“Morro” does mean hill, but here in Brazil most slums, areas heavily packed with criminal organizations and/or drug selling points are located in hills, that’s why morro (hill) is almost a synonym for favela (slum).
Also, just to serve as background, in Brazil, the “favelização” (slumification or something like that) of the hills happened during a heavy industrialization of the urban areas in the 1950s, and in that era people went away from rural areas and started working and living in urban areas. Since there was no affordable space for them to live, they started building precarious houses in periferic areas that were not already occupied and/or were considered unfit or unsafe to live (like hills).
A little note: this is true for the favelas in Rio (where MV Bill is from). São Paulo too but a lot less than Rio. So it is less likely you’ll see Racionais who are from SP talking about hills. Outside of Rio, often favelas aren’t on hills.

Na vdd esse processo começou com o fim da escravidão, só se acentuou ao longo do sec xx, mas não começou nele. Inclusive o nome favela vem do fato de que a primeira favela, a da providência, surgiu a partir dos soldados do exército que lutaram em canudos aos quais foi prometido que teriam terras após irem la massacrar o povo do sertão, só que como era esperado, ficaram na mão e começaram a ocupar o morro ali atrás da central. Como la na região de canudos os morros eram cheios de uma planta chamada favela, o acampamento do exército, por ser nos morros, eram chamados de favelas. Quando voltaram e ocuparam os morros daqui do rio, pelo fato das condições serem iguais as do acampamento, começaram a chamar de favela tbm

Someone prolly already answered that, but when he says "morro" and it translates to slums is because particularly in Rio de Janeiro where MV Bill is from, the slums are all located in the Rio de Janeiro hills, so over there "hills" and "slums" kind of end up meaning the same thing, it's the hood, it's the comunity.

"ALEMÃES/GERMANS" meant "ENEMY", said in the sense of being a rival faction or coming from some other morro (favela), in control of the local traffic. More recently, adopted the term referring to the PM's (Military Police) of Elite and nowadays, it is said of any type of opponent that comes to fight its "movement".

If you want more Brazilian Rap, I strongly suggest Expressão Ativa's 'O Último Perdão', it's an obscure song, but it takes the message of 'crime is going to kill you' to the full logic. It's about a criminal who's just been shot reminiscing about his life.

Morro é uma tipologia geográfica, planície, Morro, etc. Mas além da geografia foi onde em muitos lugares se reorganizaram as favelas depois da expropriação da população preta e pobre dos centros pela política de "higienização". Por exemplo o Morro do Alemão é uma comunidade/ "favela". O Mv Bill é também oriundo a Cidade de Deus, a comunidade no Rio que deu também a história do filme.

To put it simple, the slums are built in a hill due to the geology of our country. It has a lot of hills and moutains. So here, in Brazil, they are the same thing cause, well, they actually are the same thing in most places.

In Rio, we've got a real distinct topography. Usually the favelas are taken place on the hills. So , in Rio context, morro (hill) and favela (slums) are used interchangebly.
this music talks specifically about rio de janeiro where the slums are in hills, Morro translates to Slums in rio. I do recommend Falcao meninos do trafico, it's a doc produced and directed by Mv Bill (you prolly can find with eng sub here on youtube)

Eu vivi parte da minha vida nessa realidade quando criança, com sorte minha mãe conseguiu uma casa no meio do mato e me tirou da favela temendo que eu terminasse como alguns dos irmãos dela (três irmãos mortos na favela), mas me lembro de muita coisa na favela do Rio Pequeno nos anos 80 e 90, em São Paulo

For me, "eu estou ouvindo alguém me chamar" by racionais is the best... He talk about a guy that are tell his story, how he enter in the crime life, but he talk about his brother life (normal life comparation) and talk about the east of poor people due to lack of opportunity...

MVbill is a studious MC, he made a documentary called "Falcão Meninos do Tráfico" from 2006, where he interviewed 11 boys under the age of 17 who worked as drug soldiers, at the end of the filming that lasted only 1 year, only one of respondents was still alive and because he was arrested. Since then, the situation has only gotten worse, now that the dollar was worth more than 5 reais, the dealer has become more aggressive because even the basics have become very expensive.
In Rio de Janeiro many slums (favelas) are located on top of hills, so it's common to call them "morro" there. When you listen to Racionais, for example, who are from São Paulo they just say "favela" or "quebrada" (which can also be ghetto)
"Morro" is hill, but since most development happened in the flat areas, the workers built their own communities, or favelas, often up the hill close to where they had to work. So it can mean both things.
