Danelectro 3699 fUZZ pedal - a classic fuzz is back!

- New for 2020! Danelectro's president, Steve Ridinger, got his start in the 70's by manufacturing the fOXX Tone Machine, the now coveted octave fuzz sound used by players like Peter Frampton, Adrian Belew, and Beck. The 3699 fUZZ is a faithful recreation, and a tribute ("3699" spells out "FOXX" on the telephone keypad, and that was the last 4 digits of the company phone number back in the day)
More details coming soon...

All the major corporate effects companies need to take note of this demo. Slick, overproduced videos reminiscent of company training videos don't sell pedals. Demos like this one sell pedals. Great demo and great sounding pedal.
Danelectro is killing it with these pedals.
Just bought a 3699 because of RJ's video made it sound so good. RJ might be my favorite guitar player/pedal demo youtuber. What a great player.
And the best looking pedal award goes to... Danelectro
Came for the tone, stayed for those amazing knobs!
Ok I’m sold. Swore to myself I wouldn’t buy another fuzz pedal... then this happened!
Lol same. I think I made it 30 secs before I bought one.
Anthony Dallarosa I’ve always wanted a Foxx Tone Machine & this is as good of a reissue as I could have hoped. Currently my favourite fuzz... I love it!
FINALLY a demo video with good production values by someone who can actually play and put a pedal through its paces! Kudos!
So many Fuzzy toys! Each with their own vibe 🥺 love them all!
Amazing harmonies, this guy is a really awesome guitar player
Love this guy's chops. On the edge and raw. Real players play, mistakes and all. Unlike so many of these "modern" hacks, he plays.
Seriously, your playing is astonishing.
The King of Fuzz Demos Strikes Gold Again!
Love to hear this with bass!
That pedal kicks ass!....I'm not much of a pedal guy usually(I use a rotovibe and a Vox wah pedal & that is IT),but I'd DEFINITELY put this in my chain.....I am diggin' all the different tones(especially the octave option).
My son just gave me a big muff fuzz for x-mas..Now I have some inspiration! Thanks RJ 👊
BASS player here, tried a Danelectro Black Coffe today, aaaaaarrrrrgghhh, I WANT THIS ONE TOO!!!!!!!
Please make a video demonstrating the concepts you use while jamming to backing tracks... The intro jam was out of the world!!!
3:51 You know it’s a good sound when you have guitar face while playing
Foxx Tone Machine in a small enclosure and with a footswitch for the octave (so more of a Fulltone Ultimate Octave feature-wise)... If I hadn't built my own from a kit already, I'd be looking hard at this. And of course... Great playing as usual!
Great playing! Great job showing all the things this baby can do. Really loving it
dat lick at 0:49 ... oh man 🥰
Good one, brother! I remember lusting after a FOXX SuperFuzz in '72 (when I was 12 lol). Their whole line at the time used colored-fuzzy exteriors, and foot-pedal 'wah'-unit chassis. Ended up with a one-knob EHX 'MuffFuzz' I still have and use (velcro'd to a Flying Vee Jr.). Great demo, as usual........
JHS just did a clone of one of those in his Legends of Fuzz series
Who else instinctively rolled the mouse wheel when the fuzz box began to scroll up the screen? But seriously, this sounds like an awesome pedal, and even though I own and LOVE the Fulltone Octave Fuzz I might just grab this.
now that's a demo done right!
Ya you SLAYED this demo man! Watched it twice jus for your killer playing an now I want the damn pedal. Perfect ad. LOL 🤦♂️🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺
Love the diminished part. Sounds nice. The French Toast distortion also by Danelectro sounds almost exactly the same...
lee gollin sane circuit
Fantastic Fuzz, been waiting for this one. RJ you are my guitar hero man, love the chops! I have been practicing the faces in the mirror too🥴
another great sounding fuzz to aquire now , you sure drove it 'til the wheels fell off !!! thnx sir .
That PRS is Dark and sweet! And single coils bright and crisp! Damn it!!! I can’t afford ANOTHER pedal!!!! But I’m getting it!!
1:17 that torn cone sound 🤘🏽🤘🏽fuzz it hard RJ 🤘🏽🤘🏽🎸🔥
They say all ya need is fuzz... but adding an octave really freqz it up good 🤘🏽
On fire in this one RJ!
Happy New Year R.J. Your channel made my 2019 measurably better. I loved the tour vlog. I stole a bunch of your licks. I do those exercises from that video. I loved being able to catch the live stream weekend morning with my coffee. These kinds of videos helped me out during a rough year.
Happy New Year Glenn! It's been my pleasure, thank you for being a part of the community.
Your playing is always incredible!!
I really dig that fuzz, sounds like it has an Octavia thing going on
It has ..an octavia
It never left. The da electro French toast is the same circuit as the tone machine. Although, this one seems to sound much better and seems more practical
It's probably the nicer version of it and more faithful I reckon. I really like my French Toast. It doesn't have the mid boost that this does though
I think I have fuzz in my ears SOUNDS GREAT RJ
Good bit of squelch and the mid boost tones it down a bit! Love the ripping Velcro sounds with the tone knob to the left it’s beefy too. Only slightly prefer the MXR la Machine feels like there is a good bit more bass in that circuit! Great review man!
Go fuzz yourself ... sounds great RJ! It's amazing how many fuzz pedals have come out over the last few years. This one I might have to pick up so I can go fuzz myself
I've built or owned clones or commercial pedals of at least 8-10 octave-up fuzzes - Tychobrahe, Mayer Octavia, Ringer, Superfuzz + derivatives, Scrambler, Kay, and others. And while the all have a certain unique charm, the Tone Machine remains my favorite, because it has the most robust and reliable octave. You never have to fight to get it.; it's just there. Of course, like ALL octave-up fuzzes, the octave is strongest when using the neck pickup with the tone rolled back, and fretting higher up the neck (though I've found a few tricks to get decent octaves from the 4th fret and up). BUT, like all octave fuzzes, if you pick close to the bridge, using the bridge pickup, with the drive rolled back a bit, you can also get a great mimic of a Coral Electric Sitar!
Just finished repairing a vintage Roger Mayer Octavia in the "spaceship" case for a friend, 15 minutes ago. The 3699 kicks its butt up and down the block.
Similar circuit as the French Toast, but I can assure you, the build quality will be better! Great demo and tones RJ
This pedal looks and sounds incredible….got mine the other day, really versatile….
Not sure why but it reminds me of Burning Water stuff. Got to love Landau and that octave fuzz circa 1991 (give or take a few years). 🤘
I try to explain to my wife the difference between Octave and regular fuzz and why I need one more but wtf does she know
I feel you brother!! BELIEVE THAT!!
Preach!! Yeah, I stopped trying years ago.. Maybe if I have her watch this video she will understand. One can only hope...
eric moser , yeah but then you’d have to show her videos of other Fuzz’s !!! It’ll never end!!! Lol good luck man
eric moser then she’ll say “ look honey here’s a JOYO fuzz and it’s only $25!!!
@@STETTRACE I actually took my Joyo Voodoo Octave fuzz apart and fixed the problems inside (they had a couple caps set up wrong - see forums for details).
It sounds OK but it is so seriously noisy/hissy it's almost unusable IMHO.
Awesome playing RJ. Had to play some guitar right after watching, thanks for the inspiration.
You are also a gold standard in u tube demos.ur playing is great and also the tone.*****
Great GarageRock-fuzz!!
Nice stuff. I'm still using my Large foot print fab tone, cool cat Dan echo and over drive love Dan electro
WOW, nice pedal & great demo of it R.J sir !!
Every damn time... How many pedals am I gonna buy because of you man? You think I can afford it?? I taught so...
Love this pedal. Its very unforgiving though. I feel like any mistake made or even just getting a little bit sloppy stands out way more when using it. It makes me play very deliberately and think a few moves ahead of myself.
Need this. Need this right now.
Just pulled the trigger! Rj what I you doing with me? 🤣! Sounds gorgeous!Demo just comes right! I Wass looking to replace my 2nd Fuzz on the board (a DOD Carcosa) which is too noisy! The Danelectro has that certain squishy tone and the option of the Octavia! This would a good alternative to my Fuzz Face style Fuzz on the board!
Solos staying right behind those beautiful chord changes that you like to use as usual. And making old new again. That will make any fuzz sound good. But good fuzz for sure.
I’m sold.
Great pedal, own one myself. For me it helps get that great Doyle Bramhall tone that seems so elusive .
Best octave fuzz I’ve ever owned!
nice shirt, great band, and an awesome guitarist. and the same to you too!
Awesome "fuzzy" sound and of course great playing.. I need to "borrow" some licks from u :p
This pedal sounds great
Happy Nu Year RJ! Manigong Bagong Taon sa yo at sa iyong mahal sa buhay!
best knob switching example of tones etc. !!!
Amazing sound and playing
Smooth as silk! Nice!
Which one of your backing tracks is this?! So good.
Extremely excited about this! I’ve been on an octave fuzz quest ever since I found a vintage Fender Blender in a shop in Seattle this fall. I’m afraid to tour with it-so old!-so I’ve been looking for a modern octave fuzz that gets in the ballpark (and ideally has some utility). Is this silicon?
This is essentially a Foxx tone bender fuzz with a switchable octave. Not sure about the specs but I'm sure they're available online
@@fillmorejives2284 Did some googling. Most sites seem to suggest the original had germanium diodes... Looking forward to hearing this reissue!
I love your vids man! You're one of my favorite CZcamsrs man. Keep it up!
#guitarplayinggoals
RJ is awesome. I wish he would talk more. He inspired me to experiment with my studio rig quite a bit and I give him credit for improving my sound 100%
@@fredmanteghian5913 For sure! Wish I could play close to as well as he does!
@@Rooster7six You and me both!
Great demo RJ
Do we really need another fuzz....hell yes!😁♥️🤣
Does a bear crank it to 10 in the woods?!
We need affordable good ones! This is still ~$200, that's half what the cheapest fOXX is going for
Wow... on every level...
Out Fn STANDING RJ. The first 2:58 were AWSOME. I don't care how good the pedal is I would sound like a bad chainsaw.
Just got one today on the back of this video! Awesome pedal, but still can’t make it sound as good as R.J.!😆
Not a bad sound in there!!
Great tone
Mosrite Danelectro a lo Johny Ramone
Yeah
Playng bossa in eletric guitar man
Escute a guitarra brasileira de Mutantes
If you want to save $100, the same circuit is in the Dan Electro French Toast pedal. You are welcome.
Love your demos RJ but wish you explain some of the functionality of the pedals instead of just playing but I guess other utubers do that tho so all good Great playing as usual
I use to use an Octavia but it would blow the 25W Greenbacks on my Marshall. Maybe this pedal wouldn't do that. Great demo, R.J.
Sounds like this takes chords well/ better than other Fuzz/ octave pedals?🤘🏾👍🏾🔥🔥yo the demo is KILLING it🤘🏾🎸💥
So I need help deciding which fuzz to buy. I really love the Robert Shoe but can't get in contact with them. Then there are the Danelectro and 3669. Which one would be the best one to own?
I feel your mojo!
Nice demo R,J, what's your thoughts on that Lipstick Humbucker in the bridge paired with the P-90 bucker in the neck in your personal opinion ( personally I love it ! ), Thx
Senor Blues!
Finally!
Sounds like a Robert Rodriguez soundtrack. Or Davie Allan and the Arrows. ❤😂🎉 thanks
I know danelectro keeps the prices good but if its at the right price I might buy 2
marcus nunes lol, these new dano pedals are 100+
@@Morningstar_Actual 200 which is about normal for some fuzz pedals, some used ones should hit reverb in a few months. I wanted a foxx and this is the best reissue. The guy who runs danelectro now is the one who designed the original foxx
marcus nunes yeah, he’s owned the company for years. Really cool guy, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him once
With the guitar faces already.
Fantastic Playing and Solo Style. Could you elaborate a little bit about what key and scale the solo was? Thank You.
1:20 lol nice!
What guitar do you use in this video? Please answer🙏🙏
So much goddamn funky vibe!!
...When you combine RJ's fingers and this here Fuzz Box. Funky vibe.. 🤨🎸
Can you please tell me the reference for the first guitar you played
I want that pedal and then we'll play around Saturn's rings.
I must have that.
i have a danno french toast. this looks like they tweaked the hell outta it. i mean really i'm just happy they put a damn LED in it lol.
Soo good. I own a couple of Foxx clones, but reckon this guy trumps them all. Great demo!
@@JustenStoodley not sure this counts as a clone so much as an upgrade. the guy that made the original foxx tone machine now owns danelectro. ;)
yesssssssss
Do you know if these were built with analog through hole or are they surface mount components? Or if anyone knows. Just curious. Sounds great though!
The octave part of this kinda sucks tbh... But I LOVE the new DanElectro Back Talk pedal.. idk if you've reviewed it yet, but you should.. very nice hendrix stuff with it.
groovy man!!
Hi R.J your guitar tone sounds like Smashmouth then Morning comes
Sounds like they got it right this time. That damn french toast was horrible unless you ran it through an analog 4 track to saturate the syrup
i have a french toast. really the only thing wrong with it is they forgot to put an LED in it for some reason lol. this is a serious upgrade tho.
@@kewlbns69 I've built a few Tone Machine clones to original specs, and also own a French Toast. The French Toast is an *excellent* and accurate repro of the original. What it lacks, however, that the 3699 provides, is a footswitch for the octave, instead of a toggle, which is a nice convenience. Now, whether one's aim is accurate enough to hit the stompswitch without accidentally hitting bypass is a whole other can of beans. As well, I gather the 3699 uses true bypass switching (though appearances can be deceiving), instead of e-switching like the Toast. Meh, they both have their advantages and shortcomings.
All of that said, as per usual, RJ shows the pedal's capabilities off quite nicely. He makes everything sound good.
@@markhammer643 true bypass is a gimmick. which is why everybody went out and bought buffer pedals last year lol. the reason the french toast is accurate is probably because the guy that built the original foxx tone machine, bought/owned danelectro and decided to re-release it under the dano brand. there's a lotta kewl "upgrades" in this thing but i'm not completely sure it's worth 8x the price lol. hey while you're here...any idea how to put a freakin LED in this thing? hahaha!
@@kewlbns69 TB was a response to the use of SPDT pedals of the past that would load down the signal like crazy. And, as a guy who makes pretty much all my own pedals for the past 40 years, I have to say I appreciate the ease of using 3PDT stompswitches, and tip my hat to Mike Fuller for getting their mass production started (he's the guy responsible). I *could* buy DPDT stompswitches 30 years ago, but they would cost $20, were bulky, and still couldn't provide indicator LED illumination. That didn't matter quite as much when you had but 3-4 pedals (although the cost hurt). However it started to matter a lot more when the pedalboard now starts to carry 10-12.
RE: led for French Toast. It's doable, as it would be with any pedal using e-switching and a flip-flop of some sort. However, the chassis is not exactly hospitable to such mods, and given the nature of your question, I suspect it would take a rather lengthy explanation on my part. This is probably not the place for it. I will suggest you go to the DIYstompbox forum ( www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php ), and pose your question there. Very friendly and knowledgeable group, who I'm confident could guide you through it...if it hasn't been addressed in a past thread already.
@@markhammer643 been there done that even did the fb thing. nobody seems to know. they all just unanimously think danelectro is cheap trash tho lol. and anyway i'm busy developing an arduino based hand driven midi circuit so i can run a wah through vst software. the LED on the french toast is less of an issue atm i just thought maybe you'd know something.
How does it compare to the eisenhower? Will you do a octave comparison?
