- Project CARS is one of my top three racing game series alongside Forza and Gran Turismo. Release of third title in the series still on current generation of consoles made more than happy. So here's my wrap up of entire Project CARS series Graphics Evolution.
Let's look closely on dynamic weather condition,

All games were captured on PS4 Pro on 4K Display. PC2 ns PC3 were captured in Favour Resolution Display Mode. Please note the part with Chase Camera were adjusted - I mean the speed of the footage was adjusted to match all three so you can have a visualition of entire track simultaniously. The part with onboard camera was not synchronized to perform sound comparison.
Sound comparison starts in 4:36 min.
For purpose of this comparison I used the same car - Chevrolet Corvette C7.R; same race track - Bannochbrae; closest possible weather coditions:
-Spring
- Dawn(PC3); 5 a.m. (PC 1 &2)
-Dynamic Weather (Start - Clear/Finish-Thunderstorm)
-15 opponents
-Player Starting position - Last

I think they simply ported Project CARS GO from mobile to PC and Console and called it Project CARS 3 instead. Hence Project CARS GO was never to be heard of again after a big twitter announcement from Nathan Bell. 🤔

I installed PC3 yesterday, i thought it was in MID settings at fist time, then i checked and it was in high. I changed it to ultra and i didnt realize any change, i think graphics in this games are worse than in PC1. Incredible.
I regret buying it. I will play it once it hits ps5. Hopefully it’s better by then. Graphics are to painfully to play
yeah it was just shit... i only got it so i can drive c8... after new forza or other game come out.. i would delete it and never install it again...

PC1 is still the best game between all of them 3. More, it is the only sim ... I still playing it today.

Wow, you're not wrong. Look at the aliasing from 3:17 to 3:20 also. Compare PC3 and PC2 around the back of the car, around the rear lights, the roof and also the rear wing. 3 years development time from the last game folks. Great job SMS!
Yeah, pc3 doesn't have an MSAA anymore. They left supersampling instead which is 3x more heavier. Not sure which AA they've used to this but only supersampling can be seen in options. Not even an smaa or fxaa
@@denso219 If you turn AA off in the menu, it's still blurry as hell, so there is some kind of AA you can't turn off and it ruins the graphics. Well done SMS! A lot of common people realised the problem after speding just 2 minutes with the graphic settings, but they developed it for 3 years and they hadn't even noticed that there is a serious problem with AA. What were they thinking???
@@Nago15 yes Supersampling is off by default. if you edit the GraphicsConfig.xml file and change "AntiAlias" antialias="0" value to " 1 ", it will eliminate the blurriness but it will cause a bad graphical glitches. so what i'm doing right now is i'd enabled VSR in radeon cp then play the game at 1440p in my 1080p monitor. the game looks the way it should be with it.

Almost a decade in the making and still the same-y looking games, and the visual is starting to age now. They definitely needs to update their game engine.
They've been left in the dust by the rest of the industry since 2015, Codemasters may be their saving grace.
@@BitViper Actually Codemasters offered them to migrate their PCARS 3 build from Madness Engine to EGO, but they insisted to keep making on their own engine, which kinda a bummer to miss that opportunity. Still hoping they're actually preparing for next-gen project but I guess it won't be coming very soon.
@@GuyWhoLikesTheSnarkies1435 Definitely a missed opportunity. I don't understand why they insisted to keep using an engine that is DX11, non-PBR, and doesn't even support ambient occlusion. That's just scratching the surface of the technical limitations of the Madness Engine, but those are the biggest issues. Compared to EGO which is ready for next gen games with DX12 support and modern rendering methods. What a shame, hopefully Codemasters puts their foot down on SMS' next project.
@@BitViper I think the answer is quite simple: their boss, 'Mr bald man' (as I like to refer him lol), is an opportunistic hack and the fact that he's certain enough to take the offer to make an F&F game instead of prioritizing the development solely on PCARS 3 tells that.

Well, they was not. Even GRID series have more realistic driving, then any Project Cars game. And GRID don't even pretend, that he is an autosim.
PC2 looks the best. PC3 is like a minimum Setting of PC2 in terms of lightning/reflection and polygons.
PC2 have so much aliasing, look in the cokptit camera

It seems like the headlights don’t work on pcars 3 lol
Logic Fuzion compared to the previous two games . The lighting look very dark in pcars 3 and the headlights barely look visible unless it shines off another car

Mega Suenami yep hardware will be an issue , but the previous games headlights were so good ; that I would’ve rather them use what ever headlights they used before . Cause now it looks really dark . Like the crew 2 at night time . Especially at Nurburgring during night time . I can only imagine how dark that’ll be
on pc you had to assign headlight or you will drive without light... and rain effect is so last gen.. it look like shit...

Do you mean ROSTER of cars? Because not only did not not spell "roster" correctly, but pc3 also has the smallest roster of cares combined between the two games.

@@evolicious the only thing that i will say "thanks" is for the mistake. PC3 has more interesting cars than PC2 and 1. More cars doesn't mean better.
PC3 has the most cars out of all of em as far as I'm aware. It has over 200 cars

Meanwhile, FH4, an unashamed semi-arcade game, looks like it's from the next console generation to a game released after it. Like wtf? Racing games aren't open world, there's no excuse for the utter lack of detail, proper shadows, minimal reflections, abysmal weather effects, and weird-ass blurriness and even the cars look like they're from the Asphalt series. I really didn't want to hate the game because I've been wanting a more casual sim racer with a career mode, but they could have done SO much better than this.
why cant racing games be open world? i honestly love open world games because i can atleast drive my car to other places without the need to be constantly racing

Original project Cars on the series x is astonishing, the most improved game of all the games I've tried even though technically they haven't enhanced it, the upscale 4k, auto HDR and completely solid frame rate completely change this game

@@ROLLINGFANATICSWell you're entitled to prefer a more "aggressive" sound, but it doesn't mean it's more realistic, which is the priority. Forza has those "aggressive" engine sounds, and they sound painfully unrealistic. Also you can tell the guy who recorded the cockpit cam messed the volume levels.

While pCars 2 is definitely a neat-looking game, I still prefer the visuals of the 1st one, mostly because of how crisp & high on image quality PC1 holds up to this date. Proper AA (with lots of options to choose from, especially loving that DS4X AA which is, albeit quite heavy, produces an impressively clean image) and much better streamed objects' LODs & textures make this game a clear winner for me (LODs popping isn't that noticeable there).
You see, PC2 looks a bit 'shaky' in motion - I guess that's to do with its weaker AA algorithms (e.g. supersampling doesn't do sh*t in PC2, at least it doesn't eliminate jaggies like proper SSAA definitely should), plus LODs streaming issues are much more apparent there, especially on tree leaves, and in motion it creates quite a messy presentation. PC1 manages these perfectly well, and it just looks gorgeous in motion.
Project SHIfT3 is just... I dunno. I despise it for how much it is visually butchered compared to prev. games. Madness engine doesn't deserve that treatment.

I play PC1 hooked up to my receiver and buttkicker gamer2. Boy that downshift and throttle pedal feathering is so good. Its so raw and realistic. Its as good as Assetto Corsa. Maybe Better.

no high... just shit... you had to set it in 4k otherwise in normal 1080p there are shit... last gen as fuck...

For me PCars2 looks the best and didn't have frame drops like 3, the sound definitely is better(in my opinion) on the first one and in terms of resolution I think 2 and 3 exchange blows here and there, but on the assets, even though the PCars3 has more of it, looks better on PCars2 🧐

First time coming back to PC1 after playing PC2 I thought it looked better
For me this first game in this series is the best in comparison on another race game, GRID, the first It's the best, the second one has little upgrades and the third more of same but with better graphics...

Super porównanie jak zawsze. Niestety wydaje mi się że 2 wygląda lepiej od 3. 3 jakaś taka niewyrażna pozatym deszcz na ekranie i na szybie w aucie wg mnie najlepiej wygląda w 1 części. Tak więc nie zawsze nowsze jest lepsze :) To tak ode mnie. Pozdro.
When I first brought project cars 3 the default audio settings was TV...the engine sounds were kind of quiet...then I switched it to HI-FI & there was a massive difference in the sound

last gen as fuck... it like you turn on raytracing... but it was broken.. feel like rain from 2000's ....
I know PC3 is a lot of fun but... It's first time graphics ruined my hype. I watched few compare videos. Night and rain look worse than these in PC2, but mostly games are really similiar. I feel like they decided to make a degression of graphics only to add even more details for cars, and mostly these details are scratches of paint after accidents and contacts... Soon cars will look perfect, but we will be driving on 8bit tracks.
PC1 looked the best. PC2 had faded colors and anti-aliasing was worse. PC3 is already a total drama to that arcade controls instead of better they release worse and worse parts.

Rain also looked best in the first part. The sound of some cars has also deteriorated, just listen to the BMW 2002 Turbo in the first part roars like the devil in the next parts, which is already very muffled.
Sorry for being s couple years late, but they aren't going for ear-shattering, low quality cat sounds. They're going moreso for accuracy rather than overall volume. NM2255 has an amazing comparison of cars in game being compared to their real life counterparts.

In 2 the Cars had just too high poly count in comparison to the environment. So for outside Camera either 1 or 3. Of course PC3 looks best, but I'd take PC2 over both other games every day....
PC3 definitely does NOT looks best. Even PC1 often looks better which is ridiculous. It's been a while that I've seen such horrific anti-aliasing implemented in a game.

I think you were wrong with the order of the videos, the second must be Project cars 3! It looks much better than the third, the reflections, the feeling of realism! I can not believe it! If this is the evolution that they have wanted to sell us, I will move on from this game and I wait for the games that will really be an evolutionary leap like gran turismo 7 or forza in the next gen. Old DriveClub looks better....disappointment...... :(

Bit of a shame you couldn’t have normalized each clip’s sound file. Bit of a PITA to have to keep adjusting my TV’s volume to be able to compare. This is, admittedly, one of the less arcadey tracks in PC3 so the difference isn’t as jarring as some others given the Shift one over, but the thing that sticks out is how easily you get to the front in PC3. Looks like those rumors about the AI weakness are well founded...
But I wish I were eight years old again and thought that racing a GTE car against a Caterham or a GT4 car or a V8 Supercar was even remotely realistic!

No, you just did not use the settings in sound and i play X bob one x. This is the game Pcars 1 and 2 should have be and it looks great! I played both one and 2 also and liked them. BUT - The is the best car sim on the market - about driving on the track! The cars movement on the road, sideward, transition between electronics and no helpers, road contact and the way the cars react and they act very different from car to car - but not impossible which Pcars 1 and 2 often did except for the GT cars. Pcars2 felt like a racing sim GAME - but not as real cars on the track. Pcars 3 does excactly that! A lot of cars and tracks as usual, weather, times, seasons - the things there need to be - and not a lot of sliders hell like in Pcars 2 where you probably never got the optimal out of the cars. Pcars 3 is fun, engaging realistic racing in all categories, short loading times, super AI and feeling of racing, like it really is! Not on a PC or console where gamers the last years have been tought to drive with that often weird feeling that has nothing to do with real car physics on the track. This is the best car game available - and i have tried them all. Lot of adrenaline entertainment. BUT gamers are in their isolated world far from the real world ironicly enough very conservative:) As soon as something new - or real - turns up and not looking/feeling the same as before, the criticue thunders from all the sofa's and gamerchairs around:) Try this better game out and in a few months you will play nothing else, when its car games. I am not paid or hired - but i know how a real car feels. No gas or tire use, no pitstops. All these things were only there to give an impression of realism, that was not really there. Now the driving is amazing, the graphics catching and the feel of speed great - 60 FPS. I play X box one x. This is by far not NFS 3:) Take care there, get over it - and be happy again

they've aimed project cars 3 at console gamers and it's sad really! all they had to do was fix the problems it had now it's just a gimmick console arcade game instead of a proper sim.
Many people on consoles like sims too. There's a very decent multilayer community playing PC2.

First of all, it's arguably arcade not simcade. Secondly, it doesn't look great, many people have complained about it and it just doesn't feel right.

if you are not a hard core sim racer pc3 is what you want guys. i have played all three and i enjoyed the pc3 the most. if you like grid series you will like this game too.
