introduce some of our cuisine to your friends. Thank you so much.
May this little information can help a bit for all of us (including me) to know more about Indonesian Cuisine.
    Have a nice day

In Indonesian plating, soup is part of the main course. People generally expect savoury taste and avoid fruity or sweet things for their main course (except people from Central Java perhaps, who love their Jackfruit gudeg).
In general, our menu usually consist of cemilan / jajanan (snacks) - usually served as either appertizer or "dessert" or compliment to coffee or tea
Then direct with main course - things that can accompany carbs (usually white rice), so you eat soups by using it to flavour the bland white rice hence why Southeast Asian soups are very spicy and tasted strong. Some people drenched the rice or the carbs (e.g., glass vermicelli rice noodle on Soto) or simply splash it over their rice using the spoon. The soup is super customiseable: the garnish that Soto can have are celery, spring onion, fried shallots, or crushed garlic crackers / koya; while Rawon can feature fried shallots and bean sprouts without the sprout. They also have their spices, like their own sambal, sweet soy sauce, extra sauce, and so on. Finally, we have the crackers, either prawn crackers or the white spring onion crackers. This is why we like our soups. Each region has their own soups and even Soto. There are Soto Medan, Soto Padang, Soto Banjar, Soto Betawi, Coto Makassar, Soto Madura, and they are not always featuring chicken (ayam). The ones that you shown there is Lamongan / Ambengan style East Javan Soto.
Accompanying the main course are assorted lauk / sayuran, plated servings of dishes meant to accompany your rice just like in Chinese cuisine, featuring at least a variety of meat and a variety of vegetable. In Padang style dining, the assortments of lauk pauk is the main thing. You use the sauces the stews from the assortments like chicken gulai or rendang spices to flavour your rice. You can even have satay as part of the lauk.
In short, Indonesian main course are typically "make your own rice plating or bowl" or "do your own donburi with our menu of the day". It is in a way quite similar to Korean banchan.
After the main course, the desserts are typically fruits. Since our meal is carbohydrate-heavy, we don't normally serve sweets like cakes as dessert.
Now Mung bean soup (kacang hijau) probably can be classified as "snacks". It is probably in the same category of "drinks" when less viscous (e.g., ice kajang hijau), or as a brunch / afternoon snack when it is soup-thick consistency meant to protect your stomach from strong coffee or tea that might accompanies it.

About kacang hijau... Welp, i do agree the visuals are not really that pleasant 😂
    But the taste... 👍🏻
I also understand why there's ppl who doesn't like it, because apparently not everyone enjoyed mung bean as a desert 😐
P,S : actually... Maybe if you give them bubur beras ketan hitam (black sticky rice porridge) with coconut milk on top, 👍🏻

My soul died when they dip the bread into the kacang hijau and eat the bread like it's a normal bread. You're supposed to tear small pieces and just drown it in the soup and eat the bread together with the kacang hijau (at least this is what I always do) other Indonesians, please confirm

As for me, I don't really like bubur kacang hijau that much on it's own. For me, it needs bubur sumsum, ketan hitam, and cendil to accompany it. And don't forget the brown sugar and the coconut milk sauce.
And I'd go with a good rawon than a soto ayam 😆
