Vtubing is just a goldmine of endless controversy and legal problems. Between young, inexperienced, and stupid people suddenly getting tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars over a very short span of time to greedy japanese black companies with their heinous business practices and broken work culture mentality, there is no end to issues.

It would solve so many problems at once, right?
Jingo gets a lucrative direct commission from a client who can afford to pay what her work is worth. Fillian gets a character she actually owns, but with a branding tie to the model that she spent years promoting, and rigged by the same person who did the model she's used to. The X-Drama tabloid circuit gets a feel-good human interest story, with a pithy moral about the value of working together with people who might have been seen as enemies. Everybody wins.
I haven't seen Jingo mention any of that. She just said that she canceled the production of the Nendroid, and won't take any legal action since all she wants is to protect her copyright.
But I really do hope that Filian has commissioned another model where she will own the copyright

The issue is Filian has been fully aware for a long time it was not a free model and she's using a pirated version, she has admitted it on stream.

Going on with the rate vtubers/hololive are dominating worldwide, i can't wait to see how huge it gets. I have an idea that more stadiums can have more events like Hololive night once a month for fans and it can be a more effective and local means for fans to get together and enjoy their favorite oshis and associated teams! I lean on Filian being foolish because she's proven to be foolish in a lot of other things she's done in the past. She's repeatedly demonstrated that she acts before she thinks and can be very poor at thinking long-term, like that time she got kicked out of an apartment because she got the lease term wrong and/or had a miscommunication with the manager. Also, VRChat is rife with copyright theft so its entirely possible that she didn't know what license the Rindo model has.

When you come into a hobby, the thing you're _SUPPOSED_ to do is "When in Rome, do as the Romans." Especially if you're are new and learning the ropes. The problem is that hobbies are being invaded by people who have absolutely no prior interest in the hobby and have no interest in actually learning it. All they are interested in is controlling it and using it to profit and/or spread a message, which destroys the hobby because the original fans aren't interested.

I think Gura, Suisei, & Pekora were chosen for their color scheme, would love to see the other colors going to other sport teams.

Gura is the Vtuber with the most subscribers, not only in Hololive but in the world. She is also important in being the English speaker since this is an US event.
Pekora has been the most watched female streamer, vtuber or not, more than once.
Suisei is also one of their biggest talents showing great growth but I think for this event the reason she was chosen other than the blue theme would be the fact that she is among the most mainstream/casual/normie friendly. You can enjoy music even if you are not into anime girls streaming. She has been in several increasingly mainstream music programmes and events in Japan as well.

in my opinion about filian(not a hater),it is good to protect the copyrights of the characters, the artist should get some royalties/incentives in the form of respect as an artist. I hope Cover does a collab with the San Diego Padres. The three I would have is Mori Calliope, Inugami Korone, and Nekomata Okayu. Why those three? Mori is the obvious choice since we associate her being Dad, and the Padres are also associated with Dads. Korone and Okayu are a Dog-Cat pair, just like the mascots from PETCO (the company).
The only bad thing is timing - obviously Cover would want to time their collab to the San Diego Comic-Con. But Comic-Con is so huge, the Padres actually always go on the road when it comes into town. They tried one time to have game during the Con (a Wednesday game on Preview Night) and Traffic in Downtown ended up being so bad - they never tried doing it ever again.

It would be foolish to actually use something that is public domain without modification as part of your brand, and the agency should have prevented her from doing it (if they had known). It's a huge risk to your brand if anyone else can just use the exact same image for their own purposes.
That's like using a clipart image for your logo. Nothing stops anyone else in the world from using the exact same image and now you look like you're associated with them.

Chances are Fillian just dint put any thought into it, shes probably super busy and just didn't think of it. But Goodsmile for sure should have brought up the issue to her before hand. And FIllian should have gotten a new model by now or purchased full commercial rights. At this point the best thing to do is to purchase full commercial rights to the model and character, and if the original artist tries to way over charge, then to fully remodel. (Not that she should pay a low price, fillian is big enough to pay very well).
At the end of the day, its not the model t hat made fillian popular, that's all her on being entertaining.

There is no "full commercial rights" for Rindo or Mint. She would have to agree to give the OG creators part of the profits and contact them each time she wants to make merchandise based on the models. Her best bet is to just get an original model made, she has been streaming for far too long to have not already done this.
For the clip from a old stream where filian said she illegally ripped the model from vr chat and downloaded software ( that she also probably stole) to start doing vtubing, i don't see how that needs a right context. .. for exapmle, let's say she had admitted to selling drugs.. it would still be illegal, even if the if the context was she did it to raise money for a charity or something

Considering that the artist hasn't said word one suggesting that they think Filian is violating their copyright by using the model to vtube with, I think maybe everyone should just leave them to it?
the software that she used was probably a modded client of vrchat that allows users to steal the avatar ID that was stored on the unity server and let you access its files. Hackers used to go into public worlds of vrc and just sit in corners while scalping through avatar ids of interesting edited models that they wanted to steal this was pretty common in vrc I'm unsure if anything new was created or if this issue was ever resolved.
I'm sure that if people were to go around and ask active vrc users where to find the client you would be able to get access to it eventually(mostly because the users of those types of modded clients like to show off their stolen goods). If it ever ends up in court it would be pretty easy to prove the existence of a program that allows you to steal other people's avatars but that's up to the lawyers to duke it out at that point.
In any case this incident could have been prevented in so many simple ways that how it got to this point just baffles my mind and no being dumb is not a valid excuse as a public figure Fillian just f'ed around and found out real quick that she could not get keep getting away with the issue of having her own model especially for a channel of her size.

I understand the concern people have about more people coming in and ruin a community. It's important to gatekeep, but more so it's important to know who you need to gatekeep out. It's not normies coming in and ruin a hobby, it's woke-cultist-activists who want to ruin everything by forcing it to conform with their marxist worldviews.
I think you're wrong, or at least only half-correct. The woke types are already heavily involved in he vTubing space, so if you're trying to gatekeep them out then it's a lost cause.
But the bigger concern is the corporate types who will want to sanitize everything to make it brand friendly and more palatable to the Western mainstream audience who are easily influenced by yellow journalism style hit pieces and the like, which are undoubtedly coming this way.
Ultimately this will be good for the shareholders and the talent to the extent it filters down to them. But if you like vTubing for what it is now, then be prepared for heartbreak.
I agree with the general sentiment. But the crazy ones you wish to keep out are already in. The crazies are already trying but failing to change things for the worst. Only thing keeping their insanity in check is their lack of support. Currently, the only way for the crazies to have considerable support is to play nice with the wider fan base. Most current fans are just the normal type that only want to enjoy their oshis. The thing that could upset this status quo is the introduction of any major corporation whose only goal to do political pandering. These corporations could very easily give more support to the crazies and even turn them into vtubers with vast resources to back them up. Keeping the corporations out is the key to keeping the community at least somewhat civil. Specially when it comes to the independent sphere of vtubers.
As long as there are no major vtubers that are constantly pandering to the crazies, the percentage of schizos won't rise to significant enough numbers to spread perpetual cycles of drama.

Fillian is a comedian with an edgy sense of humor; even if it turns out to be related to the model, saying "ripped it illegally" could just have been negative exaggeration for the sake of the giggles, while in honesty still firmly believing it was public domain. What kind of talent agency doesn't verify the legality of the assets being used by their members? I would assume the first step in being brought on after signing would be to confirm names attached to the talent on the vtuber scene. What if the modeler is a p*do.
