I drove over the pass in the late 1970s. The twin tressels were scary to drive over. I did it in a regular car. It was a once in a lifetime thing.
Great hike as always!
Fantastic job and such great views and footage. Thanks so much. Really enjoy your videos a lot.
That was an absolute blast of a day. Thanks again for riding with me and showing me the sites. 6:00 "This is instantly hard" - hilarious and a severe understatement. When we got to the top, I'm not sure what was more blue -- the sky or my face. I appreciate that Nick was running around at the top naming mountains while I was sucking wind back into my lungs. And mostly I appreciate that you didn't video me at that moment as well. Hope next time we find something even more epic!
Thanks for doing that hellacious drive! And for not going over the edge. That was a really great day and I got some new perspectives of the land and some new ideas for hikes. Plus we topped it off with Antonios pizza! Thanks again, Mark!
So awesome that you and Mark could do this hike together.. It looks like you had awesome views the whole time! It's those kind of hiking videos that you post that make me homesick for Colorado!!!! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for taking us to the Eye of The Needle at Rollins Pass. We started to the pass with our Blazer in 1988 when you could still drive through the tunnel. On the approach, we had a flat tire. The spare was a small doughnut tire unsuitable for continuing on that gravel road and we turned around. As we were traveling west in I80 the next year with intentions of going over Rollins Pass we heard a news report on the radio that there had been a fire in the tunnel and it was closed. Aargh!! We never went back. Maybe we should now make the hike.
Goodness gracious. You drove on that rocky road with a doughnut tire? I mean, I don't know that if it happened to me that I would have had any other choice, but that had to be a gnarly drive!
Beautiful day and adventure. Your video is really making me miss summer, it was so short. You could hike the entire loop across the CDT but it's 17 miles. Some do it in a day. We backpacked to Heart Lake and hiked up Roger's Pass to the CDT then hiked over to Iceberg Lakes in August. We loved looking down on the lakes from above. Your mom would love Upper Forest Lake, JPW. We day hiked there last year. I think it's prettier than Upper Crater Lake. A lot less people too.
Thanks Vickie! I am editing my last summer hikes now and its making me miss it too. It was over so fast. But yes, I definitely want to do more hikes in that area. Maybe take it up past Forest Lakes all the way to top of tunnel and then across the top back to Rogers Pass snd back down. So many options!
JennAy was my best good friend
16:00 that’s the High Lonesome Trail. You’re less than 0.5mi from King Lake. I went up to Jasper last weekend (from Diamond Lake side) and met a group of hikers at the top who said they came from Crater Lake. That’s a long walk
I was just at Jasper yesterday and taking it up and around the High Lonesome loop seems really long. I would love to start from Rollins Pass and just tske the High Lonesome out to Devils Thumb and back. That seems much easier than starting at Hessie! And next year, King Lake is on the list.
The Trestles are so fun to walk on, and I’ve never seen that many cars up on Rollins Pass. Crazy! Good fun!
That's awesome we did it last year. We parked at the rocks that block the trail above Jenny lake. Next time you can enter from the winter park side and see the rifles notch it's a great trail ride. Thanks for sharing Nick!
Nick, I can't believe I'm the first one watching this and commenting! Gorgeous scenery and photography!! There was a Yankee Doodle Lake and a tunnel called the "Eye of the Needle" here. Is that Jenny lake you hiked up to? You really bring back some memories of Colorado. I always wanted to do this trip either by hike or 4WD but life had other plans! I wonder if all the black stuff on the rocks in the tunnel is soot from the steam engines? Some of those rock piles @ 6.37 were made by workers building the railroad? The history of Colorado and railroads is crazy!
@6.54, that's South and North Arapahoe peaks. You have been there.
Any plans to ever hike McHenrys Peak in RMNP?
Its looking doubtful. I dont think I can get it.
