I was thinking of changing my career path since i started doing a helpers job/ pre apprentice to be a plumber and i was never interested i just got it cause a family member gave me the opportunity but ive always been into CyberSecurity or anything related to IT or Graphic design
built my first PC a few months ago and just wanted to know how to manipulate it to the fullest extent, then stumbled upon the word of IT and cybersecurity and fell in awe. Lowkey wanna pick this up as sometype of minor or second hustle as i’m already applying to Rad Tech school 🤔
I like it because you can make security strategies and sometimes you can legaly break into systems and it's funny to see how some people belive the most stupid emails that ever exist I don't do security as a job I do a study on the basic level of cyber security it's easy I maybe want to studie further on a higher niveau.
Are you in MD? I grew up there. Ok, I’m 55, transitioning from being a movie trailer editor bc I love a challenge and sleuthing but also Hwood is dying. I’m excited but I have NO idea what job would be a great jumping off point? SOC Analyst? What are your thoughts?
Honestly I’m not sure where my interest came from. I think it started with the matrix movie and I thought that was cool seeing binary code at one point or another in the movie was cool. At first I thought about game design but I was never too set on it. After a while I tried looking things up on my computer on how to navigate the command prompt and do different things with the computer in the early days of CZcams. I guess since then it sort of just always stuck. I always had an affinity for troubleshooting electronics in general anyway so now I’m going to start studying for the compitia a+ very. Wish me luck.

Well, now that my dreams of intense and dramatic typing against the clock have been dashed...I am interested in solving problems and identifying threats to valuable information
Hello Sandra, i work in healthcare but I am very interested in this field. What are some trusted sources where I can get more info. Also do I need a degree for this or a certificate?
I was a cop and recently trying to career change. Naturally cyber security was my first choice. Yes it may change but i still have a long way to get there and it may change but as of now its cyber security
I actually left my cybersecurity role this past summer for a year sabbatical working on more learning resources on this channel :) though for relevant dashboards, there’re too many to review lol. We probs had 10+ we could look at for different information on different things, this is especially common for newer/smaller security teams
@@WithSandra have you signed a confidentially agreement regarding those dashboards because I would be interested in having a look at some and have some cyber security jobs saved waiting for practice applications and bank cards.
Ive had coworkers from both paths! I have my BS in IST plus my Sec+, but know bootcamp grads who've gotten entry level roles, so it's really up to you what path makes the most sense. Goodluck!!
In terms of alerts and alarms, do you get notified even when you're not "on the clock". I know it's a late comment, but I would appreciate it a lot if you responded 👍
Hi Branden! :) I do, we get alerts around the clock from our teams since some work in EMEA/APAC regions, holidays are also busy since international teams may not celebrate the same holidays as us. However, because my team really prioritizes work life balance, we arent expected to respond on our days off, not ever team is like this and I’d directly ask what this experience is like during your interview phase to get their real input, I know similar teams in other companies would expect you to do weekly rotations of on call hours to take on those alerts. Though we also have a great SRE team that handles many alerts as well, hope this helps!
i am 62 and only starting learning software development.. I am interested in cybersecurity
You need to live in the real world, dude. No 62 year old is starting a software development career, let alone cyber security.
Hello fellow Newfie! Fuck what the other guy said, you only have 1 life so do what you want. You got this!
