With Gaijin officially kicking off War Thunder's winter and Christmas sales, I figured now would be a good time to talk about the best premium tank in the game. I'll also be talking about the best tank premiums for every tech tree, so this is a sort of buyer's guide.

I know there’s an identical tank that’s the same but not premium, but the JagdPanther is disgustingly strong for grinding the German tree. At 6.0, it consistently gets downtiered to 5.7, which allows it to absolutely dumpster everything.
Even Germany’s bane, the Jumbo, can be easily pend through the front. Shoot, angle, then kill. It consistently bounces any shots, with the exception being Soviet Anti Tank guns, and the IS tanks.
its 6.3 now, and when it was 6.0 i agree it was a war crime to use it, but i feel its pretty balanced now since i dont see it much in 5.7 anymore

@@micudamm And for some reason it is rarely uptiered if you run a 6.0 lineup as Germany. Always get downtiered to 5.7, so it makes the tank disgustingly strong.
@@SilentButDudley wasnt the experience gain per gamr nerfed? I once grinded out all the top tiers in Germany including both leopard 2s after the a4 and i dont seem to be getting rewarded as much for my game. Ive got a premium account both times and it feels like the grind is so much slower now
I got the t114 when I was stuck at 6.3, since I got it, it carried me to 7.7 easily.

France has so many strong premiums it’s impressive. The B1 Ter, the LVT, FL 10, the premium EBRs, the Somua SM, the AMX-30 and the AMX-30 Super are all some of the best tanks at those BRs, and it’s all on the same tree.
It would be really great premiums if it wasn't to grind the worst empty tech tree ingame with insane repair cost garbage and nerfed vehicles that receive a shitty prototype that never existed in it's tech tree once every year and Gaijin expect players to grind and play it. Really the French tech tree is only for you if you are into the worst types of BDSM lmao.

Playing a good premium won't change the fact you are unlocking garbage nerfed vehicles in the tech tree especially when all it's ok ones are already in the Uk, Germany or USA and now Israel tree. So stfu and treat your dyslexia.
@@ommsterlitz1805 honestly I’m a French main (as a French guy) and I both love and hate the tree. It has some greats BR brackets, but overall very high repair costs.
In reality, France has the potential to have a tree at least as big as the German one above WW2 vehicles but either Gaijing does not like France or don’t think it’s worth it so they let it in this very sad state.

Bought the T-34-57(1943) for sale, and wow does the turret make a huge difference. It's 0.3 BR higher than the normal one, but you get the trolly 1943 turret with an extra crewmate on top of the extremely good 57mm. Another one I bought was the Cobra King, which is a Jumbo with premium benefits and a sick sounding gun.

there's a free jumbo in the tech tree. The t14 plays a lot like a lighter jumbo at 4.7, it has a good line up with the T1 and a 76mm sherman too
Might just be me but feels like the cobra king is all the benefits of the jumbo without any of the weakness
P2W is ass. Premium vehicles should never be better than their tech tree counterparts at the same BR. They should never be the best at their BR if they don't have a counterpart.
The reason they should be bought is their above average RP and SL gains. Not to gain an advantage over people who cannot or will not spend money on a F2P game.
Honestly I see them every match playing Soviet 7.0/7.3
A squad of IS-6 make my record nobrain winstreak(23 wins in a row when we complete marathon). Just strait push with two IS-6 and a support dude from behind (up to 20 kills for a squad every 7.7-7.3 TRB). With just three (or two of em and one support dude at 7.0) it was always downtired. The only and real enemy - focking cars with 400+ penetration.
the reason you dont see IS-6 anymore is because it was nerfed pretty hard. it got its BR increased and the turret was "fixed" by getting its armor decreased. also heat monster's but that's expected at that BR.
Kv1c was uptiered which killed the only reason to play it
With the IS-6 its a good tank still its just not broken like it was for awhile - Mantlet armour got reduced, on top of this its just an old prem so much less people see and new prems are just as good if not better so they get all the attention.
T114 is literally an M50 with a fully traversable turret,a smaller profile and arguably more maneuverability and adaptability due to the turret.
Seen people cover it in bushes making the thing almost invisible in forest
Its probably the only US tank thats actually decent for its BR and isnt ridiculously overtiered.

"For Britain, the Black Prince". That says everything about how bad the British tanks are modelled that one of the worst and most hysterically over-BRed premium tanks in the game is listed as one of their best.
Nah he was wrong about the BP the RAAC and action X are both better than the black prince and avre. Also as i understand the black prince is modeled fine and 6.0 is a pretty decent br for it

@@closy1238 Having possessed the BP for a long time and played it extensively, it absolutely is not correct at all in its BR. It's got a 4.7 tanks armour that can be lolpenned by German 5.3 medium tanks, with a 4.7 tanks gun, using a 5.0's ammo, is the slowest vehicle in the entire game...and it's at 6.0. And its 5.0 ammo is hilariously underpowered that is missing both real life penetration and deals pathetic damage per shot in a BR range that unhistorical APHE spheres of doom rule supreme. Also its mobility is modelled only what it was conservatively tested to, not what it could actually do if they put it in combat full pace (like Russian tanks are all modelled by).
It absolutely needs to be pushed lower to 5.7 at the very very least. Possibly even 5.3 if they don't fix its ammo.
The BP is still very effective, I've had multiple 10 kill games in both uptier and down tiers
@@Retrosicotte every round in game is missing pen from irl so no big deal and you can still lol pen the thickest part of a panther from 1.9km away. The armour is good and amazing if you angle it with 150mm frontal armour and around 100 on the sides if you angle properly your very hard to kill and can hit back very hard
My favourite is the sho't kal. I know it's kind of meh in all regards, but when fighting primarily heatfs and heat rounds in the very common downtiers, blazer era is great. Even in uptiers the firepower is pretty good, and it just looks really cool.

Also, for the T-55AM, I use the ATGM for targets the APHE can't pen. Sure, its slower than regular round, but it does more damage and pens more reliably than the sabot.
I main APFSDS even on its BR. Sometimes the low post pen kills me or makes me do 2-3 shots, but honestly I dont mind. I take it to 9.7 with the Mi-24V and it honestly can do everything, its just that, you cant really take any shots, HEATFS people dont pen most of the time especially at 8.3 as they dont anticipate the appliqué composites at the hull. ATGMs are fun and its honestly why I got it instead of T-72 but I barely use it as I find the darts are just better at higher BRs
I carry atgms as a "fuck you maus" option
@@s4ltyn748 I put some atgms against the maus side armor and for some reason it didnt penetrate lmao. I had enough time to deal around 3. I just switched to APFSDS and slapped his face frontally
@@s4ltyn748T 54s APDS, and Tanks with british L7 cannon like vickers can one shot maus through the turret cheeks. Centurion AVRE can kill it from any direction.Maus is very weak now.

Finally the Somua SM gets the recognition it deserves. Not only is the vehicle itself very good, its backed by one of the best and most fun lineups in the entire game. France 7.3 is extremely versatile and powerful, only missing some CAS and AA.
Are you trying to tell me the AD4, F8F and F4U7 are bad CAS planes... Sure, they might not be 7.3, but being in a jet doesn't protect you from radar spaa bullshit anyways

I think there were some missing tanks which deserve their honorable mentions imo, such as: M4A5 Ram, Tiger 2 Sla 16, KV-1 C, T34 747, SMK, Pz 4 G (italy), M60 Ariete and Strv 81 RB 52.
Now i don't mean any of these tanks are supposedly the best premium, i just think they are good enough to warrant a mention.
Oh yeah the ram is crazy, it's like the T-14 but the armor is a volumetric nightmare

Even as a back up you’d have to main 5.3 tanks where it’s pretty much useless bc most of the games that ends up 6.3 at least for me

Just bought it. Its honestly amazing. Russian players often don't know how to pen their own tanks and the gun cuts through most of them.
I love the T28, its pretty fun to just hold W and you never get hurt.

I didnt find the T-55-AM to be really OP but then again its well known that I suck. I'm surprised the Tiger II SLA.16 wasn't on this list, its easily the best Tiger II in the game and adds to an excellent 6.7 lineup.

@Panzer_killer123 its gun is great. I have no problem killing tanks up to 7.3 heavies, 7.7 heavies can be an issue though. All american heavies save I think the T-32 can be penned through the mantlet or lower frontal plate

Imo, the WMA is the best, gen 2 thermals, good dart, tandem atgm, dual stab 105, on a decent hull, only thing it lacks is armour. At 8.3 you cant complain + its tier 6
Imo it's held back by turret traverse speed, lack of reverse speed, and just not having any gun depression at all, but otherwise, I'd agree it's completely busted in a downtier on the right map

Somua SM is so fun to play, was skeptical to get it but I remembered how fun the French line was on WoT so I figured I would get it to give a kick start to the French line and boy am I glad I got this tank. It quickly became my favorite tank
My best premium is the A6M5 KO, great aircraft with amazing boosters, especially when paired with a premium account.
Absolutely. Great aircraft and it doesn't get the awful repair costs of the tech tree A6M5s.
I’ve been using the IS-6 with my 7.0 - 7.3 lineup in my opinion the IS-6 seems pretty adequate despite the HEAT slingers at the BR. I often manage to bounce or simply absorb HEAT shells in my IS-6 instead of being damaged, the mobility is also decent for it’s class and weight and the reverse speed has saved my ass so many times and allows me to disengage quickly.
I remember playing the T55am when it was actually quite difficult to play as it used to face the Abrams and leopard 2a4
I recently got the Somua SM to farm out the French tree, and it's a wonderful tank.
It's one of those vehicles that allow you to take on multiple enemies at once, thanks to the quick autoloader. The load-time is so fast (at 7.3 at least), that you can bait a shot, and by the time the enemy can get into firing position, you can fire again. It's great.
I recently got the OF-40 MTCA, the regular OF-40 is my favorite tank and that extra mobility is SOOOOO nice.

Honorable mention goes to the M4A5 Ram, a flat-out better Sherman at 3.7 with better armor, a faster reload, and more pen. It's a clubber and it's only 500GE right now.
I swear the ram is one of the hardest lower tier tanks to kill, with all the random slopes and the side armor it can take one hell of a beating
The Ram is the only Sherman I love. I don't get casually one-shot by everything with a decent cannon...

I would say the best premium for the GE is the PZ.III N in the German tree. 3.5 second reload for 100mm heat, spaced armour so most auto cannons can’t pen your thin sides. 70mm spaces armour on the UFP.
Or you could play tech tree PzIII M with additional 25mm armor on the turret face and vastly better gun. For free. With PzIII L as a free (slightly worse) backup. PzIII N is pretty worthless compared to them.

T-55AM-1, XM-1 (GM) and Leopard A1A1 L/44 were all originally 8.7s, and of the three I found the XM-1 the least problematic to deal with. But whereas the XM-1 and L/44 both went up to 9.0 (now 9.3 for the XM), Gaijin made the inexplicable decision to drop the T-55AM-1 to 8.3. Many people (myself included) pointed out that it was entirely broken for the T-55AM-1 to be the same BR as the tech tree T-55A despite being a straight upgrade in every way (better ammo, laser rangefinder, significant up-armouring, plus a better engine that gives it a slightly higher power to weight ratio despite all the extra weight). Instead of putting it back at 8.7 where it was at least somewhat fair, they instead dropped the T-55A to 8.0, which IMO was completely unnecessary and solved nothing. The T-55A was fantastic at 8.3 and I much preferred it to the T-62 at the same BR, now the better tank of the tech tree 8.3s (IMO) is at 8.0, and based on BRs we're now supposed to believe the T-62 is equivalent to the T-55AM-1, which it clearly isn't.

Both upgraded t-55 are amazing, the reason it went down in br is because the german 9.0 lineup was just completely dominating with the kpz 70, rad 90 and leo a1a1 l44 which all for that reason went up
the clip at the end is so accurate like the somua is so op behind an experienced tanker, that the enemy team will throw everything at u to take u down to the point where u will have enough for a nuke.
I bought the American T-29 heavy tank and been having fun with it on both RB and AB mostly because i play for fun and not for brinding, when i least expected it i ended up grinding the T-34 and the T-26e1 which are fine by me and probably be the peak i will grind as i have mo intention of going further, except maybe the M103 but imo, the T-29 is a fun tank but i beljeve is down to my play style as i struggle with more nimble vehicles
For fun I recommend buying the t 34 57 model 1943 damn that tank is good for grinding sl
When you get top tier in the t55am-1 it’s a little op but I mostly experience up tiers to 8.7-9.0 since those are popular br’s, overall I’m happy with its br

Personally I love using the jagdpanther BFW, it’s just dumb fun, it’s got good (frontal) armour, a gun that one shots anything and it’s pretty quick

When you use the T-55AM-1, it's an armored behemoth with a nuke round. When I play, it's a paper tank that self-destructs when snow hits it, and the APHE doesn't fuse properly, and when it does, it could blow up in a turret, and all it'll do is yellow the crew.

I love the Somua sm. It and the fl10 helped me grind up to 8.3 really easily. The French 100mm is really great if you know where to shoot tanks. When I need SLs the somua is my go too

Kv. 1 C 747 used to be my go too cuz that thing was tough enough to handle itself in uptiers and basically unkillable at even a match tier, but the bringing it up to 5.0 hasn’t really reduced its effectiveness but it really fucks over what you are able to bring out with it
Why? Just play it along 4.7 tanks. There is no rule that says a 5.0 lineup must only consist of 5.0 tanks

@@mbgaming1017 from what I know there is the sturer emil, the jagdpanzer 4. Add a wirbelwind and you have 4 tanks. Then 2 planes and there you go. A balanced lineup. But I dont like germany 4.7 or 5.0 in general. So I imagine people only play it for the kv 1c

I you are just starting the US grind or are just getting to the mid level grind wall until 6.0 or if you just need SL and research points I recommend the t14. It is not invincible by any means and up tiers make it more difficult but if you can learn how to angle the armor and hide the weak spots you can easily rack up 5 kills early game then more to cas or another tank after death. Also it is very fun to have the enemy just not know where to shoot you :)
You will have to learn weak spots to aim for, especially the russian tanks ( turret cheeks on kv 1's). Just us the armor analysis, it will be your best friend with american 75mm guns.
I really enjoy the RAAC Centurion, the .50 actually does help a lot against the horde of meme cars at that tier

Could you do a video explaining the Strv 103-0, its weak points, strong points, and overall abilities that make it useful. I've seen very few good information, or information that shows it doing well.
TLDR
A MBT era TD with meh side armour superb firepower
Probably for old timer enjoy the TD driving style

Kv1 C if it gets downtier beats jagdpather(or if it gets back its old BR that was perfectly balanced) for best by far, T-44-122 is criminally underrated in russian as its basically a hellcat with 122 and it gets that premium magic pen on almost every hit and regularly performs better then the same gun on non premiums. There is also cobra king which magically can whitstand even KV-2 shots to the side due to gajin forgetting to reduce the premium "lets forget hits " modifier.
WT is the game that always frustrated me enough to refuse buying anything in it for almost a decade - good job Gaijin, keep the perfect record!
You're not missing out on much. Fuck gaijin honestly but at the same time they have given some effort with actually constantly trying to give us better immersion in sounds and they finally almost got it right. Graphics, tank models. They are barely trying and being greedy af more than trying but at least they're still trying

I debated for a month to get the t55am or the TURMs. Ended up settling on the turms and bring bring talismanned BMP2M with it. A friend and I play it together and we dominate so many matches. It doesn't have the luxury that the t55 does of weaker foes, but having played the game for years and I get an extremely powerful 9.7 with a dozer, it's awesome

I'm surprised that the fucking WMA301 (what I like to call the 'WuoMaoArmy301') wasn't mentioned because god is that machine the bane of my existence playing 7.3 vehicles with its APFSDS and its ATGM with 750mm of penetration.
I got the T-72AV with the sales going on and personally I find it is a good tank to play for grinding out SL and even the tech tree I can easily get 5 kills most games
T55AM helped me greatly to break through to top tier. Well worth the money
The swedish SAV 20.12.48 should have gotten more attention. It's hands down the most fun I've ever had in War Thunder. It's even quick enough to (sometimes) dodge the malding revenge bombers.

its a t55 with the upgrade kit from the T-62M1, at 8.3 instead of 8.7, so yeah its amazing

T55AM1 is not OP....its a stinking turd. 8.5 second reload with an ace crew, APFSDS that barely beats its APDS, Glacial turret rotation and it dies in 1 hit because of its crew and ammo layout. The past few days my T55AM1 has been wrecked even in downtiers...I honestly regret buying it 2 years ago as I have lost so much with it :( I hit a Class 3P in its ammo rack with the 9m117 missile....it turned yellow and I got promptly 1 tapped with a DM33, I have been overpressured by the IKV 91firing HEAT-FS hitting my commanders Cupola killing the entire crew. To be honest...Gaijin should never have added it as its too weak to face 9.0 and a pain for anything that can only fire HEAT. TAM2IP is 8.7 and that thing is a monster with DM33, Merkava like survivability, fast as hell and coated in Composites. I currently hate the T55AM1....I dont know why its still for sale. Its a solid avpid like the plague

I enjoy the T-34-100. Light armor for its br sure, but good gun, fun to run around in, and gets pretty good rp and sl bonus for not doing much.

For me it's easily the King Tiger Sla. 16.
The upgraded engine makes a huge difference when it comes to maneuverability and speed. It can keep up with the Panthers and even the Leopards for the most part. That upgraded engine makes it so that you can get into places where people don't expect a King Tiger to be that early. In close quarters that upgraded engine allows you to make neutral turns much quicker, thus improving survivability.
You get the standard long 88 as your armament, and until a recent patch, it was the only KT with a commander MG. Nothing really different than the regular KT here.
And this one is mostly situational at best, but every once in a blue moon, the extra tracks on the turret will save you from HEAT.
But all in all, the Sla is just an objectively better King Tiger which is already phenomenal. It transforms the tech tree King Tiger from a somewhat sluggish and cumbersome sniper into a very well rounded proto-MBT.
definetly the t114 for america, but instead of the jagdpanther for germany, i would say the Pz.II slc (the one with the 50mm). it might be 2.3 br but its the only other german tank with spotting capabilities besides the puma until you get to 6.3 with the m41. its light armor and does not do well in 1v1 open space battles, but is incredibly nimble and can flank and hide better than the puma. in desperate situations, especially on offroad or thick terrain, it can make a clutch cap for a loosing team and if you are in a tight situation, it doesnt have to worry about a 2 point turn like the puma, since it can turn on the spot.
Last christmas sale I bought the T-72AV and personally I actually think it was great vehicle. But to be honest. That's mainly thanks to a lack of enemy intelligence. Does it still hold up nowadays? I havent played in months.
I like Panhard EBR 1954 for speed and firepower, even that only have single AP type and a HE. T-10A for armor and stablized, but firepower is not much to most cold war tanks due to low AP value. Currently i like QF 3.7 on Ram mounting for firepower, and high kill reward for the BR. What i hope for next update is maybe... time fuse for HE round, as it's British Anti-air cannon on Canadian tank platform.
ive used to enjoy the Obj120 a lot, sure its quite situational, slow and has no Armor. But if you get into a decent spot, you can do some real damage on the enemy team, it even performs still good in uptiers, to a point where ive used to bring it into 11.0 matches and still be relatively effective with it. sure the HEAT and APDSFS are not that good at this BR, but the HE shell is still really strong.
I love my T14 as it’s cool looking but most importantly it’s extremely effective.
It’s one of easiest tanks to angle and it makes you impenetrable.
In addition the fact tahts it’s a rare tank to see means the enemies are confused where to shoot which gives you an upper hand

The B1 Ter is by far my favorite. The armour is insane, the mobility is ok and the firepower is good. Many times I have gone the while game without death and sometimes with no rounds penetrating me. It's the Maus of low tier. In an uptier it is harder though. The armour is broken at 2.3 and less so at 3.3
The 55-AM1 and Mig 15ish singlehandedly got me from tier 4 to top tier in russia, the grind this vehicle can get you through with just a little skill insane
the AM is pretty fun ngl, it does exactly what you would expect from a *kind of worryingly* powerful premium.
I like the chi nu 3 decent armor and gun for its br and isnt that bad in an uptier

I just got the T14 today and it is absolutely insane. It’s a sherman with jumbo armour at 4.7.
I also had the 2C bis, which is t that good of a premium, but probably the silliest premium. It is a house with a trebuchet of HE.
