    It is current trending now due to people from The Bartlett (UCL) having extreme good results from using it. What people did not realise is that a Drawing Pad requires the user to actually KNOW HOW TO DRAW. People think getting the pad will miraculously make them an artist, little did they know that without having actual skills in drawing using pen and paper, they will struggle DOUBLE hard after they got the pad. Because they will be stuck with not knowing how to draw, AND the added steep learning curve on drawing into digital space (as the pad requires a different eye-hand coordination than drawing on paper). So u will see many students ended up giving up or totally not using the pad at the end of the day.

      I agree I am pretty proficient with pen and paper and switching to a graphics tablet was still a difficult transition lucky my laptop is touchscreen and allows for use of a pen so that bridged the gap for me and I got rid of my graphics tablet as the time wasn't available to adjust to the learning curve involved in using one

    Nice video, i started using a HUION tablet a while ago.
    Personally i got used to sketching on it relatively fast. It took me a few hours of just sketching and tracing, but when you get the hang of it it works really nice. Especially when tracing or adding annotations/arrows to plans. I think it brings the digital and analog closer together.

    I got one this year and returned it right away haha. I wanted to go digital to de-clutter my desk from all the trace and sketchbooks, but this was not a great choice. I ultimately got a s6 lite tablet on sale for Black Friday and now sketch on the concepts app. It’s so great! Really helpful to go through concepts throughout the design process. You can also upload images or PDFs so it’s rly great for exporting clay renders and then sketching over them! Highly recommend the tablet + concepts app workflow for other architects and designers

    Hey! I'm an Architect, urban designer and now an Assistant professor and I usually use an Ipad air 3 with the 1st gen pencil which works perfectly for me as I use it mainly for sketching over designs and drawings which is an immediate requirement considering the current situation. It also comes in handy to explain things over zoom classes giving you the exact pen and paper feel.

      @ShowItBetter  Před 3 lety +1

    • @swathir1633
      @swathir1633 Před 3 lety

      @@ShowItBetter yea it sure is! I believe that though a graphic tab gives you a better compatibility across all devices, an ipad gives you the freedom to explore other softwares/applications too that are specific to sketching apart from the freedom to sketch over sheets/screens in zoom calls.
      P.S : there is actually a way to use your iPad as a secondary screen for windows operated laptop/desktop and that works just fine for files you have on Ps.

    Thanks so much! I was just looking for someone to actually describe whether you get used to not having a screen on the long term or not. You made me think that, in case you get used to looking at your front screen while drawing, it might be actually better for two reasons to not buy an expensive tablet with screen: 1) a screen would be more delicate and I imagine be less portable + might get outdated earlier; 2) it's probable more ergonomic to keep your neck and head straight while keeping your arm horizontal on the table. While with a screen one even if getting an mechanic arm support you still have to look at your screen while using the pen on it at the same time, which in general might not be the best position for our bodies when working in architecture/design (long hours).

    • @ShowItBetter
      @ShowItBetter  Před 3 lety +3

      exactly! if it does have a screen then it can be pain for your neck over time....so it has its pros and cons

  • @PatricioChantrill
    @PatricioChantrill Před 3 lety +1

    Practice, practice, practice. That's the key to train your brain how to draw on the tablet what you want to see on your screen. You will feel like doing preschool at first, but your drawings will finally come through.
    The size of the tablet doesn't really matter. Since you map the tablet to your screen, I'd say a bigger tablet is only worth it if your screen is larger than 15".
    For architecture my only problem is drawing consistent straight lines in specific angles like when doing axonometric views. Does anybody have a good tip for that? Thanks,
    Great video!

    I have fixed the problem of a slipery tablet surface. I bought a Gaomon S620 tablet. I then got a piece of cheap A4 printing paper. I cut a length of 145mm off it. The width of the paper is perfect so it does not need to be cut. I got some Blue Tack. I stuck the paper to the pad in the corners with the Blue Tack. I added Blue Tack in the mid points of the perimeter of the pad to help keep the paper down. I didn't put any Blue Tack on the writing surface of the pad at all. I just put it on the perimeter to hold the paper down. You can write on the paper in the normal way with your special pen. It works. You now have that paper feel. It now has the friction that makes it easier to draw or write on without that slipery feel of the plastic.

I bought a Gaomon M10k cause It's "cheap" and have a touch ring, cause I knew pan a zooming would be a big issue. So it worked perfect on Sketch Up, only problem is that zooming go always to the center of the screen, not to the center of the pen cursor as expected. autoCAD work ok, unless u have to pan or zoon Which for any architect it's almost all the time of our work.

The nice thing about a graphic tablet is the pen sensitivity and feel that you can almost draw anything, and if you are not going to use it, and mostly use it to click, then it may not be worth it. On the contrary, when I use the pen selection tool, polygonal lasso tool, or anything similar in photoshop (clicking most of all) it is really fun and a bit faster. This is probably the answer you don't want to hear, but I have seen very good results from Lumion and Enscape, on many different scale projects and in high detail. It may come down to analyzing what you are looking for in these types of programs. Saving time? Realistic features? High quality assets? Productive workflow between programs? Also you would need to understand what are your strong points as an architect doing the renders in the office. Are you good at understanding composition, color, lights and what a "good" render feels like? Are you good at modeling, texturing, or adding detail? Have you worked before in other real time rendering software like Enscape, Twinmotion ? What projects is your firm typically working on? Is it residential architecture where you constantly produce specific images with specific assets ? Urban projects where you use a lot of vegetation and need a program that runs smoothly with a very heavy 3d model?
      Sorry for complicating your question, but I think this analysis is important before recommending you which one you should stay with.

      @@faisalhossainrizvi852 well I haven’t used my iPad mini for architecture related work other than watching movies BUT if I was to get one of the newer iPads, I would DEFINITELY include it in my workflow !

    The thing is, before you buy something like this, you actually need to know how to draw...
    If you want something fancy just stick with a Moleskine...

      I think if you know how to draw it can help you a lot, BUT I wouldn't discourage anyone who still wants to get one. In the end, it is possible to practice every day (just like with actual drawing on paper) and eventually you will be better.
