Amazing work G :D
Thanks, baybay! Need to get me sen over to Grimdice at some point soon!
@@MSPaints just let me know when, I'm sure Sammy would tag along too. It's saved the towns hobby scene.
@@krisweavill5714 I will mate!
Skip a step if you get 50% isopropyl alcohol and use that fluid to make your 50-50 mix of PVA and water, just use the 50% isopropyl instead. In effect you get 50% PVA, 25% isopropyl, 25% water.
Thanks for the tip!
Nice,I’ll try this in the future!
This is what I think every time I see this process. Is this true??
Along those same lines, I've wondered if it would be prudent to add the first basecoat of brown paint into the final plaster/modeling compound, for speed but also so that chipped plaster just reveals more basecoat rather than stark white.
I love how this captures the look of 2001 Games Workshop, but not cartooney or tacky. Probably because the flock doesn't look radioactive! Really nice build :)
woodland scenics remain the gold standard in terrain making, they do a nice little paint set specifically for colouring plaster in earth tones for cliffs etc that's really good. also, never thought I'd be telling other people to buy this as I only got it because it was 2nd hand and cheap, but their little vacuum they sell with filters so you can get all the flock back that doesn't glue so you don't waste it, actually works!
Epic build! I walked by you in the streets of York yesterday. I should have said hi but didn’t overly realise until we had already crossed paths 😅 Keep up the great work!
Haha! Happens now and again, feel free to say hi next time. I look angry when I’m walking, but that’s just because I’m walking!
I love your line "Mother Nature doesn't give a $#!^ so why should you"! So many people think every minute detail has to planed out and done oh so perfectly and miss out on the randomness that is nature. It's ok to plan out what general area you wont to put something so long as your willing to let flocking fall where it may.
Pumpkin stems make great DIY tree trunks and now is the time of year to start looking for them. Look for ones that are at least 3 inches tall so a human sized mounted model can be played under the lowest branches.
I've made some of the most realistic and durable trees by using them this way.
Amazing! Thank you!!
That’s such a good idea! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Donr feel bad about your leopard spotting. Sometimes subtle rock colours are better over all
that's sweet board
Im about 5 months into the WH40K hobby and i just found your channel, ive been binging your content for couple of days now. Dude you absolutely rock, your videos are so informative and im learning alot. I even dived into basing my models now, i used to just put some grass tufts to my bases but now im redoing every single one, youve helped me alot! Thank you my friend, i wish you all the best!
Thank you bud! I’m glad you’re enjoying the journey and finding my stuff useful! Ribbit!
Your videos have such an impressive quality to them & you incorporate so many great shots into your work. Nobody’s doing hobby content on this level & all through the struggle of MS! You are a Hobby Hero in every sense of the word.
Fantastic board. So many nice lessons in this video; things like "mix the flocks for realism" and "trust the wash to mellow out" are so good. Nicely done
I really dig the background music from “Brotherhood Of The Wolf” at the beginning. Amazing coincidence, I just this morning loaded that DVD into the player in my bedroom so I don’t forget to watch it tonight, because I haven’t seen it in a while. Crazy! (Oh yeah, great video, too- thanks mate!)
3:38 i know the feeling man. I find they my knees can lock up on occasion and it stings like hell standing up when it happens. I'm not even old, in my mid 20s
I love the "Go Me" comment, it's good to have a positive self-talk. Nice work my man.
Love this Dave. Great work mate!
Looks amazing!
Great build video and awesome production! Thanks 🙂
I could watch board builds for hours. Very therapeutic to see it slowly come together. Think I'll have to give those trees a look
Great work man! Gotta love a classic board like this 😊
Nice work man. Have been really enjoying the Earth Stuff, and this board is spot on!
Excellent board! Came out really well.
That board looks amazing!
Dave That was great. I am an Aussie with a Pommy (English LOL) mate here that has JUST started his first foray into wargaming and I showed you this video. Loved it. He will subscribe to you ... and thanks for the inspiration for him :) cheers
Looking good Dave as usual with all your builds. Cheers for sharing now I'm off back to Orky land .
Great vid. Lots of good tips and inspiration. I’m going to upgrade from a green blanket with terrain on top. Thanks 😊
lovely board! thanks for sharing your process in bringing it to life
Awesome video 🤘 enjoyed watching it progress
Awesome looking table and love the slightly chaotic nature approach to the flocking.
I think we can overthink at times so love your simple and effective approach to the hobby which is something we can all learn as hobbyists. Well done
Morrisons own Cat Litter is perfect for largeish rock ground, and its hydroscopic (Ish) so absorbes the glue really well and cheap spray varnish sticks and holds it really wel as a top coat as well.
really great work, i loved your commentary on your process and artistic philosophy!
New to tabletop, just got into 40k and I'm tempting to dove right into building something similar! Thanks for the beautiful inspiration!
love your stuff man, alot of inspirartion in them hope you have a good day!!!
fantastic video. very inspiring!
I love watching you do all these projects I don't have the space or patience for.
It’s always a great pleasure watching you strategize, build, and paint and this was a great joy. Makes me want to try and make some small terrain to give my game board some life to it. Excellent work sir !
Thank you! I did actually strategise and make lists for this one. Cheers!
Just found your channel and love your attitude towards building these boards quite like the messy way you go about it organized mess is great 👍 amazing stuff mate 👏
That board turned out awesome!
Nostalgia hit.
Absolutely love it 👍
hey thanks man. this is my new favourite video of yours. It takes me back to the type of board I wanted to play on in high school, but we had to settle for the green blanket on some maths books instead.
I haven't made terrain, and your video has some awesome tips. I would have over invested in resin buildings, but you make those MDF ones feel part of the landscape. The tip on blending scatter is something I didn't know.
Thanks again.
Now I would need to try to do this!
Another top video dude, great stuff
Oh yes, I love a big, detailed old school board 👍 awesome work as always, mate!
Looks Fantastic bro!
love your terrain vids! I think you do a great job of explaining not only your process's but your thoughts and intial idea/brianstorming
Looks amazing mate, really love the board!
This was such a good video , I am starting to look into making big boards and something just to put my models on for fun. I am finding all your content very helpful and I love the production and presentation.
An awesome build, I really need to give this a shot!
Great project, came out amazing.
I'm amazed and impressed by how much time, effort and skill goes into making some game boards.
Brilliant results!
Brilliant!
Great vid again, nice one, really enjoyed middle earth month.
Love the board, a proper little bit of middle earth
Top notch board sir! Thank you for another great video.
Another belter mate, good to see Hector back
Wow this board looks fantastic
Thanks John!
I don’t even like LOTR and I love this video! Great work!!
Im starting a 38" x 40" table in anticipation to make a 6ft x 4ft table next year, so thankyou for all the tips!
The music is jamming. Pure fucking marmalade mate.
Both pieces of bread buttered and jammed up!
Great vid Dave!
Thanks Heather!
So awesome
Epic stuff, but no talking about boxes :D
That’s one rad board. Nice one Dave. The cliffs look dope
Woodland Scenics really does make the best trees.
The cheaper stuff is pretty hit and miss! These higher end ones are proper gorgeous though
Awesome video dude.
So freakin gorgeous!
Always a good day when a fresh vid drops! Also I am looking into making my own board as well so this is perfect!
Awwww yeee! This and the kill team board video give you plenty of options I should think.
Love your vids man!!!
great video, I really want to take the dive into a board when ihave some free time
"Should I hit like before I watch it? Yeah, probs. It's going to be good one way or nother."
Hahaha! Appreciate your confidence in me bud!
Looks awesome buddy
Something I've found when using PVA to make bases for my 6mm WW2 odds and sods is to mix a couple of drops of the good old washing up liquid in, works a real treat. But knees feel your pain brother...
I love your channel, sir. Been loving going through the older episodes and I CLICK THAT BELL for this channel.
Thanks Steven! Glad you’re enjoying them!
Lovely video
really nice job
Beautiful work man. Metal trees is interesting worked well. Loving the LOTR builds.
At my age, I can definitely relate to your struggle with your knees when getting up off the floor during these bigger projects.
Love the way you hack the bits you aren't happy with using stuff left over rom the project, like the rubble and the ivy.
Dear Dave, very good tutorial and inspirational! Best Wishes Johnny
Nice work
Quite an underrated channel I think I’m going to spam ms paint videos
F'kin knees! I hear you brother. Great board.
It is not every day that I leave a comment, but with the amount of effort you put in on this, it really looks amazing. I am busy with a 4x4 board for middle earth as well, but I am lazy. Printing mostly the building that I need, the trees on the other hand that might be a bit more of an issue. So your suggestion will most likely be followed. Keep up the great work.
I’d say printing buildings is a stronger effort than buying them! Haha. Good luck with the board chief!
Lord of the rings month every month
Love it :) I really should make a proper board myself, they always look much better than modular rivers/roads etc.
For cliff faces I would use weathering powders that would stick well to the plaster and looked very realistic when you combine a few colors. They seemed expensive for the amount of powder you get but my first purchase has lasted me 3 very large layouts.
M. S. Paints sent me! Great board, thinking of doing my first for AOF:Skirmish. Trying to get myself in on the cheap before investing in GW official games and such.
That was a wonderful way of finishing off my week. I would say I was inspired to build a board but more inspired to go look and talk about boxes 🤣
There’s always time to talk about more boxes haha
How about batch board building ? Have a whole bunch of them on the go we know you don't like doing things by halfs....😉
love it
Great looking board and easy enough to do. Defo giving GGS Luke a run for his money
Idea: Make a board you can transport in a BOX... Seriously love your videos👍👍
Very inspiring Big Guy!!!! Storage is my biggest problem. I suspect its yours too:)!!
Came for the hobby. Stayed for the Deadly Premonition OST.
'40k' cheeky cheeky :D fight that algorithm brother
Health and safety frog !♥️
I'd love to play on this
Awesome looking table Dave, very nice work indeed!
Aaaaaaay thanks Viv!!
@@MSPaints It's very inspirational! I've really been in a slump for the last 6 months, and only recently returned to watching CZcams on this channel for the first time in maybe four months or so ... and this was PERFECT motivation to fire up some mojo for the hobby!
@@KnightsOfDice Yes maaaaaate, have you been making content at all or you been totally out of the youtube loop bro?
@@MSPaints Totally out of the loop!
Thats a really nice board that dude, I made a couple of little shelf terrain things for my wall to display my age of darkness stuff the other day, and used foam clay to taper the various planes, similar to how you would use modelling compound. It doesn't hold fine sculpting well and it looks like fine styrene balls on the finish but it is really really light! with a little sand glued over it it looks great, and it can save a lot of weight if you want to make some light weight stuff for transporting :)
Been thinking of getting some foam clay but it seems to be reaaaaaaally expensive for what you get.
@@MSPaints yeah 15 quid for 560g is a bit steap, but it's nice to use in my opinion, the fact it's relatively clean and easy to use is also a bonus and if you're just using it to blend together platforms on rock formations made of styrene sheets, it'll go a surprisngly long way.
I did many model train layouts and I would put the grass down while the base brown or green paint wast still wet
Stellar work on this board; as always gives me plenty of inspiration on my own works!
When you make boards, do you find you often draw on real world/media references or do you prefer to come up with stuff more improvised or following a general theme of your choosing?
I’ll be honest I’ve never really thought about it. I’m fairly obsessive over old landscape oil paintings, maybe it’s something to do with that!
