Keep looking. House attached storage you can't use means you'll have the owner/manager in and out whenever they decide they need in the storage area.

Shared Master bath. Window AC units, not inverter/split systems. No screens on most windows. Storage units of auntie will breed bugs/vermin. Nanny bedroom better as pantry. I'd give it a pass.

As far as the screens are concerned get them made on aluminium frams and have them put on the inside with hindges so you can open and close .

    Nice house - big rooms . 😀
I would be concerned how often - someone would be coming to the storage room . I would want my privacy - not someone showing up - anytime.

There is a way to put screens night cuz I have them windows on my second house in Winthrop Harbor Illinois and I had the bars 2 first off it depends on if the windows open out or open in then you can get like maybe some half inch wood by maybe the enhancer to and just go around the outside if they open in and you're screwing into the wood

I have seen screens used for sliding patio doors that close with magnets. I think you just secure them from the top and they hang straight down with a little weight embedded in them. Then to close there are magnets that secure the left/right sides of the screen. That may be an option for not only the french windows, but the main door as well. Best of luck.

I appreciate hearing you say that staying in the Philippines long-term, you'll be spending much of your time in your house. Where you live really should be as nice and pleasant as possible. I also liked hearing that you improve where you live, and that you're an ideal renter who leaves a house in better shape than you found it.
I've enjoyed many of your videos over the past few years, but it's been a while now. I see you've experienced some changes and weathered them well I hope. It really does appear that you have. I appreciate your good humor, your story telling, and you have that great "tell it like it is" manner. I also hope to cross paths with you some day, and extend my very best wishes to you for a wonderful present day there in your lovely town. Keep playing your guitars!!!
Please keep making great video for so many to enjoy. We really do need them now!!!

`I like the pink house more. You could ziptie screen material to those inside bars. Might not be 100% effective to stop all bugs but it would be better than no screens.

  • @marshallsislandadventures798

I'm near downtown, north side, and it does make a pleasant difference (I had been initially living in Daro).
It's difficult for some to conceptualize a place that's cluttered with items that won't be kept, and needing cleaning and painting. Seems like you look past those roadblocks though. I hate painting, but have somehow found myself attached to a brush and roller throughout my life. It's temporary and the benefits are lasting, so as long as you're good with it, it should be a non-issue, and something you could use when negotiating.
If you can solve the screen problem to your liking, everything else seems fine. I know you don't want to deal with dengue again. This is the Philippines, replete with dogs, cats and roosters, low water pressure, street noise and security concerns. You know what's acceptable and what's not. It's all about your own personal reality. Between the two of you, there shouldn't be too many surprises after making a decision. I would suggest you check the internet connection available - mine's a maximum of 10MB and reasonably reliable. From what I can determine, it seems that older downtown areas aren't being looked at for improvements any time soon. Pristine and modern would be nice, but there's a cost.
When I'm looking at houses, I take my temperature gun too. I brought it with me when I moved here after reading your suggestion in your manual. Thanks for that. We may even have the same model from what I saw.
It will be interesting to eventually see what you end up with. I imagine you have a new motivation to make whatever house you choose, a real home for your new family.

You are right in saying it will go fast, it’s a fixer upper but not ridicules. You know there aren’t many “MOVE IN CONDITION “ places for rent at reasonable prices. Question for you since you look at a lot of homes, and know a lot of people there, have you ever heard much about anyone finding bed bugs in the home or apartment they moved into?

  • @edgillis5699
    @edgillis5699 Před 3 lety

Not a construction guy but the screens seem to be an easy fix. Install inside security grates with an access gate to open windows. As for everything else seems a bit sketchy with Aunts storage etc...good luck with your search! You should be able to negotiate a good deal with no tourism so owners who rented short term are looking & would jump at a long term deal for less!! Because who knows when things will open up again.

You could build for around 100k usd with a good plan. That is what it took us over a 9 month build. Your not going to find a place to rent worth a damn. We knew before we moved here and bought a 1000 sq m lot for 18k usd from an Aussie's filipina wife in 2011. Title was good to go, we checked that right off and had our title by 2012. We moved here in 2017 and had the 1890 sq ft 3 br 2 ba house up moved in by 2018 for about 80 k usd (thats 800 php per sq m ;Back then a dollar was worth 40 php). That is about 300 usd a month for 20 years. Very glad we did and very fortunate we got it done before all this crap about a bad flu.
There is another 1000 sq m lot adjacent (corners touching)to us closer to the Letoundra beach resort for sale. The asking price is , I heard, 60 K usd. I think you could get for 40 or less like 20 is as good as it could get. We are sitting over an aquifer so you can have a drilled well and pump and pressure tank with very good water supply. Bacong also has a line to this place so we have 2 water sources. There are other lots all around but these have nothing next to them, no noise. One important thing we have here is a good building team, carpenter and helpers also an architect with connections in the government office. It made all the difference in the world. They all live within walking distance and were very reliable working 6 and 7 days a week. We are 200 meters from Nat Rd south so it is easy to have material delivered. We even blessed the corner stones according to religious traditions.
I kept daily cost in a spread sheet to control spending but in truth we could not stop the project or it would never get done. Do now or die is the rule.
Kids change things in life. A solid base is needed. They like to "disassemble stuff". Over the coarse of raising children you need a home of you own. It needs to be bullet proof to stand up to what a kid can do.

That's why I opted for having my own property rather than renting. No matter what they say, owing is way better than renting, even if renting is cheap in Philippines. In the end, you are on you own property and any improvements you do are yours and you are in full control. You can also make any changes you want. Of course, my main property is on a beach so I it's perhaps not for everyone but my other properties are in the city and I still think I'm better off owning them than renting. Perhaps it's something to think about - rather than putting your money in a hospital shares, maybe it's better to invest in a property that you can own outright and enjoy. Weil, it's what I do and I've been there way before you - 2010 :-)

I guess it would behoove the owner to slap on a fresh coat of paint and make the place a little more presentable to the potential tenant.

Dieselman so true. However, i personally would rather pay more for a nice newer comfortable house than a cheap depressing one. But whatever toot Ned’s horn.😁 the barking dogs, burning
trash/leaves, kareoke, roosters and nosy neighbors, thats Philippine norm. Can’t run and hide ‘em.

Here in PH... yu need the security. Gates, doors, grilles... 'specially for a foreigner. If yu want nice things, yu need to protect them. Even the jalousie windows I've heard abt someone removing each one of them to slip inside n rob the place ... so yea....security is a must here

mark friedem i agree but but i am against grills. It makes your house ugly. Like a prison. I don’t have grills in my house but I do have a fence. Its a bonus to have good neighbors. I a big city, yes, you need them. My house is in Panglao, pretty quiet place. And if the thieves wants to steal stuff, then that’s their gamble :)

Exactly and they do exist here but for some reason he seems attracted to the low end depressing type homes! Not put a down just an observation. But everyone has different standards. And he gives a tour like it's the best thing since slice bread, I always find it amusing.
