  • This is how I make my water for my water scenes. I would advise you if you use the same materials to READ the instructions and follow them.
    This is pour 1. In around 12 hours or so I will load the video showing pour 2.

      Thank You! It really was not allot of work just allot of waiting in between steps. I started it 1 week ago. It actually took me about 6 hours of actual labor. I make these for local modelers and might expand out to all. I have been making them on foam to the size they want and when it is ready they just set it on their layout cut around it and place it in the hole. And they have an instant water scene.

    I've never used this Envirotex.. I used the all in one bottle and it never seemed to completely cure months later if it was a very hot day. In the future I think I'll try this product.

      @JohnsRailroad  Před 3 lety +1

      It works for me but I’m sure there’s always issues with any of that kind of product but I found it’s probably been the most reliable product I have ever used. It still can have issues but I have had very little issues with it.

    very nice work John. do you pour scenic glue over the rocks to lock them down? or do you put them on top of white glue?

    • @JohnsRailroad
      @JohnsRailroad  Před 3 lety +2

      I never use scenic glue on anything but I do use watered down white glue. Much cheaper buying a gallon jug of it from the hardware store. My mix ratio is about 75% water and 25% glue mixed. And yes I do glue them down in place first. You want to make sure your glue is dry. Overnight is usually good. FYI: If you pour your resin water down and find you dont have enough rock just put more on top of the poured water. They will sink down in. I did a ton of that on my big river scene. Thanks again.

    I didn't realize the Environtex has a shelf life. I bought mine many years ago and never got around to building my HO harbor scene until recently.
    Now I am pretty concerned whether I should use it or not. It wasn't cheap (as you probably know) and I hate to see it go to waste. Have you ever used something way past the one year shelf life. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

      @JohnsRailroad  Před rokem

      Yes I knew that. It is tough to buy when you know they will likely expire but I have used 3 year old stuff. My current River was my oldest stuff I ever used. I did add a bit more hardener to it. Also I made sure the room where it was very warm. It still came out good. Just make sure you mix it really well. I stirred about 5 min longer than what they said. This is what I did so use your own judgement.

    Great work beautiful Layout .. By the way When i make pond after sometime or few months Bubbles comes out so many and big bubbles . Anybody can help or know why ? . Thanks

    • @JohnsRailroad
      @JohnsRailroad  Před 3 lety +2

      Oh no! I thought I was the only one that happen to. That happen to me using Woodland Scenics deep water pour. 9 friggen months later a huge group of bubbles appeared just overnight. I was pissed. I cut the section out and switched to this product and it never happened again. They said poor mixing. I did not agree. Possible conflict between layer mix amounts though. So now I use this only. One thing you can do if you still have room enough for pouring another layer is seal over the top of it and re-pour with a new product. That is why I never totally fill the water basin just in case of an issue. Thanks!

    • @JohnsRailroad
      @JohnsRailroad  Před 3 lety +1

      Like I said I am glad to know I was not the only one it happen to. Now I know it likely is a product that is difficult to use and has negative long term affects. Sorry we both had to deal with it. FYI I used 4 boxes of it before realizing the issue. I still have a box left. Might just a swell toss it out.

    What did you use to treat the base do the resin didn’t eat thru?

    • @JohnsRailroad
      @JohnsRailroad  Před rokem +1

      I dont remember for sure but I think I sculpt a molded it then just painted it. I generally pour right directly onto the pink foam. zNever really had any issues with this product. The woodland scenics water will require much more treatment and patients. I had too many bad experiences with their products. Now I only use epoxy resins like Envirotex. Never had a problem with it. Just follow directions.
