I've watched this tutorial approximately 873858 times. I made a queen sized Irish chain, my first "real" quilt, using this tutorial. I never thought *I* could do it, but Jenny's enthusiasm and "you can do it" attitude made me realize that I could! Thank you, Jenny!

Who would have thought that this Irish chain would be so easy? Jenny Doan has made my life long dream of being able to make a quilt a reality! I've been a seamstress for over 30 years and gave up the idea of quilting after one attempt many years ago. I believed that my lack of mathematics skills was the cause of my inadequacy. NO! I just never had the right instructions AND the right INSTRUCTOR with the PASSION that Jenny has to make the "mystery" of quilting open and available to ANYONE that wants to learn!
I can't thank you enough, Jenny and can't wait to send you pictures of my first quilt I'm making for my grandson who is due to arrive next month!

Thank you Jenny for this tutorial. It is my favorite for a few reasons. The first one is because about a year ago I went and bought about six different printed fabrics that matched colors in my family room. They matched, but did not have that "blend/contrast" affect (because i'm I newbie and didn't know), so this quilt is elegant, yet scrappy, so now I can finally make me a couch quilt. The second reason this is my favorite is because I've heard you mention "seams nesting" and didn't really know what you meant, so I couldn't make sure I was improving on my quilting. But in this video I finally realized it. I made my first block and OMG....The points/seams/squares whatever you call it was perfect! My block is so pretty! I can't stop looking at my ONE block!!! lol Can't wait to do more, but I have to go to bed. My housework will never get done now!

Just to give you an idea of the amount of fabric this is, I bought 2 printed jelly rolls and 2 white jelly rolls and 2 yards of white fabric. I prepared the strip sets and squares as instructed. From these I constructed a quilt top that is 12 squares wide and 13 rows long using white and colored squares. That is a top about 72×78 inches. I am using 25 colored squares more than that to make a baby quilt when I get more white fabric. I still have 90 colored squares left over. That would make another quilt using about 180 total squares. I love the way they chain. Very pretty.

While i like Jennys tutorials. I wish they gave her correct instructions. For twin. You get a white or background color same as yardage color. Jelly & 1 print jelly roll. You actually need 2.25 yds. Of background. That will produce 72 6.5” squares. Not 1 yd as mentioned. I would not sew all the strips. Use left overs later
Some one mentioned left over strips. If you look there is a 2” border made from left over 2.5 strips. (2.5 by 2.5, 6.5 by 2.5, then a 2.5 by 2.5. Repeat) you can figure the length you need. Then add binding. I wish they would have put the correction on for people. Its a lovely quilt.
