      People keep buying it, so it's on the consumers. They'll never develop GTA6 because it won't be backwards compatible. GTA6 will have a release date when PS6 has a release date.. so, 2029? New Switch owners keep buying Mariokart 8 which was released in 2014 on the Wii U so Nintendo has made no moves on 9.

      @@robertfrost8264 That's been a problem for a lot of Nintendo's games. Rather than make new games, Nintendo just ported a bunch of Wii U stuff. I had a Wii U, so for the first half of my Switch's life, it collected dust because I wasn't buying $60 ports of games I already spent $60 on. And now for the second half of my Switch's life, it's collecting dust because it's too weak to properly run any of the games, so I keep not buying the games because I'm not willing to put up with the wildly variable framerates. Maybe Nintendo will port all of these games to their next console and I can finally play them.
      Switch has easily been Nintendo's most disappointing platform for me.

    The "hot coffee" scandal continues to be one of the most public displays of how people simply do not understand videogames. Just because some fragments of something were left on the disc, doesn't make it part of the game.
    It was completely inaccessible without _custom software made by fans_ to decompile the game's files and then _edit them_ to customize and piece the content back together and make it playable. *That is not the original game anymore.*
    The fact that the rating was changed from M to AO (especially on the console versions where the mod couldn't even be used) was unfathomably ridiculous.

      @poweroffriendship2.0 Před 2 lety +53

      In fact, at least Hillary got her taste of her medicine thanks to the "Statue of Happiness" from GTA 4 as a revenge from Rockstar.
      People keep saying that "politics should stay out of video games". While I can understand the statement, they missed the point. GTA has some political elements to make the game feels like a satire to our reality. Take a look at Jock Cranley vs. Sue Marie election campaign as a prime example of that.

    • @DavidRomigJr
      @DavidRomigJr Před 2 lety +23

      Yeah, I work on development teams. When close to release, there’s typically a freeze on assets. Adding or removing things can destabilize executables so you don’t last moment unless you are fixing bugs, and if you do make a large change you do another full round of testing. Game delays can be expensive with contracts and player expectations.
      The Hot Coffee story is essentially if you change a game to have a sex game in it, then it will have a sex game in it. And they changed the rating over that misplaced outrage. If you remove the censor filter in The Sims, then the sims are uncensored nude when unclothed. It’s silly.
      And the kicker, the sex game didn’t make it AO, the nudes didn’t make in AO, them combined did that. Rockstar was never going to do both for that reason so it was never in danger of being AO. They dropped the mini game presumably because the it wasn’t that good. If they left it in, though, there may not have been a controversy in the first place. Food for thought.

After deciding not to includ the Hot Coffee sequence in the final game, it would have been too costly/time consuming to actually remove the code from the game. The easy fix was to add a redirect at the top of that code. So whenever the game would goto that code, the redirect would catch the call and... redirect it to another part of the game. Easy peasy and SOP. But then some hacker got ahold of the game and got bored and all hell broke loose.

Those uptight Karens are so wrong about violent games. If anything, these games can be an outlet for your frustration. I don't think it normalizes violence, because anyone with a brain knows it's a video game. You can't do everything you do in games in real life. I think the biggest problems with Rockstar, more specifically, modern Rockstar, is the fact they're so lazy now. Nearly all of original team behind that company has left and it shows. GTA V is such a shoddy product now, it's held together with duct tape and glue. There's was loading issue in the game since its release and it took a random modder to fix this massive issue Rockstar overlooked for years, it was a simple fix he released for free and Rockstar eventually noticed and paid him for his fix. You also have the massive joke that is GTA V enhanced which everyone ripped to shreds since there was literally no point in buying the game, there were no new features. Rockstar has recently dropped the "enhanced" name from the game and are aware people are less than pleased with them. As for GTA Online...oh boy, if you like modders/cheaters it's the place to be.

      Stupidly long load times of several minutes for over 5 years on pc? One person finds out what is wrong, posts about it in detail and releases it to make the game better. Was like 5-10 minutes for some people. And is just one of the many issues the game has let alone pc issues like the menus problem.
      There are videos by vadim m that show how bad R* has handled the "remasters" of the games which really were just poorly made probably rushed mobile ports of the game. The problems with it were so bad on xbox 360 version, that they never announced the ps3 version. Those versions really exist because of the music licenses running out and unfortunately replaced the existing 360/ps3 versions.

    Hot Coffee has always been a huge load of hand-wringing and pearl-clutching over nothing. That content is not accessible through playing the game, so it was essentially not IN the game. To access it, you need to: 1) know about it, 2) know where to download an unauthorized mod for it, and then 3) modify your game. I don't believe for a second that there is a single human on earth with the level of technological sophistication needed to do all that but who was also incapable of just downloading adult material from the internet in the first place. So who is being protected, and from what? It was just politicians and business people exploiting the public's ignorance for political capital and financial gain.

    A key fact about the transformation of Race 'n' Chase into Grand Theft Auto that you missed is that the police AI was originally far too aggressive, so play-testers thought it would be fun to try to outrun the cops; that is what inspired the transformation.

    I loved all of the GTA's, but hated 5. I don't know why they've been sitting on GTA5 for 8 years, but I haven't touched GTA in a long time now...

    The only reason why they're hated now is because they haven't made a new gta in almost 9 years and instead have re-released gtaV on three console generations.
    People are just tired of gtaV and gta online and *desperately* want something new.

    I have been absolutely devouring your content since finding the channel. It's fascinating stuff. Two things come to mind when watching. First, I would love to hear of any time a leveraged buyout was a good idea, and I would also love to see a video about Steam.

    "Without admitting or denying any wrongdoing" is how pretty much all fines from the SEC happen. Companies can just fill themselves up with hundreds of these kinds of fines.

    Good job on putting this together. I guess when there's too many hands in the cookie jar, the end-product becomes exactly what all those hands want it to be, and not necessarily what the customer wants it to be. I play their old games still though.x)
