And the irony is the people who are paying lakhs of rupees in terms od income tax a year, again tax paud to all commodities being bought, services that are really highly paid to Bescom, Bwssb charges ro building tax even if you dont enjoy Kaveri water or drainage connection. People blame about people migrating to Bangalore but dont have a problem locals selling land likr halwa in terms of 30X40, 50X60 in asking black market blown up rate. Migrants work their ass out to meet their ends. The so called elite members blame migrants but dont have problem with so many cab drivers , auto drivers , house keeping staffs, security etc being paid by companies and malls across Bangalore. With just locals no business will run here in todays glory. So stop blaming migrants for the urbanisation. I know many cab drivers from near by small town who are living in Bangalore and leading a decent life in their hometown because of earning they have from their job. If borewells are illegal then system is failing big time in stopping these goons. Over penetration of bores for commercial water supply to big apartments from last few years is causing this ground water issue. What to do when department fail to supply water ? People in east dont drink or take bath? First the elite locals go and stop illegal migration then talk about migrants who are living by paying their hard earned money.

I think they have covered lack of regulation and enforcement in the video by BWSSB and lack of drought plans and city planning. As a news agency, they cannot talk about corruption unless they have solid proof about it, we can obviously talk in public discourse because most of us know the bribes that different agencies take to look sideways when some builders and corporations are illegally making borewells.
Let’s assume we blame all levels of government, basis this, an optimistic view is government will make more pipelines to the city and pump in more water. Pessimistic view is that government doesn’t do anything about it. Anyway, politicians will not act on it unless people hold them accountable by voting on such issues rather than on non essential issues.
In either case, is it a sustainable solution if usage of every resident is unchecked?
It should be a combination of education, governance, regulation and enforcement and future city planning but huge work should also be done by residents to change life long habits and also help with rainwater harvesting and ground water rejuvenation.

Chennai solved this with Rain water harvesting. All reasons not to do it are lame excuses.
The so called expansion reported in this video is not expansion, but an increase in the density of population.
The civic planning and administration authorities have been sanctioning the disappearance of waterbodies that held and complemented the water table for decades.
It's high time that the civic planning authorities realise they are doing very little to mitigate the risk of floods during the monsoon and in peak summer the exact opposite is in play.
Somewhere someone isn't doing what they are paid to do. The easy thing to do is blame governments.

Suggesting that ground water is “shallow”, I.e easily accessible due to “pipeline leakage” shows she has no grasp on reality. Also shipping water across the city in diesel trucks is prohibitively expensive, not to mention the huge pollution and traffic congestion that it would cause. Strict enforcement of rules is the only way. We have people flaunting the ground water harvesting rules and building associations routinely connect their sewage lines to storm water lines causing the immense pollution of our lakes. Government corruption is the root cause. Madam Layalalitha has shown us how effective administration can effectively solve this problem. South India is not water stressed. It is only poorly managed.
