I love how you always have a way to make ordinary things more exciting. I’ve had a graphic tablet sitting on my desk for over a year (got it once covid started) and havent really found it useful cuz I dont know how to draw. Now I’m excited to take elevation shots of my projects and draw over them on photoshop 🤩🤩🤩🤩

Hi. I have been using this tablet for a year now. I must say it has saved a lot of time. The pen pressure and tilt work accurately.
I had no issues with brush resizing with the dial (one thing I love about this tablet is, you can toggle between functions of the dial with one dedicated key - saves a lot of time.)
Something to take care of is, after a while, you will find yourself working in the same area on a tablet and the remaining area is untouched.
Cheers! Thank you for such amazing content.

Thank you for the time you put in on this video. I haven't found many people using tablets for architectural drawings. At least not ones making videos. I'm using the XP-PEN 13.3 and like it. I agree with you. I keep my left hand on the keyboard and use Photoshop instead of setting my own shortcuts. I am producing adult color books of the historic buildings in my city after already doing 97 detailed drawings of the sites and publishing them in a book. I use the shift key to draw mostly straight lines and am able to move swiftly. Setting my pen to 100% hardness and 29% smooth and nothing else turned on, I get complete saturation and don't have to worry about pen pressure. But I have the option to move in and do some freehand drawings of interesting sculptural details. Although it's taken some time to get used to the more freehand movements of the tablet after the exactness of AutoCad, I like the tablet as an additional tool in my arsenal.

I recently got my graphic tablet and i've been enjoying it so far! It's honestly not a replacement for mouse but it's more of a supplement to make your workflow much intuitive. However, it's true that you need some time to get used to drawing on a tablet while keeping your eyes on the screen. Really impressed with your output! 💯

i use display tablet when i am at design process, I came from an iPad Sketch design to display tablet directly on Photoshop and Illustrator. I normal use Rhino or Archicad for white model as reference of perspectives and scales then export them into Illustrator and Photoshop for post process like hand drawing sections, floor plans or material testings to freely make design options, it is very intuitive since everthing is done digitally and save as digital copies. Sometimes it is also great to do hand drawing style illustrations instead of realistic rendering using Lumion or Enscape. It makes your architectural presentation more accepting in hand drawing style.

I use a Wacom pen display Cintiq 24HD touch. This tool is 100% worth it. I use Revit most of the day, and use the pen 90% of the time. the 10% is because I also have 2 other normal screens, and instead of toggling the display it is just easier to grab the mouse and use it on the non-tablet screens. I am not faster but I am also not slower, and I am not using my mouse which reduces risk to get OOS by a considerable margin. This brings me back to the days when I started drawing using tracing paper on a drawing board back when I starteed my career. Buttons on the side of the screen are not that usefuill, the only useful one I use is the Toggle Display button, which allows me to use my tablet on the second and third monitors in my setup - but I find I use my mouse for these more often. Still 100% worth getting despite some things. Sketching in photoshop and Snip& Sketch just simply blows away any other excuse not to use this pen display tool. if you can afford it- 100% get a wacom pen display- you will NEVER regret it.

I’m using a tablet already several years strictly for CAD (not sketching). The one thing that saves a lot of time is the absolute positioning on the screen (vs relative by mouse). With a tablet you can jump from one end of your screen to the other in a blip. And I work with dual screens (on being a 32” 4K). It doesn’t bother me that the width is greater than the height, you get used to that. Just program double-click in a penbutton, because double tapping isn’t great (you tap mostly in two different spots). For me, i’m looking for a pen with 3 buttons, so I can work 3D more easily.

If I were a student on a budget, the ipad and pencil with the Affinity suite (photo, design, publish) is pretty much everything you need in terms of digital tools to complete a degree in Architecture. Further, you can use the iPad as a tablet for a computer (Mac or Windows) and draw and model directly in your desktop apps. It has replaced my Wacom and drawing is far more intuitive, and portable. In professional practice, it has replaced the use of a laptop while in the field, airplane, and meetings. In the office, it has replaced the Adobe suite for graphics and layout. The time invested in drawing on an iPad (or similar tablet computer) will likely serve you the rest of your career, drawing on a graphics tablet such as the one in this video… not so much.

I see what you mean. But I wouldn't consider a replacement, but more as an extra technique in one's skillset.
This may be the first step, but the goal is to use the Graphic tablet over the final post-production phase.
But I understand that the average client isn't going to appreciate or understand a drawing like this.

@@LearnUpstairs yes admittingly its a very interesting product and after watching your vid i'm actually considering buying one just to try and use it for fast sketches during site meets.
and yeah sadly most of the clients at the end of the day wouldn't really appreciate not only a drawing like this but also they generally won't even appreciate our renderings.

I think you can draw straight perpendicular lines if you hold shift

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  Před 3 lety

Yes, you can. But then the drawing wouldn't have the sketch look that I was going for. Plus not relying on the shift key allows you to practice drawing with the graphic tablet

I've tried everything including Wacom and all failed and wasting huge amount of money until iPad pro came out in 2015.
I just simply couldn't adapt my self to sketching something while watching the screen....
So far I'm happy with the iPad pro.
Only wish would be the bigger screen iPad and have heard the news about that apple is considering the bigger tablet for Artist and designers! Hurray!
    Can't wait for it!

For what it's worth, the iPencil is garbage for digital painting. It only has one button, which means you can't resize your brush with your pen thumb.

The answer is: No. Get an iPad and Morpholio Trace.
    Happy to help.

I've heard good things about Morpholio Trace. But I've never tested.
The thing is that iPads are way out of budget for a lot of people (specially students), whereas a graphic tablet isn't

I'm using a Yeti Blue Yeti, what exactly is bad about the voice-over? Maybe that's something I can fix in in video editing.

i personally dont like these visualisations where you draw over a 3d model... The character of drawing with a pencil and paper is missing, because it is just tracing... but whatever floats your boat...

For anyone using android tablets, try superdisplay. It works wirelessly and wired even from usb a, so far it really helped me to turn my s7 tab into a graphic tablet. 3 days free trial and then about $10 for lifetime
