    Years ago, I worked at a parts store. I was sent to deliver parts to a local shop. When I walked in, there was an insanely clean first gen S10 sitting in the shop with the little 2.8L torn down to the block. I commented on how clean it was, and the guy said "Yeah, too bad the owner's a dumbass". Then he told me he had to replace the driver side head, because the owner had cross threaded one of the spark plugs when doing a tune up. Instead of fixing it the correct way, the owner used a regular helicoil to put a (incorrect) spark plug in it. That blew out shortly after, so the owner and his buddy decided to remove the remainder of the destroyed helicoil, and just JB Weld the plug in the hole. Then the owner decided to rev the engine, and the spark plug fired out, ricocheted off some stuff under the hood, and smacked his buddy square in the forehead. I would've paid money to see that.

    That JB Weld cylinder was on a two stroke engine, meaning he didn't need to figure out valves and whatnot. Also my guess for how he made it was that he made a mold and put a cardboard tube in the middle and the appropriate bits for the ports from the crankcase and for the exhaust, filled it with JB Weld, then removed the bits for the ports and cylinder then honed the cylinder to make it smooth.

    I got two stories where JB weld saved projects.
    First story, my brother was building a 318 dodge to put in his first car ('78 aspen) and misread the torque for the harmonic balancer as In lbs not ft lbs and tore the threads out of the crankshaft, he and my dad took the crank bolt slathered it with JB weld and put as much in the crank hole as they could. They then put the bolt in and snugged it down. next day they tightened it a little (not full torque specs but tightened it up a bit) , the completed engine run for 5 or 6 years till a water pump bolt come loose and leaked water into the engine (killed the rods and mains). we took it apart and removed the crank bolt and what was left was perfect threads that never broke. By brother built that engine from my dad's junkpile so it was already going to be eventually scrapped, so no loss if it failed. BTW this was early 1990's
    Second story, my hobby is RC cars and this was in the mid 2000's when Brushless motors and esc's were starting to redefine the power and efficiency of electrics. Anyways, i had a motor that started slipping and vibrating, so took it apart, the magnet was separated from the shaft I took JB weld and packed the hole in the magnet (cleaned it first of course) . set it to the proper spacing and set over night worked perfectly ever since

    The JB weld on the tailgate can be found on “lakeside auto body”. You can find it on CZcams, he is an actual body guy. (Hence you guys noting that he had tools and seemed to know what he was doing and him doing a good job) he was making a rust repair video for those who do not have a welder to show that you can use JB weld in some scenarios depending on how major the rust is. (You can see he removed all the rust) so the repair won’t fail. It’s similar to if someone used a panel bold for the same repair. It is okay

    The axle/3rd member shown starting at 7:58 is from a Toyota truck, likely an 00-06 Tundra/01-07 Sequoia. The diff unbolts from the front and the rear "cover" is permanently attached to the axle housing. The rear "cover" is thin stamped metal and gets pinhole leaks over time as they rust. You can get a weld-on replacement, swap the entire axle assembly, or apparently, goober it all up with JB Weld and send it!

      I used jb weld on my 05 tundra. But maybe the amount of a size of a pea. Prepped painted. Those Toyotas rusted out so bad underneath. 70k in mine and patched frame. Toyota sprayed it for the recall... So it's a summer truck now

    One of my favorite fixes on a motorcycle I own, is literally the suggested fix by even the experts that work on them - because there never was a recall or official fix. The Suzuki SV1000 (big brother to the SV650), made between 03-07 is prone to running significantly warmer internal temps than the smaller 650 configuration. The epoxy on the flywheel stator magnets comes loose and lol for some reason the engineers didn't make any sort of bracketing system like most bikes have. So when the magnets come loose they disintegrate against the stator and send shards of ground up magnet into your engine oil. It genuinely doesnt cause any major engine issues, but it does effect the bike's ability to sustain a charge. Anyway, the recognized "fix" is to literally slap JB weld between the magnets so they cant move or come off. Yes it works.

      my 03 sv1k has had the magnets jb welded for over 10 years, its held up very well. Mine had all come loose but didn't contact the stator so they weren't damaged. JB welded them and shimmed them so they were all spaced correctly, has outlasted the factory adhesive at this point, I pull the cover every now and again and check it over, no signs of the oil or heat causing the jb weld to break down.

    • @Yvolve
      @Yvolve Před 4 měsíci +1

      It works because you used JB Weld for its intended purpose. The stator magnets are held on with epoxy from factory, it is just not good enough. JB Weld is a lot stronger and being packed with aluminium, it can deal with heat better. Epoxy is a great glue, especially if it doesn't have to deal with shock load or bending, or a force trying to shear the epoxy.
      Suzuki seems to have a habit of not really fixing issues like this. The DL1000 has a known issue with the clutch basket bearing, the DRZ has an issue with stator bolts backing out and risking damage by overtightening the front sprocket nut (long explanation, something gets crushed and starts leaking).

I cleaned all the rubber off both components ( couldn’t believe it was still in two good pieces ) I had to make sure it sat nice and square on the part still on the engine block ( luckily I am a carpenter and I have a decent eye on me ), gave it 2 days to dry, hooked all the belts back up and thought if it can get me to the mechanic I will be happy. 4 MONTHS LATER AND ITS GOING LIKE A CHAMPION, so I thought I had better not push my luck, bought a new balancer took it to work and me and my two carpenters cracked the nut and changed it, now two years later she’s sitting in the drive way and is still my best work truck

      no. just… no. not properly prepping bare metal before welding is the only way welding can cause rusting. weld through primer protects against corrosion, not rust (corrosion and rust are not the same thing). *splicing is more likely to rust than full panel replacement. “epoxy” is not a thing, it’s either epoxy resin (aka body filler) or epoxy adhesive (aka JB weld). just delete ur whole comment it’s all wrong
