    Caruso wore his Kelly suit very well. Unfortunate that he allowed some people to whisper in his ear that he could be a movie star. But his exit from the show allowed Franz to become the linchpin of the series and more focus to bear on the ensemble cast.

    Can you imagine if this scene ended with Kelly giving the judge a right hook with his fist?

  • @MoneyMakingMitchNY
    @MoneyMakingMitchNY Před 3 lety +40

    Another fine scene for Kelly. In hindsight much hasn't changed since 93 in terms of bad guys getting away with stuff and the average person having to suffer because of it. Its a shame what happen to the father happened, but it goes to show you that the laws in America do need to be reexamine and harsher punishment needs to be handed down. And kelly was right about that judge " he isn't worth it". Many who swear to uphold the law and government aren't. Blue wasn't a thinking man show like law and order or homicide... but damn if it didn't make you feel for people and the never ending search for humanity and justice.

    • @asc_missions3080
      @asc_missions3080 Před 2 lety +2

      Take a real look around. Things have changed a lot. Today, fewer than 1 in 100 public officials from dogcatcher up who keep their oath of office, maybe 1 in 10 US senators have actually read the constitution, and there are 187 admitted enemies of the state in the US congress. And that entire lot has gone far past ignoring the problem, to encouraging and in fact facilitating it.

    • @1AstralKing
      @1AstralKing Před rokem +2

      Hard disagree on the “thinking man’s show” comment. L&O was “story” driven, with generic plots that were often meant to appear more clever than they were. When characters overcame the writing, they were shuffled around or dropped. Blue showed you the nuance of a criminal investigation and was driven by characters and how they experienced the events unfolding around them and how they grew from each event. It also shows the reality of NYC as, for the most part, a shithole populated by cockroaches rather than a highly polished utopia with a few bad apples [most of whom were also upper-middle class criminal masterminds].

    It's a pity that there isn't anyone around in "authority" like John Kelly, in the way he's talking to Mister Daniels. If there is, then it's a shame we never hear about it, but only the violent ways that situations like this end.

    • @joed9491

      There are plenty but you don't hear about it because it doesn't sell. That's not what the media wants to increase viewership or sell their papers. It's like police pursuits, do you ever see the stories on them of the lives saved because the police did pursue or the lives lost because they didn't? You only see the stories of the lives lost when they did. The media is one of the most corrupt institutions in this country because they report on stories in a manner THEY want you to see it IF they want you to see it at all.

    After this first season, David Caruso got to feeling too big for his britches and left NYPD BLUE for an unsuccessful movie career. Then he came back to television with the short-lived MICHAEL HAYES series, and then hit it out of the ballpark with CSI: MIAMI with his role of Lieutenant Horatio Caine of the Miami-Dade Police Department's Crime Scene Investigation unit. But here he had been off to a good start with his role of police detective John Kelly. He should have stayed put. But then we'd never had the pleasure of seeing him in CSI: MIAMI. And that's the way it is.

    • @darinsingleton3553
      @darinsingleton3553 Před 2 lety

      Just FYI: After the initial stellar success of NYPD Blue, in large part due to Caruso, he went to a much bigger agency.
      This huge agency had, arguably, one of the hottest stars around, at that time, and was going to make almost no money off of him;
      because all the money from Caruso's hit TV show was going directly to his former agent, who had negotiated the original deal.
      That's why they pushed him to do other projects. A number of which conflicted with the NYPD Blue's shooting schedule.
      A game of Chicken ensued. Bochco & Milch called Caruso's agent's bluff, and they wrote him outta the show. Just FYI.

  • @thomastarwater2989

    David Caruso acted like he was too big for his britches, and figured he could ace it as a movie star. He wound up with a few flop films, and after starring in the short-lived series MICHAEL HAYES Caruso showed up with hat in hand and joined the cast of CSI: MIAMI as Lieutenant Horatio Caine in 2002 and stayed all the way to the last episode in 2012. He got his second chance and made the most of it.

Pretty sure Mr. Daniels got someone to say "Thank You Detective" later on after he calmed down. That's how I'm going to leave this Courtroom feeling today. 14 months for killing an 8 year old boy?
