Didn't realise ridgebacks were so rare. My piggy is a ridgeback and I just got him from a regular pet shop. Considering myself lucky!

Next time you get a pet, please adopt, or if you really want a purebred buy from a responsible breeder. Many of the animals at pet stores come from cruel warehouses or mills. They tend to be unhealthy too. Another benefit of adopting is you get to save a life! Also, many shelters animals come vaccinated and desexed already 🙂

A few years back I got an Abyssinian and a Teddy (I think), which were both males, or so I was told. They ended up getting babies, as the Teddy one turned out to be a girl. All the babies looked like Abyssinians, but with their mother’s colors ❤️
I neutered the male, so he could live with his “wife” and his kids. The one female baby lived together with her parents, and the two male babies I had to rehome. So that’s the story of how I bought 2 males, ended up with 1 male and 2 females 😂 Anyway, loved them every day they lived with me. Even adopted an old female piggy, so she could live her last days in a herd. The male, Marvin, died a few weeks ago at 6 years old. He was the last piggy from the herd, and I miss him so much 💔
Abyssinians are my favorite breed of piggy, but I don't have one at the moment. Iris, the one in my channel picture, won seven awards at pet shows. The judges were amazed to see an all-silver, red-eyed Abyssinian female. When she died, I actually got condolence cards from judges who had seen her in the past.
I'm down to 3 piggies at the moment, two American Shorthaireds (Dexter and Gizmo) and one American Crested (Cookie). I had a male Coronet (Buddy) but he died unexpectedly three weeks ago. I still miss seeing him "popcorn" during floor time because it was like watching a wig bounce.

I have two ridgeback Guinea pigs and I didn't know till I saw this video! I adopted them from the RSPCA, and the breed was listed Unknown :O

Haha! I loved this! Ever since I got Ellie I've tried so hard to find his breed and there wasn't one so I'm like "you are a mix breed lil one" and gave up. He has like long fur on his butt but it's shortish everywhere else and he has 1 rossette on his side which makes him look like a long haired ridgeback 😂😂

Oh my gosh! My guinea Pumpkin (I call him Pumpi) is a ridgeback! He looks almost exactly the same as the picture but he has grey fur and not brown! I feel so lucky to have him!

Me too. Towards his butt, it naturally gets browner, so poor thing always looks like he's dirty. I guess he's an albino too & yeah,he does have a swirly thing towards the end. But he's my cutie & wuv him.hes like idk my more child like one of my two g.pigs. my other one, the American, he's cute too. But he's got his different ways about him & is more chill. He's more adventurous & less scared. The Peruvian is a "cuddler" tries to play bully & is less brave. Those two things trying to escape is like American: zooooom! Peruvian: wobble, wobble...

I have 1 ridgeback guinea pig and one smooth haired one
My guinea pigs are both mixed, Minnie is an American and a sheltie/silkie guinea pig, my other guinea pig Cookie is a Swiss guinea pig! :)

OMG I have a ridgeback named Optius prime but I didn't realize he was that uncommon!I got him from pets at home!
One of my piggies looks like an American but she does have a raised ridge of hair along her back, her face seems more pointed than an American too

LuLu Brennan out of curiosity, which type of guinea pig do you have? Is it a mixed breed? Sometimes people won’t associate mixed breeds as an official guinea pig breed because they are so rare and unique. Depending on whether or not it’s mixed, you could have a very rare and unique guinea pig that most other people probably don’t have.

@@zsand0123 He passed away, but he was fully black and had fine sleek hair and it was only long at his butt, i remember at one point it was 5 and a half inches long coming off his bottom, i had to cut it often to prevent him getting tangled of poop hanging off it.

I have:one crested,2 abisidian and 1 texle but the crested has a ridge on its back and the texle has short hair?can u get short hair texles

AHHHGG I saw a female ridge back at petco a few days ago with another small female and I wanted the ridge back so bad I'm hopeing it's still there because in two days I'm going to get two female guinea pigs I would have gotten it right then but I wasn't aloud to because I don't have my cage yet but tomorrow I will at 8pm so I have to wait another day and I'm going to get the Guinea pigs with my friend in two days i really hope there still be there mehgggg

Uh, question: Is my guinea pig a mixed breed because he has the rosette like the Crested, but he is three different colors, cinnamon brown, chocolate brown, and white, and the ring is white but so is the rest of his face, and his body is cinnamon and chocolate brown. He has short, smooth hair, and no other rosettes anywhere else. I was wondering if he was a mix between a American and a Crested

my guinea pig is very strange instead of the thingy on the america piggie ears thats kinda curled on one side my guinea pig's is the opposite side my guinea pig has a 3 colored creasant on his head nut thats behind his ears and it has 2 or three colors 1black2white3brown which is the color of his entire fur

but which one has the most softest hair
so my first gp was a coronet named rocko that i got for free......i later found out she was fairly rare.....i also had a standard shorthair named duke and a texel named stumpy.....i would not recommend texel or any of the curly haired ones

You didn’t put a breed under the smooth category.
You didn’t add the Himalayan guinea pig, it looks like a Siamese cat but in a guinea pig version. You may have never heard or thought that could exist but it does but they are extremely rare and they are really hard to find. I have one so I should consider myself lucky.
Another really rare one under the smooth category is a Dalmatian, it’s like the Dalmatian dog breed but it’s a guinea pig, they are even more rare that Himalayan because it’s hard to breed the tiny dots for fur because it usually ends up looking like patches just like the “original” American guinea pig.
