I think he didn't mean they can transfer genes at that age .. genes are immortal, we're mortal, we're the vehicles / machines that make sure the genes that we carry survive forever. A grandmother/mother would want their genes to survive forever and the survival of their grandchildren/ children is very important for that purpose.. so they are automatically concerned for the safety of their children or grandchildren..
