You know they are loud at the tracks but you don’t realize how loud they are untill it’s just one by itself

Went to a Bristol night race a few years back...tried to see how long I could go without putting on/in my hearing protection...barely a lap. It was a tad loud.
I love the sound of that engine/exhaust. Those engines that are optimized for high RPM have such a nice rumbly-burbley sound at idle.

Yeah sometimes the race car can stall the engine when it dropped to 2k or 3k rpm because the engine was made for high revving and fuel eater

For explanation of the noise, racing camshafts open the engine’s valves further and longer / exhaust and intake valves are open for a longer time period. A normal camshaft does the opposite. It’s why it creates that loping sound. The performance advantage is only gained at high speed and makes idling impossible.
From the comments, you’d think every single car didn’t have a camshaft/s. BTW, even with a crazy cam, it is possible drive it slowly without stalling, but he’d have to be more aggressive with the throttle and make extra noise, which I’m guessing he did not want to.

Most nascars have 750 to 900 horsepower and it doesnt cost as much as a house to put power into a motor dude im a mechanic and i have a 1995 honda accord 2 door have about 1000 horsepower under the hood i have a 5.3 LS V8 with cast iron heads a performance camshaft performance oil pan 4 barrel holly carb flow tech long tube headers in the works of a supercharger but turbocharged and a carbon fiber roll cage and AWD and 6 speed manual tranny 13,224$ that honda is fast asf
I'm realizing now that I'd never be able to work at a NASCAR track in any capacity with this racket going on multiplied 40 times. I love wild and crazy cars, but I love my hearing more.

Literal music to my ears. Nothing has compared in my opinion, to listening to NASCAR engines, this coming from a hardcore fan of the sport. I've been to a couple races in person and this sound when they start the cars up and as they race and fly by you in the stands... NOTHING else like it in my eyes 👍👍

I took my 2002 S10 pickups 2.2 liter out & gave it to my brother in law for his older S10 that had a Tired 4 cylinder..he helped me put a 350 modified V8 we got from a wrecked Vette..that was 5 years ago & my S10 still turns heads when people hear that race cam & headers idle..PS..I've eaten a few Camaros & Mustangs for Lunch😛
I lightly modded the og 4.3l and would surprise sports cars all day, and then help them move a couch. The S10 was fun, I miss the heck out of it and wish I'd kept it around.

So for the younger fans or just anybody not familiar. I raced 25yrs 20 under sponsorship. Starting in stock in the 90s. But I blew up 6 cars in 97’ 3-4: 98’ 2 in 99’ and even some into the 2000s. People don’t realize because we finally figured it out in the late 90s of how to make an engine last. The reason the Daytona 500 was so hard. It’s not a driver skill track. It was hard because it was extremely difficult to build a car that could go wide open 500 miles. People can’t appreciate how difficult it truly is. In 1998 we really got it down. If you look under a hood you will see a ton of hoses and lines running all over the engine. That’s oil lines. We finally figured out you gotta pump oil non stop all over everything to make the car last 500-600miles. It’s extremely hard on them. I still have burn scars on my feet from getting burned threw the floor which will still happen today. After we got heat shields it helped a lot. But the exhaust running under and brake temp it’s 140-160deg depending on the day. It’s like a frying pan. So when I hear fans grandstand driving it pisses me off because they have no idea what it’s like making decisions I’m a frying pan. In 1999 I had a skull fracture after 185g crash and luckily I recovered and made it back after 1-1/2 yrs. but the mental toll you can’t appreciate.
Quarantine brings me here and teaches me about racing in a public highway.

Most of those Busch and nascar cams are huge duration cams, like 318/330 adv. And 278/286 @ .50
Hell they dont even smooth out until 4500 to 5000 rpm, that's why it's so choppy🤤😬😎👍

Regardless of the cage and shell it's wearing, that's what a real race car sounds like. A lot of others have already pointed out this is the show car. What they mean is this chassis is either, 1) too old to actually race, or hasn't been updated to keep up with the rules package and it just has the current-year body shell and paint job on it, OR is purpose-built to be taken to public events. If they took this chassis to any given race the chances of the car passing inspection to be raced are low.
In the top 3 NASCAR Touring series, it's pretty common to have at least 1 chassis for just the purpose of taking to events for show. The low-budget teams or teams within lower series will often use the actual race car as the show car

May I present to you with a very British Roll Royce V8, a rather economic 27litre/1648Ci supercharged unit producing in later units,1800-2000hp and 1550-1700ft/lbs of torque. The American Airforce did the opposite to Carrol Shelby, they built an airframe and dropped a British engine into in, The P51 Mustang had a 1650 Merlin, although Packard built it.
