    The simpler solution (since screwing the chair to a floor makes it immobile and trashes your floor) is to use a square metal plate as a base (no need to look like a shadow) and conceal the base plate with a small area rug. Two holes in the throw rug with pins protruding to fit into the two chair legs. Now you have a perfect illusion and it can be moved. You're welcome.

    If I were doing the trick, I'd go with a fake tilted room, inspired by the "fail" chair. Maybe 20 degrees of tilt, and the weight of my butt just goes straight down onto the legs. Only problem ... I live in Louisiana, which is flat as a pancake. Hard to find a convenient slanted place to use.
    With the tilted room trick, there's no need for beefy chair legs. It could be an off-the-shelf chair with spindly legs, with the rear legs sawed off.

    • @rufanov
      @rufanov Před 3 lety +1

      Legs of chair must just have pretty big contact area with floor and be just little bit weightier than top part of chair to stay stable on floor - chair from Zach King video have all this. Difference in weight can be easy archived just by making whole chair empty inside and filling it's legs with something like concrete. Basically it's same idea as how foundation of buildings work. if chair can stay stable on floor by itself on two, you can just balance on forward part while sitting. I think, this is how really chair on video was made, not with some "video editing magic"

      @Pheatan Před 4 lety

      @@6sicSIX forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't half of the portmanteau of tensegrity tension?
      TL;DR: flexibility is bad for tensegrity.
      Essentially what I mean is that if you look at John's table. Or a a lot of other tensegrity builds it works so that you have a central point that pulls downwards but due to the cable it has to rotate its axis to do so. Then it also has outer cables that get pulled upwards when the upper piece tries to rotate its axis.
      If you tried to make something like this with any noticeable amount of flexibility you lose tension in one direction i.e if the central point can flex downwards then the outer points lose their tension allowing the piece to rotate and fall. But if you allow the outer cables to flex then you again have the same problem as adding any reasonable amount of weight would extend the outer cables, once again allowing the piece to fall.
      I just want to say its currently 12:40 am and I'm not the most advanced tensegrity builder, having only made a few sculptures so I may be entirely wrong, or oblivious to an obvious fix.

    As a starving, disabled carpenter, as much I love your show it kills me to see you scrap all of those live edges (and didn't have to lmao!) Then to bury that beautiful chair frame! I make myself go to Woodcraft about an hour before they close so I don't over spend and stick to the drop bins! Make me a fair offer and I'll gladly figure out a way to take your drops off your hands!! I see myself building one of your chairs using Chemtec epoxy for the back legs. I figured you were going to pour them!!

    @John Malecki Well done John. I liked this. As an engineer, woodworker, and former magician who built my own props, I would like to share a fun idea with you. If you wanted to stage this and fool people quickly. Do it in a room that you can lay down plywood in. Get a some 1/2" tongue and groove wood flooring. Pre-assemble a good number of planks that span the area your chair will cover, and glue and clamp them together. Then nail them to a cutout plywood underlayment, cut to fit the outline of the planks. When dry, bolt your chair to the planks from the underside. If you use thick plywood you can probably set the head flush with the bottom. Pre-assemble other planks on other plywood in large sections, but not so large that you can't carry them into the room. Cut their outlines to fit in with the first shape that has the chair, cutting off the tongues anywhere they meet. Then just carry in the big sections into a room and lay them down like a big jigsaw puzzle, with the special chair one in the middle. If you use a large bolt, the chair and its support could hold any sized guy. You could pull this as a prank on a friend. Convince them to let you lay a wood floor with some "leftover wood from a previous job". Then go in and lay down the planks, kick back and wait a while, making hammering noises periodically. Then call them in while sitting in the chair. After you get up, they will undoubtedly want to see the chair. It will be an even bigger surprise when they realize it won't move! I think this would make a great video!

    Simple. The front legs are made out of neutronium. That keeps the center of balance over the mass. Being as a teaspoon of neutronium weighs about 10 tons. Side note: the chair has its own gravity field too.
