What's YOUR favorite Sonic hub world?
STARION SQUARREEEE
Chao garden
Sonic adventure
Hmmm, I don’t know to be honest. Maybe like Adventure and a few hub worlds that I know.
Station Square is the Goat!
Fun fact: *The train to the Mystic Ruins will be departing soon*
Lol i might sound like a nerd but its not "The train to" its "The train heading to"
@@exterm1nator19 I was tired when I made the comment,so I didn't really watch out if I missed anything. But I do know it is "The Train heading to"
@@exterm1nator19virgin
@@brawlsonic18 good one. 🤣🤣🤣
The Train heading to Station Square will be departing soon.
I would love for the hub worlds to come back. Imagine having one where when you go a certain path you enter an open zone and then a different path will lead you to a different open zone. That would be so cool!
he said dick! idrc but its funny
It's confirmed that there will be a hub world in Superstars! Altough it is 2D and not 3D
@@ThisisTheUltimatereally? cool!
@@ThisisTheUltimate That's good. But imagine if they were 3D something like Sonic Jam.
@@mauken-dyn6685oooh that would have been so cool but I’m happy their gonna be back and hoping that they are gonna be fun to explore 🥰
I always loved the homey "lived in" feel of Station Square. Genuinely wanted to stay at that hotel.
Sonic Unleash’s Hub world is definitely my favorite Game Hub World of all time due to the real world influences it has within each location while also having that Pixar art style to help it look like Sonic’s World. Also I enjoyed how each npc had their own personality/life style
100% man sa1's hubworld lack town missions too whichis why is part of the reason i like unleashed's hubworld more
It terms of explorationand gameplay i like sonic adventure better but it gets boring at times unlike unleashed which i like for its graphics and details and the way you can interact with npcs and buy food and all it seemed cool like a regular human life
19:46 actually Spagonia is inspired by the city of Siena in italy, most of the npcs have italian names and the clock tower is inspired by "Torre del mangia" bell tower in Siena
Like how can you not get Italy vibes from that place? 🤯🤦🏻♂️
I would say Western Europe
Yeah it’s definitely Italy lol. The music, the NPCs, the architecture… I’m a little perplexed as to where France came from lol
I think it's Western Europe setting, with heavy Italian influence. Just talk to the npcs and they all have Italian names.
I always thought the university was the Sorbonne (France) and the clock tower the Big Ben, while the giant acqueducts are from a city in Spain, I recall someone saying... But the squares and the alleyways feel like walking in Siena.
@@ADHDkid321hes an uncultured swine for sure, he literally says the US is known for school shootings💀. The US is actually culturally diverse and is known for being the land of the free.
I love the Mystic Ruins, like... So much. The music, the levels, seeing Angel Island and Tails House, the Eggman base showing up near the end, with the searchlights and hidden Metal Sonic... Just so cool.
I love how frontiers has open zones sure, but hub worlds will always have a special place in my heart
Yeah, maybe they should make another frontiers like game in the future, but make it more hub-world ish by adding more color and details and live looking npcs as well as sonic interacting with the environment in a good way and stuff
That would be peak@@SonicTheBlueBlur15
I mean these are abandoned ancient civilization islands so not supposed to have those but it feels so good just fighting in the places that once had them inhabited by the civilization, like fighting above ruins of a Ancient City.
There's a Hub World in Eggmanland, it's very small, but I think it's still worth talking about. There's 3 robots you can talk to and each of their names are based on a console.
EF-MD1991 - Mega Drive 1991
EF-DC1998 - Dreamcast 1998
EF-XB2006 - Xbox (360) 2006
Wait, why is xbox in a sonic game?
@@SonicTheBlueBlur15 my guess is it marks the debut of Sonic 06, which is the debut of "modern sonic"
5:38 According to Sonic Adventure's field artist, Satoshi Okano, that poster depicts a female spider character that went unused, so he decided to reuse the design for decoration. There are also billboard versions of those posters of her in Speed Highway's "At Dawn" section, which give a slightly clearer image of how she's supposed to look.
I know some people don’t like the werehog stages, but if you think about it, unleashed is probably one of the most finished sonic games since the classic games. Which is one of the reasons why I love this game.
Yea man the werehog levels are actually really well designed. Play a mod that gives you the option to shut off the music and it gets rid of 90% of the problems for me with the werehog
unless you were like me and played it on the wii. man what a difference it makes
Hub worlds are such an iconic staple, especially those that reward you for exploring and evolve over the course of the game, plus Sonic being speed based isn’t a reason to not have hubs, it’s a good reason to just stop and take a breath really, plus Sonic being fast can at least make hubs easy to navigate for those who don’t want to bother.
It's a shame frontiers didn't have a hub world, it would have made that game even more expansive.
@@justinarzola4584💀
Somecallmejohny would strongly disagree lol
@@justinarzola4584 how would a “hub world” even work
@@Nic_2751 I dunno, maybe create more city like levels that have citizens around the towns.
I always loved the immersion of being able to walk to levels in sonic adventure. i hope they bring them back because now with rtx they could look even more beautiful
frontiers, open-zones, they might not be the main stages but the open-zone technically is like a hub, it leads to levels and bosses
@@vinychart5006The open zones in Frontiers are so dull looking though. Borderline default unity maps.
@@HOTD108_ This was my thought exactly. Adventure's hub worlds weren't nearly as big, but they managed to feel much more alive. I get the point of Frontiers being an abandoned world, but still - it was more fun for me to explore the worlds of Sonic Adventure as a kid because of that.
@@HOTD108_i mean, it could have worked a lot better with momentum, but yeah it does look kind of bland
@@HOTD108_ I really wish they didn't go the Cyberspace route in frontiers, the random platforms with no real theme floating around is also quite unappealing to look at.
It took me a lot longer to beat Sonic Adventure compared to it's sequel (which was one of the first games I ever completed). One thing I would always pop-in the disc for however was the Station Square and Mystic Ruins hub worlds, they were really nice to explore despite me only having access to the most basic iterations with just Sonic and Tails. I was trying to figure out how to unlock the next level, find a non-existant power-up or just goofing around in the city or forest maze before putting another game on. It's a equally fond yet frustrating memeory.
Sonic Unleashed has some of my favorite hub worlds. I always enjoy speaking with the locals and exploring the back alleys or side streets of each locale looking for secrets. Plus, the hub worlds help with the immersion that each continent is inhabited by people with different cultures and lives.
And the music made me feel like I was actually there with Sonic and friends! Chun-Nan at night seriously is one of my favorite Video Game Songs of all time!!
SonicHub worlds
Eyyy Its the GOAT himself.
Bruuuuuuuuh
That wasn’t bad tho
Only 11 likes ????
Nice
Without a doubt, all of Unleasheds hub worlds are my favourite. I remember originally playing the PS2 version and then playinh the 360 version later and being blown away by the hun worlds in the 360 version.
Everything from the design of each town and its characters to the music to the atmosphere is amazing. I love how each theme helps define each hub worlds vibe and just the fact that each hub world (and even level) have their own separate themes for day and night is incredible with day themes being more energetic and lively and night themes being more chill, relaxed and laid back.
Visiting the hub worlds in Unleashed and meeting all of Unleashed's lively and unique townfolk helped immerse me in the story, made me feel like im on an actual adventure with Chip and made me care for the world I was saving in Unleashed. Truly peak
❤ i agree man
The red and green poster is a cut spider female antagonist for the game that you can find posters also in speed highway. She made it through the rendering phase but was cut from the game.
The fact that you opened this video using Pioneer 2's music is such a nice nod to another Sonic Team game and slapped me with another wave of nostalgia I wasn't expecting. And in a world where people think it's cool and quirky to shit on Sonic's hub worlds, it's really nice to see there's other long time fans out there that are celebrating them instead. The amount of time I spent running around in Mystic Ruins or even Apotos is unreal. To me, Sonic Frontiers felt like a whole game built in one of the hub worlds I grew up loving and I hope we see the concept of hub worlds return fully in future titles.
8:52 Getting that spindash jump to unlock sand hill as sonic was very satisfying lol
I love your inclusion of the Phantasy Star Online "Pioneer II" hub world music for this video!
You certainly can't go wrong with a good hub world. It's a bit of a lost art if you ask me. The Open Zones in Frontiers seem to be the closest thing we get to a traditional hub. As for my favorite hub, It's a basic pick, but it's Station Square form SA1.
Hub worlds are YES WORLDS
Hub worlds are long overdue for a comeback. It would work so well with Frontiers’ style
Whatever you think about the hub worlds, they all have good music, especially in Unleashed where it's remixed between day and night. Chun-nan is definitely my favorite. Central City is also awesome.
The instant Pioneer 2 music to start the video hit me like a brick, I love PSO so much
Personally, 3D hub worlds in Sonic have been kinda annoying in my experience, when I play Sonic games I've tended to mostly be in for the core gameplay and getting lost in the hub worlds when looking for the next objective would be obtrusive. But I have gained appreciation for their immersion, attention to detail and beauty, especially with age. I imagine that in a game with proper map markers or objective reminders like what Frontiers had, hub worlds could be easier to navigate while preserving their charm
The map screen in SA2 is still pretty cool. I always liked looking at all the little details like the grind rails underneath the Ark or that island in the bottom left that left me baffled for years until I unlocked green hill.
The hub world's in games always amuse me and the sonic games are no exception
I've always loved the Unleashed hub worlds the most because it has the most and gives the most life to the game out of all the other hub worlds. Adventures hub worlds are still amazing too and 06's are alright in my opinion. They felt too big and had the least amount of life even though Adventure came before it and Unleashed came out 2 years later. I consider Frontiers' Starfall Islands as hub worlds too even though it's the main part of the game but the vibe you get of exploring and taking in scenary feels very similar to Adventure or Unleashed. Sometimes I would just look for high points of the maps just to sit on top and slowly pan the camera around while listening to the music, it felt very very special.
I appreciate the phantasy star online menu music at the start 🎉
"Yes I had a lot of free time as a kid"
"Eggman must have some insane pull" 🤣🤣
Thank you for remembering Sonic Battle's hub worlds 🙏🏿 Emerald Town is one of my favorite themes
Unleashed will likely always be my favorite sonic game because I played the 360 version some years after the ps2 version (I think i played it after generations even)
And it didnt just feel like another version. it felt like an entire remake on a similar level to ff7r. Absolutely blew me away. i remember the absolute joy i had when I realized you could actually walk around the locations now and seeing all the details put into it
Amazing thumbnail. Also if you are curious, my favourite hub world in any game is Delfino Plaza from Super Mario Sunshine (and Starship Mario from Super Mario Galaxy 2 is my second favourite) and for my favourite hub world in a Sonic game it's probably Sonic Generations because of the cool stuff you can do in them (I haven't played Adventure, 06 or Unleashed).
That was a nice video on hub worlds. I'm surprised you didn't talk about Eggman Land when talking about Sonic Unleashed's hub worlds. I'd also say that Sonic Lost World's map and the Gaia temples from the Wii/PS2 versions of Sonic Unleashed deserve honorable mentions, too.
I'm not sure what my favorite hub world is, maybe Apotos. I also like Soleana Forest, but I'd probably say that's my second favorite.
Oh boy, how my favorite hub world is THE ENTIRETY OF FRONTIERS
I LOVE HUB WORLDS IN SONIC! Thank you for the video, Chaomix! 🙏
Its a great thing the open Zones are just hubworlds with more to do in them then huh? Can't wait to see the evolution of open zone formula now. Great video. Its honestly kind of funny how all my favorite sonic games have hub worlds.
Sonic Adventures' hub worlds are amazing. I still have dreams where I explore those worlds and find a secret areas with additional boss fights or something like that)
Hub Worlds are really fun when they can add the the game and story in meaningful ways.
I know a bunch of people say that SA2 should have hub worlds and is worse for not having them, but for SA2’s all-around-the-world adventure and go-go-go type story, it doesn’t work that easily.
But games like SA1 are fun because they make the game work around it. The egg carrier has a bunch of secrets to find and the whole transformation, you get to see characters take the train to travel, you even get to see Tails’s lab! The story as a result becomes very relaxed though since you can easily get distracted but it’s a good distraction. I only wish there were more Chao Eggs to find because I’m insane lol
crazy how unleashed is about a "all-around-the-world adventure" but still has hub worlds, there is no excuses for sa2 not having hub but sa1 does.
@@SafalmaoHalf of SA2's story is literally on a timer until the earth blows up, of course it won't have sections where you can rest. The concept of HUB worlds just doesn't work with SA2's pacing and story
of course..
he has no time for walking around, but he has time to walk around and level up chao?? like bru use ur brain.@@HruMan360
@@Safalmao The Chao keys are way easier to take as "just a game mechanic" than talking to people in HUBs for me, since the Chao stuff is so disconnected from everything else while the HUBs are a part of the game to make you feel you immersed in the game's world
@@HruMan360 bruv, "just a game mechanic" and " a part of the game to make you feel you immersed in the game's world" are the same exact thing, you're just being silly now.
My favorite thing to do in SA1 was just picking Knuckles and glide from the top of the ruin pyramid to outside the cliff until he lands on the edge.
Hub worlds are fun because they allow you to just have fun running around and exploring stuff and not have to worry too much on what you need to do…I really enjoy Unleashed because of how diverse and different each one is and how distinct they are up close.
I enjoyed the tour of hub world @Chaomix
I think the Eggmanland hub from unleshsed is the best purely because you can talk to the Egg Fighters
It's so funny. When I played sonic adventure as a kid I thought the world was huge and had all these secrets but after playing it a couple months ago I can see how wrong I was. I still love them but I just find it funny how big things seemed back then
“this place looks as cold as my ex’s heart”💀💀
Keep up the awesome work and videos chaomix love the video
Note, Sonic Unleashed only had the free roaming hub worlds in the 360/PS3 ports. If you were playing on the Wii port… you just got a static image and a point and click.
Congrats on 100K Chaomix 🎉
Hey Chaomix, first! I love the new style for Sonic in the thumbnail. Also about the hub worlds my fav Hub World is Sonic Unleashed or Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) hub worlds. So many people to talk to as you explore to new stages.
21:34 "this place looks as cold as my ex's heart" jesus man im here for u
The PSO music is just too perfect. One of the best hub worlds of all time
Sonic unleashed has my favorite hubs
Way past cool! And I did leave a fat like 👍🏾
I went to Greece in summer 2021 and the apotos segment of this video reminded me of the fun I had there.
Dude, Phantasy Star Online hub music for the start? Iconic. Great choice.
Welcome to Station Square!
Holoska at night with that music is the most beautiful hub world imo
sonic hub worlds are truly smthn special
Adventures hub was so informational and fun, I'll always go back to the newspaper lady when i hop into a load after being gone for a while to get brought up to date.
You forget to mention a very important detail about Sonic 2006, the Town missions, it added to the immersion to have missions by the NPC.
I like also that some NPC had stories that as you progress through the story you get new information about their stories, such as the mother and daughter shopping, the university female student and guy who had a crush on her and stalking her, the father that made silly jokes and daughter. Mother and son that was away but later came back to take care of his mother, the 2 kids that would patrol and role play. The 2 kids that were a couple (where he wanted to rescue princess and she was overly jealous. The old man that was childhood friend with Lord Regis that hanged with his daughter. The solearean kids. Sonic Man. The guy that braged about been a strong karate master that would had many girls he would protect. The princess aides that you would do missions with and many others.
The New City does not have cars, I believe is that they planned to add cars but since the game was rushed and it was during the merge of Sammy with Sega it was one of the worse times to develop a game.
They also removed the night/day cycle which is sad considering that soleana looks so beautiful at night (you can only see it with a mod. (There is also a beautiful Christmas mod of 2006).
Since many people quit, game studios were closed down and many games cancelled. Some of the town missions have cars in them so that means they did made them but ended up not implementing them, same with the gondoliers boats that were available to ride on in one of the town missions.
I also think they planned to add a train ride too and not just level but was cut off as well. Sonic 2006 is a tragedy since it had potential to surpass sonic adventure. Yet due to been rushed, budget cuts, team been reduced by half to make sonic secret rings
and influential people from Sonic team that leave the company after Sammy forced merge we never got the true vision that they planned for Sonic 2006.
Can’t wait for more great content!
Awesome Deep Dive into all of the Sonic Hub Worlds, especially Sonic Jam’s Sonic World, it’s a shame not many Sonic Fans can experience that one since it’s exclusively on Sega Saturn but with that aside,
Station Square, Mystic Ruins and Egg Carrier are my absolute favorite hub worlds, I won’t hide my bias since SA1 was one of my first Sonic Games, the Atmosphere, Music and City Folk really make them all very memorable, I’m a New Yorker and whenever I’m in Downtown Manhattan or riding the Trains, I always have the Station Square Music playing in my head!🗽🌃
My favorite sonic content channel drops another banger 🔥 the hub worlds are my favorite part of sonic games
Always wanted a video on this topic
When you finish sonic unleashed you can come back to eggmanland and walk around the entrance with the big gold eggman statue
9:06 fun fact that rock wall is actually the lower half of Angel island that crashed into the mystic ruins
Because Sonic adventure 2 was my first ever 3D Sonic game I can officially say that the a chao guarded was the best experience for me
meanwhile I gained nothing from the video except that the flintstones running sound effect over the Sonic 06 mach speed sections will go on to live rent free in my head
21:33 casually drops choamix lore
the pso music just hit me in ways i didn't expect
Honestly, white space should have changed based in character being used. This would give more purpose to switching, as classic sonic would use this hub world, and would have easier access to the levels, but morden sonic could have more challenges and better access to the shop with it being in the center.
You forgot a hub world, eggmanland has a hub world that can be accessed after beating the game, there aren’t any extra levels, but there are hot dog challenges
18:00 I remember when I was a kid I’d keep getting Tails to fall into the water for shits and giggles but at a certain point he just straight up died. like upon respawning he weakly cried out “sonic…” and just laid there motionless
Sonic Hub Globes were serene and relaxing in my eyes. 🤍
Sonic Hub Worlds는 내 눈에 고요하고 편안했습니다.
Advance 3 😊 I love the hub world
your videos make me feel good inside
You got that PatMac energy and I like it.
My favourite hub world are from sonic unleashed. And the art from the thumbhail is FIRE 🔥 Bro
22:46 can you all stop?
Just because it has Saxophone, doesn't automatically makes it jazzy.
No need to be rude about it. Dang.
@@RoshiBro08 well sorry, that as a Saxophone user, I don't like, when every music, that has saxophone in it called Jazz, because it undermines actual jazz music, like in case of Empire city, or night songs of many levels
Rush Adventure's island hub is kind of neat
Hell yes to the PSO hub world theme - amazing game
when chaomix uploads you know its boutta be a W day
14:15 this made me remember seeing the burger guy NPC in Adventure spinning in a circle recently lmao
That green and red poster you mentioned in the burger shop is actually a weird, possibly scrapped, spider character!
The sonic 06 running animation with cartoon running sounds mix surprisingly well
13:44 "Hello Sonic, I am way too much animated"
Just discovered Jam myself and I was super impressed with the hub world
Just in time for me to watch this while I eat lunch lets go.
I can’t be the only one who role played in the sonic hub worlds as a kid
Station square, Mystic ruins and all of the sonic frontier hub worlds
The thumbnail is really good
13:45 HOLY SHIT ITS RYAN GOSLING!!! I AM LITERALLY IN A SONIC GAME OMG
Sonic superstars will have a hubworld!
I’ve missed hub worlds since SA2. It was so fun to fool around in SA1 to find things or break the game.
Hub worlds are so much fun when you have free time to explore in every sonic games from Sonic Adventure 1&2, Sonic 06, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Generations, and Sonic Frontiers. ✨
Adventure 2 DOESN'NT have a world hub
I never got to play the full version of Sonic Unleashed, I remember just playing the Demo multiple times for hours on end. I had no idea it had hub worlds and that they were this gorgeous!
Bro buy thr game and play its amazing
respect for using the OST for Pioneer 2 ✨️✨️✨️
Man I still remember playing Sonic Adventure
playing Sonic daily life in Station Square imagining his interactions with all his people, visiting Tails
In spite of everything do I think you still under sold the Hub's of SA1.
The hub worlds level entrances are also lay out that they perfectly flow into the stages making these wacky action stages really feel like they are part of the same world as the hub worlds (especially the 2 entrances to Speed Highway).
The NPC's have updated dialogue for basically everything with quite a few stories that happen with in them during the story like the Girl that is in love with the Burger sales man, the gambling addicted mother or the dude that dates 2 different girls at ones.
And one detail I love since I learned it you can literally see Angle Island as a giant stone that doesn't fit in at all by looking at it from Tails workshop.
One issue I have with Unleashed hubs is actually how the area with NPC's and the one with platforming segments is pretty rigidly separated making it all feel even more disjointed than the teleport level entrances already did.
Also if Battle from the GBA and Generations White Void gets to be here why no love for Advance 3's hub worlds?
And now we have Sonic Superstars Hub world, which is very inspired on Sonic Generations Hub World
