"Music for Life," A night out with friends featured an all-star benefit concert dedicated to the memory of Dick Marx on Nov. 7, 1998 at Vic Theatre. Featured performances by Marx, Michael Bolton, Luther Vandross, Kenny G., Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon and Fee Waybill of the Tubes. Proceeds from the concert went to fund scholarships at DePaul’s School of Music.

Luther love this version. Barbra Streisand has been my favorite email singer since I was in the 7th grade 12 yrs old. But this version is beautiful. I’ve been married 44 yrs and my hubby has been hearing her album A Star Is Born everyday. All our friends know and it is so funny. Our cats even pipe in with meows!
I sang this in 79 and 80’s at friends weddings and family’s weddings!

He was already struggling to belt out the high notes at this concert. One could see that he was breathing heavily and sweating profusely...all the signs of the advance state of his diabetis. The disease had taken a tool on his health and he was way above obesity. His liver, kidney, lungs and eventually his heart succumbed to the dreaded disease in a couple of years time after this concert. We lost a truly legendary singer. There will never be another Luther Vandross. RIP.
Actually, he later lost weight and was able to function above par.
Obesity is such a brutal killer. It limits people's quality of life for decades. I can understand obese people complain about fat shaming, but the other side of this discussion is that obesity gets normalised, simply because so many people are overweight. The discussion around obesity should go in a different direction. It's not good when people like Lizzo normalize and celebrate their bodies. Obesity is not good, it's not something that should be embraced.
