I had the same issue with level on Boss DS1 and DS2 into my clean and "dirty clean" amp settings, but if I switch to the gain channel and had it set to 0 with volume at whatever appropriate, I can run them at full. Peavey and fender stereo rig. Hopefully that helps, I don't understand the science but think it's an available headroom per channel thing.

    loved this episode. I'm not an especially huge fan of the Chili Peppers. I have a great respect for their musicianship and their knack for writing a hook. I did watch Live at Bonnaroo. Having a general familiarity with them - I was particularly paying I was trying to pay attention to John on guitar. Something seemed a bit off. The edits for the first handful of songs seemed to not let me in on the fact that it was actually Josh Klinghoffer playing. They even had him dress kind of like what John may have worn. He kind moved around like John in 1989. I felt let down by that and cut out about half way through the film. Might have been a little too judgemental, but I just wasn't feeling it. Josh was a great player - nothing against him. The whole thing didn't sit well with me though. Seemed to be a little contrived

    Hello Dave,congratulations on your work and your music, you can see that you do all this with passion and dedication. I've followed pretty much all of your videos on how to get the Frusciante sound and I'm almost there. in a video you said that you rely on your pedals to recreate the sound because obviously you can't always have your favorite amp available. In my case I have this amp: DV Mark Jazz 12 can you give me some advice on how to set it up? if I put the volume of the ds 2 to 10 there is a jump in volume too large but if I keep it more I lose the characteristic sound of the ds 2 (as you teach ^^). Amazing playing. Quick question for you - have you ever found a noiseless strat pickup that you like for Frusciante tones? @sadfvsdavn Před 3 lety

    Hi Dave, I experienced something similar with the DS-2 and I think it’s because of the CE-1. I use the CE-1 crunch section from Will Galluccio, which should be an exact clone like yours from PastFx. If I run it in high mode and it gets pushed by that volume jump from an maxed out DS-2, then I also get that washed out tone with some really unpleasant harshness. I lowered the level so far that the DS2 doesn’t higher the initial volume too much and it was fine. I didn’t had this problem with other overdrives like the Jackhammer, so I think it’s the CE-1 that doesn’t like to be pushed

    • @mickkraviz
      @mickkraviz Před 3 lety

      I somehow experienced better & precise (less muffled) DS-2 tones with a less overdriven amp. Like a Marshall amp really on the edge of break up. For example: I have a jcm800 studio, the more I turn up the gain, the worse my ds2 sounds. You really have to find a sweetspot.
      Pedals like the Jackhammer just don‘t work for me, because they wash out the ds2 & it’s just dark. I guess when you’re not using a really compressing amp you have to turn down the level of the ds a little bit :)

    Hi Dave, how come this board requires you to set most of the knobs at 12' o clock, like you mentioned? Is it because of the fender amp? I remember that you would normally max out the ds2, wh10 etc.

    • @thedavesimpson
      @thedavesimpson  Před 3 lety +3

      Could be the amp. I'm not sure. When i get round to part 2 we'll figure it. :)

      I think ce1 gives so much characteristic sound that every other pedal can breath freely without need to be maxed out, yeah ce1 is the reason i think. well in this case pastfx, and Fenders can be nassal with pedals to opposite of Marshall who eats pedals
