      You might have a sensitive sense of smell, try pulling the glass farther away from your nose until you can start to distinguish flavors. This is actually one of the hardest processes of learning how to taste wine. Keep it up!

    • @daveclinton4945
      @daveclinton4945 Před 3 lety +7

      Drink the same wine for a period of time, like 2 weeks, so that your nose and tongue are used to it. Then try a totally different wine and see how it contrasts. Then you may begin detecting variances such as sweetness, fruitiness, oakiness, tannins, etc. I've learned the most about tasting by tasting a whole lot of wine. It takes time!

    Can you do a video about how you quantify wine structure? A lot of times, I might say a wine has High alcohol and then someone else will say something completely different, and I'll second guess how I'm perceiving it. So a video (or even a small series) about the different sensations at each level (Low, Med-, Med., Med+, High) for each quality (tannin, alcohol, acid, etc.) would be really helpful!

    I had a bottle of Nicole Chanrion Domaine de la Voute des Crozes Cote de Brouilly 2018 that had a huge aroma of raspberry sauce that you would put on ice cream. That was the primary smell and literally the primary. No secondary, no tertiary, all I got was that raspberry sauce. I was kind of impressed that I could pick out a sense out of the wine as I normally have somewhat of struggle time picking out senses in red wine. White wine aromas and flavors are easier, jalapeño and cilantro aromas in most New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, Peach, Granny Smith apple, honey from those honey stick, and a weird smell of parmesan cheese with my Dr.Heidemanns 2018 Splätese Riesling.

    newbie learnng to be a snob. The question i am left with after watching this video is you state that by following these steps one can assess the QUALITY of a wine. coud you perhaps define quality? IS it the balance of all these features? Seems to me that Quality is a persona; thing, much like: Did i LIKE this wine? and yet Someone else may think the wine I like is shitty. I do NOT have a French nose. I have a decidedly Polish nose. If a wine pairs well with kielbasa and pirogi then i am likely to like it (Alcohol content somewhere near vodka), I am starting my own home vineyard (4 acres) and want to learn to make quality wines that I like. I need to define quality better. Thanks for the video

    Tasting Pinot Noir but your personality is perkier than a Chablis!! :) Still trying to learn a lot about tasting... I do have a question about the Pinot Noir though...so how do you differentiate between the 'earthiness' of Pinot from it being oaky? I also have in my notes that Oregon being a new world wine...(or any Pinot from new world) tends to have more fruity flavors toward 'red fruits'...just my notes from other youtube videos and reading. So...if you compare it say with a French Pinot Noir...would it be expected to be less fruity perhaps because of the style/being old world? Thanks Madeline!
