I followed this video and my mistake was checking "Show Advanced Option Pages". For some unknown reason, this setting ended in an error/crash before the page with the selection of the card model. I'm running it on Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB, which makes it even more complicated :D Thank you for this video, it was helpful for me, anyway.
Hey 👍 thanks for your videos, are really helpful, I plan on getting a 7i96s too but I am an extreme noob in electronics but willing to learn , my question is about the power supply, I see you use a MDR 60-5 that is 10A, reading the documentation of the card I can't find how many amps it needs, so I would like to know how did you find out?
Hello, I have technic servos, ipc power supply, linux cnc installed, eithernet cables, switch. Is this what I need in order to connect a 3axis system to linuxCNC?
Is the Mesa 7i96S faster than using the parallel port? I'm almost done my 5 axis mill with LinuxCNC and I don't care about the price I just want the faster setup, I just don't know what electronics I should use to get the most out of my high speed servos.
Do you know when the 2.9 are coming out for real ? I did follow you'r walk true but it is not for any beginner. (and i am not a beginner) still it is a long walk to get there.
@@TheFeralEngineer keep it coming, that was a laugh out loud one for me. Side note, is there anywhere that gives a decent comparison of the different Mesa FPGA cards? I know you’ve discussed it a bit in your older videos and Mesa has a linuxcnc approved product section but I’ve yet to find a decent “this has more outputs, this can run this kind of spindle, this fpga is faster, etc.” list/video
Great timing... I just ordered one of these earlier this week... Will be my first time setting up Linuxcnc... Looking forward to more videos
Always get excited when I see you’ve made a new post!
Be on the lookout for some really cool updates :)
@@TheFeralEngineer That's why I subscribed. :)
Nice and informative video. Thanks.
Great !!!!

There's a bug in pncconf on version 2.9 that causes it to crash on the advanced config, unfortunately.
@@TheFeralEngineer I didn't find that anywhere mentioned. Should I report that on Github or is that something known and I was not enough searching?

You really only need about 2A, i just always buy the big ones because they're only a few bucks more 😆
Why none of those Mesa on Ebay?
Am in kenya have always wanted to set a cnc plasma but i have no means to shipping these controllers ..i was scammed in aliexpress

This is one of them. You can also use a 7i76e, 7i95 or 7i92 with expansion cards
Hello !
Would you have the slightest idea about why there is an import restriction to Europe on this gorgeous mesa board?
No clue, I just use them.

It's faster and more robust. You'll have much better performance with any mesa card compared to a parallel port
hey, i bought 2 of these boards but keep having a network error. any ideas on what i can do?
What version of Linux rt kernel are you running?
👍
How it works with spindle drive with analog output?
There's an analog section, similar to the 7i76e, but without the enable and direction pins. You'd have to map those to outputs, i believe
@@TheFeralEngineer Thanks!
2 boards on the way, so it will be interesting, how to make it work.

Did you start at the bare bones videos?
@@TheFeralEngineer
Yep
It only works with 2.9? where the eff is 2.9 available from?
also, when you're doing the pnconf I don't see a discovery option listed
@@gilesclement sounds like I'll have to do a video on installing from buildbot and compile from source 😆
It identifies as 24v 😂
It identifies as 24v hahahaha
I've been waiting for someone to catch that 🙂😆

@@drivenba none that I've seen, unfortunately. Just kind of something you pick up along the way. Maybe I'll do a video on it 🤔🤔
@@TheFeralEngineer I’d donate to a patreon for this info.

I am looking at this very board on eusurplus, priced in euros. Why do you think there is an export restriction?
